Might as well start tearing out the carpet and installing the real race seats, hans device and fire system.

It's either PT or a Race car better decide now.;)

You left out Lat-G car

So, how much power is your race car going to have?

Screw it, before you even respond I'm just going to go ahead and tell you that you should have built an LS. :unibrow:

Matt

How about a new word here.... RaceFighter.

I am really going for a Hobaugh or Maier type build with less quality obviously and less modern but track purpose with occasional street car ability. I don't want full race car and would do many different things if that was the goal.
I have some other ideas for the aeshetics that will help separate it from this damn sea of Camaros.

I have ditched the dome piston high compression idea. That lasted about 10 minutes. :willy:

doesn't sound like a 1996 Chevy Beretta with a straight pipe.

That's hilarious and pretty much spot on. One big reason I've shied away. The sound just ain't right.

I vote for the cereal bowls. Your guy can probably make them work.

Todd got it half right BB:rofl:

Nope. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Many cars blur the line or tip more to one side without flipping. That will remain the goal here. I like the continuing challenge to negotiate that line as only I can view it. We are all different with that and one thing I enjoy immensely about this site and watching people make their decisions. Race cars are too predictable and almost boring in comparison (please no one take that the wrong way).

Cereal bowls it is.

I figure that at refreshening time (maybe 2-3 years) I can then decide to add domes if I feel like it at that time.

You left out Lat-G car

well done Jer. :lateral:

Flares? Old school SCCA look to match the mouse?

I was thinking about doing a rendering to put my new set of ideas on the canvas, but I found a car I want to emulate so I don't need to spend the money on the rendering I figure.

I want to make the 68 Camaro version of this. Paint my white stripes matte black (and get rid of the little Mustang influence I inherited when I bought this car :D) and rivet on the flares for a racy/industrial look. No flares molded into the body for me. I prefer the color contrast and lower cost. :unibrow:

I was thinking about doing a rendering to put my new set of ideas on the canvas, but I found a car I want to emulate so I don't need to spend the money on the rendering I figure.

I want to make the 68 Camaro version of this. Paint my white stripes matte black (and get rid of the little Mustang influence I inherited when I bought this car :D) and rivet on the flares for a racy/industrial look. No flares molded into the body for me. I prefer the color contrast and lower cost. :unibrow:

That De Tomaso is pure awesomeness. I think you're goal is doable considering you're trying to emulate a car with some heavy Ford associations.

Yep that mongoose would have been originally 289 Ford powered. Either that or the racing Pantera is the look you are going for you closet Ford lover.:D

Hahaha, so naive you are. Not all good deals just appear. Truly talented shoppers are successful based on sheer persistence, which is great, as long as you aren't being dragged around Hong Kong for the better part of three days looking for an elusive deal on a digital camera. I can't say those are three days of my life I want to get back. Those days grow fonder as the years go by. However, I do wish that my relatives had actually bought a camera at the end of those three days :faint:

I'm sure you'll have some funny stories to share though

Ah come on Dave. You gotta stop in HK at least once in your life. I had no idea what I was doing when I went there and it was still fun. If you could find the one corner of Kowloon that sells all the commercial cookware and supplies, I'm sure you be in heaven. Besides, I know your fiance would fair better than all the Japanese, and Ron, especially if Ron's parts buying and selling habits are any indication of his wheeling and dealing skills. Man what a day. Got moved into our new house, and that's significant for 2 main reason here.... (1) I am closer to getting back to planning and upgrading the Camaro... :unibrow: ... and (2) Even though this has always been part of many of ya'all's lives, I now have a garage of my own to bring said Camaro when it's back on the road. It's nothing special... but it's mine!

The 2nd cool thing that happened today was I got a call from Johnny Hunkins of PHR and was invited to go to Columbus and be in the Muscle Car of the Year competition after the Goodguys event. He called because a couple heavy hitter Camaros have backed out recently. I was obviously appreciative but had to decline for many reasons, not the least of which is my car current has no chassis or suspension.... of course when I called to tell Rich this he said let's borrow a motor and get this sucker back together and go! Man I love ya brother... :woot:

Stopped by Dave's new house today. Previous owner spared no expense on keeping this house meticulously maintained. Yes, its has a dated style due to it being an older home, but the layout is great and has awesome potential.

The downstairs room is awesome. Fireplace, plenty of room for a legal size pool table, couches, and big screen. I told Dave I would enlarge the area where the existing counter and sink are and turn it into the killer bar area.

Great score and congrats Dave!!

Dave,

Congrats on everything you have going on..

I lived 12 years in Lafayette. you will love Orinda and the surrounding area.

I just re-read this thread. You guys are too funny and sound like great people.

I hope to hook up with you guys soon at an event.. I will do more spinning than winning, but just being there will be a blast.

Again congrats to you and your Wife. On the house, and the upcoming Marraige.

Mike

Slight change of plans and here comes Badmotorfinger V2.2 (hat tip to Chad Ryker for getting me to liking that moniker as he did V3.0 on his latest version).

Current motor in progress is scrapped (and for sale) and its place will go this thing:

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff245/flash68/photo9-2.jpg

The key numbers are:

430 cubes
736 hp @ 6800 rpm
609 ft lbs @ 6000 rpm
92 octane
10.8:1 compression
185 lbs spring pressure for durability

The heart of this and why I had to have it was the 2006 era Joe Gibbs Racing SB2.2 heads.

This is the exact motor that got me interested in the SB2 stuff back 7-8 months ago when it was first listed.... sale fell through and it was relisted recently so I snatched it up. Most of the parts are upgrades over what I was putting in my 386 anyway. Will have it shipped to Watson Racing and have them check it over and dyno it here on 91 octane. Can't wait.

Guess it's time to start working on getting the chassis under this car.

Anyone need some good SBC short block and top end parts? :unibrow:

Yes, finally, I hear ya there. I almost started a brand new stinkin thread.

I told him to keep the plate and crank trigger ignition he had on there. I actually wanted this thing because it was built for the street, and since recently moving to the suburbs where nice roads, a garage, and a driveway exist, I really want to have a car I can drive occasionally on the street. So while it isn't a stock LS3, it is certainly drivable to me.
