I was wondering the same thing, cheeseball? :D

After seeing that red Camaro break the nasa track record with less horsepower and car, I have one thought for you, driving school. Maybe two, life insurance.

All the NASCAR parts in The Carolina's probably won't get this thing to pass the lowly 252HP STOCK Toyota motored Lotus...

Yes. I bought some fuel filter clamps from a marine supply store last week. :trophy-1302:

That driver would lower every single person's lap times around here by 5-10 seconds. Sure, they've tuned the hell out of that car, but it's pretty simple.

Probably 15 seconds for you. :mock:

I am actually adding some life insurance right now. Thanks for being concerned for my well being. :D

I just ventured back a bit in this thread, and am now ga-ga for the craziness of this car. I took the liberty of posting some evidence of why I love CP cars (autocross, for those who don't do that). Check the exhaust locations...

Flash68
05-18-2014, 10:15 AM
You got it. I have looked at a lot of CP cars for inspiration, the Gulf Camaro being one from the start. If you don't like that thing, then call a doc and see if you still have a pulse.

My exhaust was born out of necessity, but at the same time something I always wanted to do.

Mysteriously speaking, there's a possible testing event/track day coming in August at SearsSonomaInfineonNASCAR Point race track. Yeah, that's my new name for the place. You might still get in. There's also a low-key Laguna Seca date in September...

Yep the car is being worked on. Thanks for all the concerns. I will eventually put together an update. Dave's new pedals and steering column have been mounted and all the associated connections to the down bars and dash bar are in place. Working on firewall sheet metal to close up the front.

Cheers

Cool Updates.

I have questions & comments ...
1. Nice big fire bottle. Smart move.
2. What size & thread are your wheel studs?
3. Are the lugs nuts & wheels a 45° or 60° conical seat?
4. Steering column looks to be collapsible ... Correct? What brand ?
5. Love the Braille Battery. Don't see them much here, but we used their super lightweight carbon fiber version in road racing.
6. Nice cage work & brace in the Engine Bay.

Thanks Ron.

Studs & lugs are by MSI (same place Rob got his) and are 1/2-20, 19mm
60* lugs
Column is Woodward collapsible
Don't know why the Braille isn't used more often either. Their 21 lb is a nice bang for the buck.

Well it's funny because I engaged Brett about a year ago to do just the flare project and look where we are now. :)

He is still Plan A to do the flares but I might take the car home dirt track style for a while and then bring it back to him for the flare work later. He really is brilliant with fiberglass, among other things.

Having a hard time getting a good angle on this tie rod relocation but on the surface I am digging how that pick up point has been moved down inline with the lower A and appears to be moved in a bit to align with the lower ball joint. Assuming the rack gets put in the right spot relative to the lower A that should seriously fix the bumpsteer mess I am finding with the stock Vette spindles. Do those arms bolt on inline with the three hub bolts? If so, do they clock to the counterbores in some way to ensure the bolts stay centered on the threads? Not a big deal, just for personal info, as I have been considering making my own bolt on arm using those three bolts and just getting longer fasteners, tho' I would need to bore out the centers so my CVs could fit thru on the rear...

sorry, also, who makes that bolt on piece?

Hey Tim

Dave asked me to put more random stuff on his thread, but since this is car related, I may have to find pictures of kittens.

Jake had the arms milled. He now builds them out of DOM. For the most part they are the same location as the C5 as to retain the same Akerman. They are moved down because the rack is moved down for packaging on that subframe and to keep the bump at zero. They bolt to 2 of the holes on the hub and one on the upright itself.

Blue Mustang Ron (Good Ron) has the same subframe in his AMX, but moved the motor back far enough as to run the rack in the stock Corvette location and is running the uprights as cast from GM. Same concept you are using from your build photos, not sure why you are having bump problems unless the pivot points on your rack are different than on your LCA.

By bolt on piece if you mean the brake spindle duct plates, those are from LG Motorsports.

Payton knows the long arm JRS setup inside and out (for better or worse) and much more than I do. I do have him beat in the kitten department I am certain.

Your car is coming together nicely Tim. Payton and I will load up and meet you in the middle of USA one day. :guns:

... not sure why you are having bump problems unless the pivot points on your rack are different than on your LCA.
Vettes have bad bump much beyond 1" to 1.5" of travel. On a race car you really never get there as it tends to be so stiff so I will likely not have a real issue. It is a notorious problem on lowered Vettes as guys will drop the cars by backing off the ride height screws - nothing gets relocated and essentially the car is now riding around at say 1" of bump as nominal. Now when they hit a bump and have 1" of motion, it is more like 2" of motion on a stock height Vette and the tires steer quite a bit.

It just drives me a little nuts to have bumpsteer in the car even if I will likely never experience it  I moved the pivot point around a lot with adjustable bars I fabbed up as I was measuring the bump (starting with the pivot point exactly in line with the LCA inner pivot) and where it is now I have up to around 1.5" of bump looking pretty good now, but I know I could cut that arm off of the spindle and relo it and essentially get zero bump over 3" of motion. Is what is as they say.
Your car is coming together nicely Tim. Payton and I will load up and meet you in the middle of USA one day. :guns: Sounds like a great idea... of course that means all three of us have to actually finish :D

Mine's working really well. Haven't hooked up the oil cooler yet. Doing that tomorrow. The C&R is running 4-5 degrees lower than the Ron Davis both at idle and at speed. That's in our lovely 110-115 degree weather here in AZ.

And no leaks yet. Unlike the RD. :whistling:

Those are good data points. Especially in that weather!

Are you guys using a dealer for the C&R piece, or ordering directly from them?

I went direct via Paul Hammond. Very helpful and I had a lot of dialogue with him before ordering.

So I'm trying to get my boy Doug over here to Lat-G but he has this killer Winston Cup framed Chevelle he just got moving under its own power for the first time. These maiden voyage videos are always cool and this car is just killer in my book. :thumbsup:I suspect he is aware of this car, but in case he is not, this is a pretty cool car that my friend in CA that raced circle track let me know about probably 10 yrs ago now and obviously relevant to that car. A simple search of Mike Face Chevelle will bring up images.

I don't know if he knows it (I would also assume so) but I know of it well. I also know it sold for a song not too long ago. I should have bought it. BEAST.

Ha look how far we've come Chad since we met up with our "simple" SBC leaf spring Camaros years back.. :D

I did fly down to Fab53 last Saturday for about 6 hours to make some design decisions and work with Brett on some things. He is further along already and I know he is chugging on my car (in between dirt bike hot laps of course).

Some recent pics.... these were version 1 of the flares.. they already look different than these pics. :)

I've offered a very fair $4k for this project... which is really just a lot of cut up parts and cardboard boxes full of "stuff".... As I'm sure "The Dave" will have similar feelings all of us Dads have, i.e., the car isn't really very important. My kids are grown and on their own and I have plasma cutter that gets little use. I'd gladly post the video burning it down. Since Todd sold his black pig the race will never be settled anyway. LOL

Well that's probably not going to buff out.....

We might as well plug up Dave's thread with nonsense - he's sleep deprived and won't notice... and the car certainly isn't being updated - which IMHO gives us full rights to ham it up. Kinda like being in the empty ballroom before the dance... and finding all the musical instruments just sitting there not being used.

I spent 20 years being "Mister Mom"....

Take the kids to the store -- all the Mommy's are talking to their little kids in the shopping cart that are grabbing crap off the shelves when she's not looking - and the proper Mommy response is "Now little Charlotte... please don't... you know Mommy doesn't like you to do that". My response to my kids -- "hey! You touch that crap again I'll break your arm off"!

I once helped Adrienne and her girlfriend with their 4th grade math homework. They both got F's. I hate the "new math". It's so unnecessary! All you ever use is addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. Tell me one time you ever used "new math" to do anything except to finance a car.

My kids grew up just fine... and prison food isn't as bad as they said it was. They looked like they never missed many meals.

Why is this question continuously skipped over here and in other threads? If we're supposed to be more community oriented then why the secrecy and cliquish behavior? I'm not looking for intimate details, and I doubt anyone else is either. If a falling out occurred, fine. It happens and is no big deal. If Bret has asked for privacy for whatever reason and no longer wishes to be apart of this community, that's fine as well of course. The ignoring of his absence and behavior, ie him deleting all the pictures, and acting as if he didn't exist at all is, quite frankly, annoying as hell. I'm not calling Dave or Doug out on this. This same issue occurred not too long ago with another member who frequented the board quite regularly as well. I don't think this is acceptable on a board that prides itself in being tighter knit or more community oriented.

I totally agree with you! There are shops posting on Lat G that are completely over their heads... have done crappy work - or overcharged for work done, and nobody says a word. Trust me... there have been many a back room dog fight over this issue. Here's the deal... unless the person DIRECTLY involved wants to post up their issues (whether it's the shop saying the customer is a bozo or the other way around) it's not anyone else's business to post up info they may have (second hand usually). The word tends to spread behind the scences... leaving most in the dark.

I'm not intimating there was anything askew here -- just posting a response to your "question" and statement about the community involvement is all because I feel very much the same as you do.

We - as a community - could go on for weeks debating issues. Was it miscommunication - was it over promise and under deliver - is it failure to pay - scope of work creep - creepy work - personality mismatch - customer wants more than was bargained for - change of plans.... and most all of the time there are two or perhaps three sides to every issue. Sometimes it might just come down to you're tired of waiting for your car to get worked on.

Can I assume you've tried contacting him? And this thread has been quite off the tracks for some time, so don't worry about that.

Why is this question continuously skipped over here and in other threads?

I'm not calling Dave or Doug out on this.

Actually you kinda are.

My response is a combination of the following:

1. If you don't have something nice to say, well then.... you all know the rest

2. I am just trying to leave the past in the past and move forward

3. Some information is not for public consumption and some of it I have been asked to keep private as such

Trey, if you or anyone has any specific questions, you could always PM me directly. Not everything is fit for the forum out in the open and that has nothing to do with cliques or secrecy... it has to do with time and place. A build thread is not a tell-all book. These are private business dealings here let's not forget that.

And yes the car is currently at Cortex Racing right now in Sonoma.

And as mentioned yesterday... and in an effort to get back on topic.... car updates coming soon.

I knew you were fond of Mustangs cause of the stripes on your Camaro.
I never thought you'd take it to a Mustang shop, to get a full mustang conversion.

Yeah not sure about the Roadster shop comment. I saw the cars at SEMA, haven't looked at the build thread much, like I would watching it build up to SEMA. I totally understand if its a customer request though.

This is not untrue. That dang rental car got my blood pumpin... of course since I haven't driven my Camaro in almost 3 years, an Ecoboost Mustang could probably get my blood pumpin. :snapout:
