I agree with Rob, and I seem to remember someone comparing Dave's -An fittings to Ron's brackets.

...[regarding pictures] you guys don't seem terribly picky. Everyone seems happy when Dave and Ron post pictures of -AN fittings or brackets.

Yes, I quoted myself. Yes, I have been struggling this week, but you guys are quite aware of that.

Wish I could, but I get no credit for that idea Greg. Dick at BOS came up with that little gem and my designer, Optima Matt, approved the deal. I had an extra bracket in my parts pile (go figure) and it worked out perfectly. I think they fabbed it up in two hours. Those guys are... :G-Dub:

Thanks for checking in Gaetano!

There's some minor engine harness gremlins going on, and maybe a Comp lifter issue (or two). BOS is meticulous, as is QMP in tracking this down. I'm travelling Saturday for a week so it may be after that before we get it sorted.

I couldn't be happier with the help I'm getting, but just can't avoid work interruptions

I'd love nothing more than to chase you down at BW but the punchlist is fighting me. Better right than rushed at this point!

A quick update...

Man work gets in the way of fun! I just got back tonight from a six day business trip. Successful - and I'm not complaining - but it looks like I'll need to be on the road quite a bit through the middle of August. Se la vie.

I have a couple of pics of what should be the complete engine bay. The harness is unplugged and so are the plug wires on the driver's side. Pretty sure we chased all the gremlins, so I hope to follow Jeff and fire this baby soon!

http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac52/flash911/Build%20Thread/IMG_0422_zps34a6ec95.jpg (http://s885.photobucket.com/user/flash911/media/Build%20Thread/IMG_0422_zps34a6ec95.jpg.html)

The shock resi brackets need to be adjusted along with organizing a couple of other lines for cleanliness, but if she runs (!), next stop is header-back exhust fab. I have a pretty good idea how that should go, but it all depends on what fits.

Very nice project Ron,

I have been following for awhile.

One thing i am noticing... 'Don't you feel the rad support and the rad itself are a bit out of place in that natural finish with all that black Surrounding them? They might blend in coated black imo. It makes a big Wham! Of silver when there is none around to bring it together..

Just a 2c worth of eyeballing from a casual onlooker. No bashing or negative commenting meant.

I understand they are parts that cost money and we usually want to show them off, but there might be a better way.

Lovin everything else!! Lol!!

Lead.

Ron in SoCal
07-12-2013, 12:30 PM
Hey Lead...thanks for the comment! Taken exactly as you meant and I don't disagree at all. I recall Steve Rupp installed his Autorad core supprot and had it powdercaoted to mute and match. I really liked the look of it.

My design response is not exactly 'because racecar,' but more of a funtional underhood that blends black, aluminum and a touch of red. There are higher end cars that have done a great job of making the entire underhood flow and match and I was not chasing that.

I've quoted Indian Larry (RIP) in the past where he had said, "why cover it up? It's function is it's beauty." Hope that makes sense?

Also really appreciate your input

Oh and :hello: Skippah! :)

Cold oil = 85 to 100 PSI. Open headers and the O2 sensors are wreaking havoc. Also need to work on some harness grounds and other stuff, but the engine harmonics are good. Valve train purrs and the car really wants to rev. Like now. Probably is just a DBW TB adjustment, but my ego is happy :headspin:

Thanks Ron... I love the way mine XR-1's are sounding even over the video. Raced home from work and had to watch the vid on the big monitor with the volume turned up so the sub could shake the floor. Good thing the wify wasnt home.

I had to dump the exhaust before the rear end. Couldnt get them 3" pipe around the AirBar and shockwaves. I know its going to be loud but thats all part of it.

Hey Ron

Congrats on getting the engine fired up, really sounds healthy. I heard you mention how quickly it revs up, these motors are sick. First thing I noticed when I fired mine. Must be all the light weight Ti inside. So I just re did the complete fuel system, Fast102r,nw102,ID850s, carls zl1 pump, holy crap it now revs like it has ITB's on it. Seat dyno really improved power under the curve.
Im psyched for you, can't wait to hear more.- Rich

Funny you mention that Rich. I was talking with QMP on Friday about the future dyno day and they said they got 20 hp in back-to-back with the Fast 102 and NW. I was trying my best to defend the ported factory stuff.

I guess I'll save that for part II. Thx for jumping in Brother

Reminds me of Run to the Alamo..... a shop with two Mustangs unloads the cars off the trailer -- one is brand spankin' new build... a "helper" is tossed the keys and told to go down the street to fill it with gas.... The street is wet... and heavily crowned... The station is 4 blocks away. The car is upside-down in the ditch.

Ron, your car is turning out beautiful and is probably my favorite color for these cars. I'll be starting my own project some day and your car is the only one I've seen that I'd just buy (if I could afford it :drowninga: ) and not really have to change anything.

Great Job! I just wish I was closer so I'd have an opportunity to see it in person.

The 1950’s saw the introduction of the Holley Model 4150™ 4-barrel on the 1957 T-bird. It was the beginning of the modular Holley 4-barrel as we know it today. It was the first true performance carburetor and became standard equipment on many high performance automobiles. The 1960’s were huge for the hot rod industry, and Holley, as the Model 4150™ became original equipment on the baddest factory muscle cars ever to come out of Detroit. It powered cars like the popular Z28 Camaros, Big Block Chevelles, Boss Mustangs and Shelby Cobras to name a few. This era also saw the introduction of the awesome Holley three deuce multi carb set-ups on 427 (Tri Power) Corvettes and 440 (Six Pack) Mopars. If it was a serious car it had to have a Holley. An American icon was also born in the ‘60s as the Holley Double Pumper® rolled off the line. The world famous Holley Dominator® also made its debut in 1968, developed specifically for NASCAR® racing.

Man I wish I had a driving update! Yesterday I towed the car down to Warner Custom Exhaust in Oceanside. The place has done Matt's, Gregg's and another BOS customer Tom's Camaro and all were very happy. Towing was an episode of keystone cops and a little harrowing - U-haul sucks and I gotta buy a trailer.

Anyway, I took a page from Charlie and Mark and did something similar to Jack A$$ since we have the same front/rear suspension. 3"/16 ga. 304 SS and expansion joints, v-band clamped to a siamese x-pipe (corvette style), into my custom offset Borla XR1s and up and over the axles. All mandrel bends, Tig and purge welded.

I almost fainted when I got the quote today.:waveflag:

Done right, and should be out of the shop next Wednesday.

When the time comes ... I suggest a TPD trailer. They are the best built small to medium size enclosed car trailer. They tow & brake excellent. Super well built. Have the sealed axle bearings changed every two years & it will last as long as you want it. Then when you sell it, you're probably get your money back.

I had several. The 20' with two 5200# axles or 24' with three 3500# axles are awesome combinations. You can see them here (http://tpdtrailers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/1TPD-2013-Vortech-Tagalong-Brochure.pdf).

Done right, and should be out of the shop next Wednesday.

ok what did ya pay? that would be $2500 in my shop. I thought I read 3/16" tube. LOL

Sounds bad asss bro.

That number is about right Bro. I do need to set the record straight though: my comment on cost in no way reflects on the vendor quality or fairness of his pricing. I'm just used to buying junky 4x4 cat-back stuff. Now I know better :sieg:

no worries, not my intent either.

I had a client wet himself too but he went to an exhaust shop to get it done for 1/2 the price. He came back later to have me redo it. Cost him $3500 in the long run. Those v bands aren't cheap either.

It's a good day :D

Awesome. It's great to see the continued progress on your ride. It's got to feel great hearing her run and know that it won't be long now. We can all attest to the fact there will be probably be a lengthy 'dial-in' and 'tinkering' period for you to get everything truly squared away, but you're really getting close to that point of being able to take her out for a spin. I'm sure we'll be cruising and catching up with each other in no time.

Me too Lenie! The car is about two hours south of me and I only spoke to Jim @ Warner's late this afternoon. Should work great. We had stainless steel counters in our trailers & pit carts ... and used Zep's.

One day Randy (GM) used WD40 & it worked exactly the same. It made us go "Hmmmmmm ..." From then on, we just grabbed whichever of the two was handy.

Every update moves you that much closer. Interiors are over rated, just throw a 5 gallon bucket in there for a seat and go drive.

While there I also got the upclose view of Matt's widebody/purpleish beast, saw Evan's car on the rack (nice Evan!) and spent a few miuntes looking over Track Rat among other cool projects. I do have to say again I just love the vibe in the shop. Great group of guys you just want to hang out with.
