Todd,
Thanks for taking the time to record and post the video, let alone all the great tech information you provide. It's appreciated very much.
And this goes without saying, your car is outstanding in every regard.
Cheers.

Both you guys did great!! I need to be a little more prepared for the next one.
Next time more sleep and a little more wheel time before the event. Oh, and a tire pressure gauge that works!!
Good time bro's, looking forward to the next one

This is a passion of mine and I don't mind helping others not make some of the mistakes I've made building this car. The hard work and persistence has definitely paid off. Thanks for the compliment.

I've got people knocking on my front door, emailing, and calling to make sure the post whore extrodinair is still alive.
I've been busy. For starters, I went on my first Northern Nevada Mule Deer hunt earlier this month. For me, hunting is probably the only hobby that could keep me away from the racetrack or garage. Growing up hunting Whitetails always had me primed to stalk some Muley's. Why it took me 11 years to do it, well, it's Vegas.
Anyway, I shot the buck of my life 20 minutes into opening morning. Poked him at 317 yards on the side of the mountain. After my buddies quit chapping my ass for being suck a lucky ****, I sent him off to the locker and taxedermist.

Back to the fastest black 69 Camaro on the planet. I'm trying to stuff a full size truck in a compact spot. If you read my thread, you know that my oil temps were getting a little toasty at buttonwillow. Since I have to plumb in a larger oil cooler, why not over engineer it right? Honestly, my thought is that it will help keep the engine cooler in these brutal Summers as well. I may install a fan later below the grill opening to aid in high heat conditions. Also, I'm switching over to a full synthetic red line oil. My engine builder, Jason Pettis, said go for it and he wasn't concerned with my oil temps for that short duration. Clearly, they must come down and synthetic oil will take the heat better and keep it's viscosity. I was running a partial synthetic Brad Penn.
As usual, this project got expensive. Between the fittings, hose, oil cooler, t stat, it wasn't bad. Then I decided I needed to upgrade the shop for the project. Nothing to spendy but I picked up a new drill press and belt sander so I can fabricate with more authority. Car's 99.9% done, perfect timing!

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa251/Payback1969/Oilcooler003.jpg
I fabricated the mounting bracket and lets just say when I mounted it, it didn't work out quite like I had hoped. So now, I designed a bracket for my water jet guy and I can still use my bracket, just not how I imagined.

This engine has 3k? and a boat load of races on it. Maybe 15? Anyway, after Buttonwillow I found my oil sender had come loose and was touching my Z bar. It happened while at Buttonwillow since I just had the trans out for the synchro upgrade. Moral of the story, I found a trick extender/or block fitting and I'm taking a few pieces out of the equation. Luckily, it didn't leak or that could've been a bad deal! It's a super tight area to deal with.

Dad's coming to town next month and I hope to take him to the SCCA event on the 13th. I'm hoping to surprise him by doing a dual driver deal. He's got enought experience in his Corvette now that I don't feel to nervous handing him the keys.:_paranoid

Nice shot! Nice deer....
Charley's '66 and my new (to me) Mustang have big oil coolers in front of the radiator... and he actually taped both of ours up in order to get the temps UP... after the first 20 minute sessions then we'd pull the tape.
I can't remember -- does the Camaro have an Accusump? That gives you a lot more oil capacity... which also might help with temps??

Drill press and belt sander!! Thats awesome. I love buying new toys for the shop/garage.
What was that block on the left with the fittings and line tapped into it? Attatchment block? I was thinking oil thermostat but never seen that one before.

Mine is going to be mounted partially in front of the radiator support(With a gap of course) and the rest in front of the radiator. I do have a 3 qt accumulator. Big blocks make big heat. :unibrow: I thought about making an aluminum cover for the oil cooler in winter months. I'm hoping the t stat works as promised.

Yep, it's an Earl's T Stat, one way valve, and 3 way to plumb in my accumulator. Starts to open at 165 and fully open at 180. I found that the Mocal and Canton have approx. 10-15% of the oil going through the cooler at all times. This one is supposed to act more like a coolant t stat. We'll see.. My car will run to cool in the cold months at freeway speeds so cooling the oill all the time was not that appealing. (One of the reasons I went with a heat exchanger for oil cooling originally)My decision to go with a 180 was in hopes that it would help my cooling system in the summer in stop and go traffic. It doesn't get to hot but less heat will certainly help my heat soak with modern gas. These are theories and you know how that goes.

Very nice muley! My 9 year old son has his first elk hunt coming up next week here in northern NM and we spent all weekend at the range for his last practice sessions.
Where did you find the oil sender extension? I could use something like that as I have the same mixture of fittings on my 69 BB.

That will be a blast. An Elk hunt is on my radar. I'm going to start drawing for my Desert Bighorn tag. In Nevada, once you draw a tag, you can't draw for another 10 years even if you don't harvest. Some guys have been trying to draw for a long time. I really want to go back home and hunt some whitetails once of these years. I have an uncle that has some prime land we hunted as a kid. I've missed a handful of monsters there.
I found the extension at Jegs. I can grab the part number?
A part number would be great if you have it handy.
New Mexico is similar, in fact the hunt my son drew is a once in a lifetime hunt. He was finally eligible for hunter safety last year at eight and I put in for every rifle elk hunt I could. As luck would have it he drew a once in a lifetime tag. We are very nervous as we are doing this without a guide and if it doesn't go well he will never have the opportunity again. We are going to try for Oryx next year as they have transplanted them to the missile range in southern NM. There are lots of monster muleys around here but the best areas are on Indian reservation land and the tags are $10,000 plus. And I thought cars were expensive, lol.

First, let me say that she's a dirty pig right now. I've been busting my ASS trying to get it ready for a local SCCA autocross tomorrow. Rumor has it that it's the biggest lot we've ever run in at the speedway. As most of you know, my oil temps were hitting 275 at Buttonwillow. That doesn't make a guy feel to warm and fuzzy. So in typical fashion, I buy the 2nd biggest oil cooler Earls makes.(50 or 52 row) It was like stuffing a square peg in a round hole. :willy: I built a bracket and the oil hoses wouldn't clear the front facia. I built that bracket on the same angle as the grill. Then I designed a bracket that would put the oil cooler square to the radiator. It turned out bitchin. I had to re do my entire oil system. I moved the sender out to the oil t-stat. The oil lines go in around the Z bar area and it's a tight bitch with the 2 1/8" headers coming in to clear the steering shaft. I'm stoked with how it turned out. I'm going to redo the top aluminum cover plate and the hardware will change. I just flat ran out of time. My oil pressure is up 10-15% over the old set up. I don't know if it's from moving the sender or the heat exchanger was that restrictive. Dad and I took it around town today and it's definitely running 10-15 degrees cooler in traffic. I think it's going to work well in the summer and on the road course. I'm a little concerned with the cold weather cruise condition. I may fabricate up a cover for the oil cooler. The t stat is working but I think it's still doing some cooling just being full of oil. I switched over to Redline 15w-50 and it now takes 13 qts for an oil change.
One of my major goals was NOT to cover up a majority of the radiator but allow enough room between the core and radiator support for flow. It's a god mix of flow through the oil cooler, condensor, radiator, and through the oil cooler and into the radiator support and where ever the air wants to go.

The front brakes are TOAST. They were good in the last session at Buttonwillow. Today, they were spongy and it was 4 and I had a party to go to tonight. So I bled all four corners tonight. The front fluid was a little toast but the front rotors are done! Cracked and blue. They have been on there for 2 years. I hope they make it through the day tomorrow.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa251/Payback1969/OilCooler011.jpg
Oh yeah, I pulled the jabroni move of the century. I drilled a hole in my radiator.  I was to lazy to remove the radiator. Long story short, I had about a half inch and was enlarging the t stat holes and went a little deep. It's epoxied up so it's getting replaced after this race. It will only be the 3rd radiator in this car.
I was going to throw the towel in on this deal after the radiator incident. Dad called and I told him the car probably wouldn't be ready. I could hear the disappointment in his voice and I manned up and I've spent about 15-20 hours out there this week getting the car ready. I even put his ass to work today. He cut the zip ties on the wiring harness above the t stat. ha ha After we got her running and warmed up I broke the news about letting him drive tomorrow. I hope he doesn't kill a cone worker.

Rich, it's an Earl t stat. Seems to be performing as advertised. When I inspected it, one cooler port is open all the time. If that wasn't the case, you could have a pressure drop upon t stat opening along with temperature shock. Worked great today. Car didn't get over 195 and we were running it back to back with heat soak.
Dad and I had a blast today. We lucked out and ended up in a huge lot and my best tiem was 75 seconds! When we walked the course, I specifically told him to be careful through a section. It was pretty straight and had a fence about 30-40 yards from the corner. I let him take the first run and he's barreling down this section and we damn near went through the fence. :willy: Jumping in my car and going fast isn't a cake walk. He ended up doing pretty damn good. He was about 8 seconds off my best lap. He afforded me the luxury of giving him hell until his dying day. He took out about 8 cones at the finish line. My spoiler is in pieces at Las Vegas motor speedway. He came out of the last corner and got a little greedy on the loud pedal. The rear end went one way and the other and you can guess the rest. I'm pretty certain it's payback for that 6k launch in his 199x Jeep Commanche that scattered his rear end. HA HA He was pretty jazzed at the end of the day. He drives one of them limp wristed C6 LS2's. :D :D

My '66 Corvette had A/C -- and my grandparents lived in Carson City, NV - so they wanted to borrow it for a trip. We swapped for a couple weeks. It came back with the nose busted up. I gave him crap about it 'til the day he died. It was the perfect 180* "out" situation.

Hey Todd, I noticed quite a bit of splines showing on that steering shaft. You may want to check it out. I know how racing tends to loosen things up.

My wife was down in Portland where my brother in law (best friend for 42 some years) has a nice warehouse... and where I had stashed TWO '69 Camaro Convertibles.
She comes home on Sunday and there's some guys in the shop - she walks through and very casually says "so.... just how many cars do you own....?" and just keeps on walking. She wasn't looking for an answer - it was just a statement that she "knew" now that there was more than meets the eye. We never discussed it - and she never asked anything more about it. I don't ask her how many pairs of shoes she has either. It's just a taboo. That and I don't really GAF. :woot:

Todd, do you kno when they installed your 2 6x9s and your sub, did they cut the package tray sheet metal underneath to accomodate the depth of the sub and speakers?
It's been a while but I have a pretty exciting update. Got back from Christmas vacation to some awesome progress. I really like the direction they are going. He had the panel done that fits over the amp and the rear package tray but didn't get any photos. They said it sounds great ...but the battery was out. Really looking forward to them working the back seat. Findlay Customs has some talent. Check it out.

Vic, to be perfectly honest, I don't know the answer. I know the sub and port are contained in it's own box and bolted to the car and I believe package tray. From the photo, the 6x9's look like they are also part of the box. I gave Findlay Customs free reign and permission to cut up the back package tray. I could sure take a look for you. I didn't even go out to the garage to make sure the car was still on my property for about 2 months after my Dad and I ran the last autocross of the year. To be frank, I was completely burnt out on the car after 2011. It was a great year. I made three trips to Cali to run RTTC, NMCA/Hotchkis at Pomona, and last but certainly not least, Buttowillow. I also ran the Super Chevy show here along with a handful of SCCA autocrosses. Tore down the trans and put carbon fiber synchros in, replumbed the whole oil system and added a mack truck for an oil cooler. Anyway, it was time to do some hunting and let my girl rest for a while.
The front brakes were toast, I mean toast. Cracked rotors and smoked pads. I put on new slotted rotors and changed to a new pad compound on all 4 corners for 2012. I've had the car out a few times now and WOW, it stops! Better than ever on the street.
I had run Buttonwillow and got the car hot in every heat along with the last autocross and the valves needed checked. They were all pretty much right on the money except for one that was .003 loose.
The clutch came out of adjustment as the clutch and new aluminum flywheel seated at Buttonwillow. I've tweaked the adjustment and got it shifting well. I hope it makes me happy at RTTC. I'm not thrilled about the thought of swapping to a Magnum. Mainly financially.
I inspected the car from bumper to bumper twice while I had it up on jack stands.
Anyway, everytime I get into drive this car it feels foreign to me. In 2011 I just didn't put that many street miles on the car. At the end of the day, the car usually feels foreign to me when I go to the track. I want to put some decent miles on the car this year. I've driven to the office twice in a week and to appointments. My clients flip out. I forgot how much I enjoy just putting around in the car. I've been so focused on performance and racing.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa251/Payback1969/OfficePhoto.jpg
When I got home tonight, I decided to take a little free play out of the clutch. I popped the hood to let it cool off and noticed the air cleaner was loose. The only problem, the stud was broke!!!!!:faint: :willy: The air cleaner does rub on the hood when the engine pulls on the mounts (Drivers is solid by the way)but I never expected it to break! All I know is I doged a bullet. It broke off clean and I caught it just in time. If that wing nut would have come off, catastrophic damage. I pulled off the carb and smacked the broke off stud with a chisel and backed it out with a screwdriver. I decided to enlarge the air cleaner like hole so it could float a little. I don't know what else to do, I don't have but an 1/8" of room to spare between the hood and air cleaner. Keep in mind, this car has 6500 miles on it. LUCKY! It was a good time to check all the fasteners on the carb. I found a handfull that needed a little torque.

I put a 1969 302 rubber mount on the passenger side to absorb some harmonics and it does, but it allows a little movement.
Would a torque strap on the motor work?
A snorkle cold air setup and K&N? Not a classic look but it should gain clearance if you can fit it.
The price of the Magnum after a few drives was insignificant to me.
Car is looking good as ever.

I actually had the same issue with my BBC setup. Engine is shifted to the passenger side a little bit due to the NOS BBC frame stands, and that caused my 14" air cleaner to rub on passenger side of the hole in the hood when the engine torqued on my NOS rubber motor mounts. I reworked my air cleaner base to shift the filter assembly back over to driver's side by about 3/8" and that solved the issue. I had to get creative with the filter stud also to make up for that shift. Here are the pics if you're interested Todd:

Nice work there sir. Mine rubs in the 2 O'clock position facing the front of the engine. I'm running small block mounts. Looks like they need to manufacture these hoods somewhere between big block and small block mounts. :unibrow: Seems to be pretty common. The position of my rub negates a torque strap as well. While a cold air intake system would fix my problem and be very functional, ain't going to happen.

Jason, what do you think about a set of them CNC AFR heads, a little bigger cam, how about a single plane intake and new hood? Might as well throw fuel injection on it, right. I agree, my car is not out of anybody's league to build and that's what makes it interesting for most guys. Actually getting out there and using it certainly doesn't hurt. The continued tweaking is probably what separates my car from most. I'm certainly not done but it's just little annoyances and tweaks at this point. I really want to get the most out of the car and I still feel I can make some strides and achieve better performance goals. I don't think it's possible to build a perfect car OR buy one for that matter. I really do enjoy the tuning and tweaking and the small gains they allow.
Well said Todd. Keep the fire burning! Payback is a real asset to the 69 Camaro performance enthusiast. Reality is it could be considered one of our era's naturally aspirated benchmarks.

I'm not there yet but I don't think there is any doubt that I have one of the best all around BIG BLOCK:unibrow: Camaros on the planet.
Getting a really good pass down the 1/4 is a goal of mine this year. I've done a best of 11.95 et and 120mph. I'll be happy with sub 11.6 and around 123-125. With a better burn out, quicker shifting trans, better weather, I think it's there. Close anyway...The best times I've seen from 1st gen car in handling trim is around 11.4-11.5 at 123-125. Believe that was Stielow.
Maybe the gear ratios in the T56 Mag close ratio will also help. :unibrow:

but Ron Schwarz in his widebody Mustang ran 10.96 @ 134 on BFG KDW's on a cold track. I know it is not a 1st gen, but it is 3400 lbs and make 573 at the wheels with the LS7. Figured weight and HP was close to your car.

You would have to check with Mark. The best I've seen in in the 11.4 range in the videos and magazine coverage. The car is more than capable of mid 10's but not on street tires.
Ron's car is a freak of nature. I don't think anybody understands those numbers. :unibrow:
Rupp ran 11.3 to 11.5 of Mickey Thompson drag radials in Pomona between 123-125.

I was using those as an example..I think you are under estimating what your car can do. The launch is everything about turning a good time as stated above. You just need some time to see what you car likes when you are bringing it out. I don't remember what the air and track temp was like the last time you ran, but your car has more in it.
Just suspension adjustments that will allow it to transfer weight should drop times. Seat of the pants says reduce front rebound and rear compression, and maybe a lighter rear spring. Then put a chute on the rear just to confuse people. :D

Has anybody noticed how all dragstrips give you timeslips on the worst paper with the worst ink? You can barely read them when they give them to you, and a year later you need a microscope.LOL Maybe I'm just getting old.
My 60' on my best pass was 1.775, and my 1/8 was 7.166. With the cam thats in this car, its a big end car, it really doesn't start pulling til about 5200rpm. The Roadrunner in the one vid is my buddy Mike, we ran each other 10 times that day. Everytime he hung with me all the way down the track until about 3/4 from the end, he swears I hit a nos button, but its just the cam, and short intake runners, kinda sucks for Autox though.
Your car power wise has a 10 sec pass in it, its all about learning how to pedal it coming out. My first pass was a 13.4 spinning through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. My suggestion to you would be, to make it to the track when the weather looks bad, and nobody shows up, and take your time to learn what the car likes coming out. Hell I've got buddies running my 130mph in the 9s I know this car could never do that, there cars are lighter, and designed to carry the front wheels for 100 feet.
This is what makes this stuff so fun, learning the cars and the set ups. My project this year is to get my Mustang set up to Autox, so I'm not in the top 10 or 12, but in the top 5 or 6. Its my goal for the year, its a time consuming process, I'll let you know if I learned anything.

I've only been down the strip 6 times. It's definitely a delicate dance. I found this 60 foot calculator. http://wallaceracing.com/calc60ft.php
Based on our 60 foot times we should be running:
Your best: 1.775=12.75ET
My best: 1.905=13.6ET
If I can get down in your range 60 foot wise, I should be in the low 11's. It's never been my cars strong suit. I know I can nail a better launch as a driver but I have some inherit car drawbacks. I have over 600 ft lbs of torque at 3500 rpm, a 2.87 first gear, and 3.73 gear. I really could benefit from a taller first gear in every venue.
Your mph is out of this world. I was looking at the drag schedule and I think I'll go back out there in April for midnight mayhem and work on my goals of making a good pass.
Have you tried lauching the car in 2nd? If you don't have to feather the clutch excessively the taller gear might tame the torque.

No one mentioned Dub Motorsports here. Was that out of respect or fear?
Anyone slower than I has to deal with the fact that they got beat by the following:
243 RWHP
One legger
Drum brakes (no knockback, so I know that at least worth a tenth)
225's on the fronts (19's--Dub) 300 treadwear Nitto 555
275's on the rears (20's--Dubolicious) 300 treadwear Nitto 555
Cracked block
And the zip tied rag to the valve cover breather to contain the blow-by.
Last year I placed 21st out of 48 cars on the road course with this deadly combo--LOL. This means that if you have a better equipped car, then you already stand a better than average chance of placement in upper half of the field, or better than 56%. If you don't have one as "well" equiped as mine, you have at least as much of a chance to place better than mid pack. If you've got an ego problem and a much better equiped car and you can't beat me on the road course, the no mercy rule applies.

Yeah Doug, the first event of the year last year (RTTS), the engine let go at speed, drove through the oil and spun me into the wall..
Took about a month or so to fix it, I never missed an event last year, at least not one I planned on going to.
Would love to see some of the cars from the left side of the country over here, or me over there.

I finally got around to downloading some photos from El Toro. Kelli was riding shotgun quite a bit so I didn't get many. These are of the speed stop event. My car works pretty damn good in this event. Pettis Performance power is hard to beat and I have the car Slaloming pretty damn good. Can't forget the Wilwood brakes. I was cheating on 100 treads but I ran the 3rd fastest time of the weekend with a 21.830.
Here I am racing our boy Dave in Badmotorfinger. WAKE UP DAVE

Up next was my race with Mike Maier who eventually won this event and the entire event in my opinion. I must of caught Mike sleeping or that high strung small block doesn't get out of the hole real well. I was able to beat him twice in a row with my buddy Chris Robinson riding shotgun. Couldn't believe it.

This event is really the ultimate test of a car and driver IMO. Drag strip tree, drag race, BRAKES, U Turn, Slalom, Drag Race, BRAKES. This would be a perfect super car test.
The car ran fantastic all weekend and my new oil cooler/radiator set up kept things nice and chilly. It was 80 something on Friday and after my road course laps my water temp was 210 and my oil temps were under 240. On Saturday it was in the 70's and the spread was 205/230. The brakes were pretty damn good as well. My new compound is working well in ALL events. I'd say it's not quite as good on the Road Course as my last compound but it's better in the Autocross and Speed Stop due to intial bite. The transmission really pissed me off this weekend. If you remember, I tore my tko600 down last year and put in the carbon fiber synchros. Well, it still doesn't like to shift from 2 to 3. It wrecked my road course times. I have a aluminum flywheel in this baby and it revs so fast in 2nd gear. I hit the throttle and I need to shift, literally. Well, I was talking to Rockland this week:unibrow: and he said I don't have a chance. No **** sherlock. Trans is going down the road. I'm just looking at gear ratios and analyzing minimum and maximum gear speeds based on my experience on the street, autocross, and road course. Again, walking the line between multiple things, well....
I had the pleasure of having Mary Pozzi and Brian Hobaugh drive my car last weekend. Up until that time, my Dad was the only other driver to take it around the track. Mary seemed to genuinely love it. She drove it on Friday and said the balance was great, minus the steering wheel being to small. She like a soft/loose car and that's how my car drives.
On Saturday, Brian took the reigns and they had opened up the back section. Within three runs he ran a 39.8! That time was good enough for top 3 for the weekend! I coned away a 40.8 myself. Brian pointed out a downfall of my car. I warned him about all the engine braking it has before he set sail. When you are in a corner/off the gas/ and get on the brakes, it's loose. I got to thinking and that's exactly my downfall when I drive it as well. I need to tighten the rear up a hair and he's give me direction for the next event. He said it had the best turn in of any car he drove that weekend, including his. Quite the compliment.
Anyway, both amazing drivers with substantially different style. I learned alot this weekend. A car must be catered to the owner. End of story. I feel my driving style is very similar to Brians. I didn't get a chance to ride with him but I did Mary. She's way to smooth compared to me. I was joking around with her saying she barely tickled the four barrel and it's true. I always wanted to see how good I am at autocross. Brian was a good second faster in a car that I've been driving for 3 years. I've got some room for improvement and so does the car. That's a good thing.....
I'm continually amazed at just how far you can continually tweak these cars. The better you and the car get, new problems rear their head. I've got some mild shock tuning to do next time out and a trans to change. Other than that, my car is almost to it's full potential. The driver is getting better as well. I guess when I hit that mark, I'll just have to build another one.

Judging from that first pic 2.75 seems modest. With the car as heavy as it is I dont know that I would change spring rates. To me it's all about timing...How long and how much do you want to compress and rebound before your in and out of the throttle. Get what I mean? I hope I explain this right but I look at it as the amount of time it takes to compress the shock before it bottoms out and then has no where to go but sideways for the front. Out rear, IMO, it seems your shifting to much weight to the front under hard braking. I was thinking more along the lines of double or triple adjustable shocks out back to minimize and slow that down. Like I always say, I'm no pro at suspensions but thats a peice of my thought process when I'm tuning.

I set the rear shocks up myself with my custom mounting brackets so it's definitely 2.75". You have to remember that we are coming to a complete stop at threshold braking. I do agree with slowing down the weight transfer but when you are braking for 100 feet or more, it's only going to slow the process. I'm going to do exactly what Brian told me to do in my next autocross and if that doesn't do it, it's time for a front spring change and/or rear shocks with compression and rebound adjustments. I've never really felt my car got out of the hole that well but last weekend definitely changed my mind on that whole deal. I still think I can get out of the hole better with better shocks and a taller first gear. Time will tell.

Thanks Ron, it definitely makes it interesting for me to compete with such old technology. I have to be honest, everybody has underdogged me for so long for running a big block chevy. In many ways, I really think it's an advantage in these multi events. The extra nose weight over the aluminum block LSX stuff in autocross is really the only negative I see(75-100lbs). The amount of torque and engine braking cancels that out in IMO. My engine make a lot of average power. I'm making 604 ftlbs at only 3700 rpm. I'm still making 631 hp at 6800 rpm(Redline) and over 500 ftlbs at 6700 rpm.
So, my average power from 3500-6800 is:
581.1 hp 598.13 TQ
Peak:
666.7 HP/6200 RPM 641.1 TQ/4700
Jason Pettis built me one hell of an all around engine that is very streetable. We discussed in great detail what I intended to do with the car and he nailed it. End of story.
Impressive numbers.
Stay the course, '69 Camaro's are muscle cars and Yenko's are a historic American icon. HP to weight ratio is HP to weight ratio. Hi-tech HP is cool but not required as without traction control and proper suspension setup there are thresholds.
I'd much rather out prepare and drive someone than win with computer assistance and money.
Payback is a great modern day representative of the true Camaro heritage IMO.
Solely for conservation and environmental reasons fuel injection for the ZL1 could be an acceptable option. :unibrow: But good suspension and setup will deliver faster times with Iceman at the wheel.

Dond worry hp is hp and torque is torque.
you cant change the laws of fisics. we are secredly working on a car called ""Road Force One"" it wil be a GT road racer but one that is stil capable to drive on the streets. its engine is a All pontiac Ia2 aluminium Pontiac engine. witch wil take all the origenal injun,s engine parts from the 60,s and 70,s.
the engine wil have 730 hp 700 lbs feet of torque 7300 rpm red line and a one of a kind vari lift system(1,18 roker ratio below 3500 rpm/1,67 above) witch wil give the engine a torque curve of 5000 rpm!!!. the rocker system wil give the engine a 20* bigger cam without loosing drivenilety, so its old technolegy put in a new jacket and with newt tech parts divelopt for the old engine disighn. cant think of a modern ls7 engine witch wil be able to compeat with that.

Not wanting to spend $4,000 swapping over to a t56 magnum, I thought I'd take one last swing at this tko 600. I did a bunch of research and found one blaring similarity with happy racers. Clutch Air Gap. I've seen claims up to .080 needed for a smooth shifting 600. So I went to work and was able to get approx. .050. That puts the engagement at the very top of the pedal travel and barely any air gap between the throwout and pressure plate. It's not getting any better with this clutch. I ended up using an allen wrench as getting into the starter hole with some feeler gauges wasn't my idea of a good time. You can see the allen wrench in the 5 o clock position.

Verdict: It still shifts like a John Deere tractor. I'm running the Mopar event at the speedway(Autocross/Drag Race) in April and then it's time to go 56 Mag. Hopefully I'll be able to hit 3rd and lay down a decent 1/4 mile time.

I decided to adapt a set of dual adjustable Afco shocks to the rear of my car. I have reached the end of the rope with my single adjustable Varishocks. I'll never forget Mike Maier's face when I told him that was what I"m running out back. Anyway, to meet my future goals, I need more adjustability. Not only to slow down my weight transfer but to get down the 1/4 on the level I desire. I like the idea of having the same manufacturer front and back. Since my DSE sub has dual adjustable AFCO's this was my first choice. I got lucky and AFCO was able to build me a shock within .1(Stroke was also within .150) of the length of my old shocks and I'm able to mount them to reduce the unsprung weight while keeping the adjustment knobs accessible. That meant I didn't have to cut new relocation brackets. I did have them add a bump stop. I'm sure it will take me a few events to find the sweet spot but it should be worth it in the long run.

Dang! Does the ad agency for Viagra rent out the cars in your garage for their commercials?
I'll be out in Vegas to beat up on some magical Mopars, or whatever they call their event. You'll be there right? We need to show them what two lightweights can do against those Challengers.

Just out of curiosity, when you make a pass on the 1/4.... what settings do you run your front shocks at and is your front sway bar connected ??

Nah, they passed me up for a guy with a Shelby Mustang.
I'm there man. Planning to autocross one day and drag race the other. What day do you plan to run?

I've only run down the 1/4 twice but I tried to mimic a 90/10 shock. Close to full compression and very little rebound. I did have the sway bar connected both times but I do plan to disconnect it for next weekend. What type of mile per hour do I want in the burn out box?

Sounds good on the front end little rebound as possible is good and disconnecting the front SB will help..
You usually don't want to do a big burnout on street tires or one at all. Street tires get greasy if overheated. The most you would want to do is clean them off real quick with a little tire spin. if you do do a burnout, do it just until you see a lil smoke then pull out of the wet still spining, Maybe even try it on the dry surface (you've got to find out what the car likes)
As far as the MPH or RPM during a burn out ..you'll have to find that "sweet spot" with your car.. every car/combo is different I myself liked a low rpm burn out at the hit to keep the slicks flat against the surface of the track.
Are you running the tires that are on your car now or a drag radial? Same front tires as on the car now?
If running street tires and don't already know..
Go around the water box!!!!!
Your front street tires may carry some water to the beams and this keeps the water from puddling up under your front 'street tires" when you stop. And you dont want to be dead in the box cuz your rear tires will splash water up into your wells and it can drip back down onto them, plus the treads will hold water. So if you want to wet the rears BACK UP TO THE WET AREA in front of the dip. Have a friend guide you if needed..
Air up your front tires some. This will help a little with car's reaction time and less rolling resistance
Also... slowing the rear compression may slow the hit of the tire and help it hook. Again you got to find that "sweet spot" for your car on that days track conditions.
I really suck at explaining stuff. I hope this will help ;)
PS if you are running Drag radials or slicks and front runners..I'll give you another long winded explanation LOL

I'm running R888's which is a road racing 100 treadwear. It definitely likes heat so I think a burnout is needed. I have a 295mm front tire so airing it up is a good idea as it's a lot of resistance. Eventually, I would like to get another set of wheels or a spare set of rears for a drag radial.

Todd,
What is the anitsquat set at in the back?
Here is my mustang with a tri-4link set at around 125%. Less than 300hp but launching at 6200rpm with 10.5" slicks. I also have AFCO double adjustable shocks on all four corners, but lighter springs in front and rear than a typical pro-touring car. Typically a second gear burnout hitting the rev limiter at 6200.

I have no idea but I don't plan to change it as I don't have the adjustability with my 4 link. I'd have to change pinion angle and that's counter productive for the street, ride height, high speed drivability. I'm just trying to get down the .25 the best I can in my protouring set up. Drag radials could be down the road.
