I recently visited with Ron and got to see this car up close. Some fine engineering and detail going into this car. While not the best pic - you can spy some of that engineering hanging from the firewall.
I know why he's been so quiet - he's been testing out a new "Tron"-inspired theme for the car. I told him it's not for me but I understand it's a personal choice

Seriously, just buying parts and planning changes. As soon as i make some progress worth taking pics I'll post it up. BTW Aarik, we're planning on trying to view the MCOTY the Monday after Colombus. You up for it?

Sad, but true...
Ok, so no pics but here's an update. Pretty much got to the end of my list @ JCG. Cris has alot of projects in the shop and SEMA will be here before we can blink so it was time to move the car outta there.
Seems like I do everything 3x and I'm still stuck in this mode but hopefully not for long. Also having painted or powdercoated parts drives some compromise. There was still some fab to be done and Mr. Fab53 offered to step in so off to his shop the car went. Brett squared the car every which way possible and rewelded the sub. Should be undercoat touched up by end of week. Brett is also fab'ing my subframe downbars to connect to my sub and double as a swaybar mount. This will save the p-coat. Brett's also adding a removable 5th diagonal link to my rollbar for added saftey.
In other news, with the car at ride height the rear wheels rubbed. I think this was caused more by my rear end width than the wheels ordered wrong (5.5" BS). I want it to sit right, so I took my rear over to Speedway for some mods. Also, had an offer to buy my wheels so I sold them and spoke to Frank. He gave me a smokin deal on some GW3s which get me to 19 in the rear. Unfortunately there is no good 100 TW option in 335/19 so I went w NT05s for now (da*n!); only other option is 30TW and I may go there after the Nittos get ground down. Wheels and tires should be in by end of next week and rear will be at the p-coater by then also.
We also need to do some rear shock relo to eliminate bind (not sure how that happened?) and trunk relief mods for exhaust clearance. This should be done by next week as well.
Once all this is done we start to put the car back together. The only thing left to do before wiring really is finish the oiling routing and motor breathing, do the final connection for fuel, brakes and clutch. Hoping to get all this done in the next 30 days.
Here's a fun milestone. I actually 'sat' in my car for the first time ever:

Good question Greg and Rick is partially right. On the original install, we used a dowel pin/subfr alignment tool along w the GM factory manual (actual Fischer frame straightening dimesnions manuals, not just the eBay repros). We got it to 1/8" tolerance.
At Cris' shop, in an effort to lower the car we modded the trans tunnel and installed Cris' 1/2 height subfr bushings which actually have tighter tolerances to the subframe holes.
When Brett and I decided to get it to 1/16, the bushings didn't allow Brett to jog the sub over to get us there so he had to do a little clearancing.
So yes, scope creep played a part for sure...

Ron- Good to see that you got Brett to square the car for you…
As I mentioned to you before you picked up the car.. I have done two A/M subs & had issues getting them to square up per Fisher manual instructions with the pins… I have always used these bushings on stock subs & my DSE installs with no alignment problems.. As I showed you examples when you paid us a visit to discuss subject that was a issue.. The modification you did to them works but would like to see a pic of what the alignment looks like on the body to sub per Fisher manual instructions… No matter what.. the goal is to everything square & 1/16 to hold for tolerance is acceptable in book.. That is all we work towards here @ the shop
On the original install that they did for you… you used the Fisher manual instructions per attached sheet with pins in position like the pic attached..

I "think" Gaetano is talking about sanctioning bodies requiring a secured center cap.
If he is thinking of a spindle clearance issue, somebody needs to bring him in to the 21st century.

Was re-reading post and realized that the 5/16 diagonal number was wrong. Just checked my note book in garage and noticed that it was actually 5/8's out of square diagonally when I started.
I know this is old news now that everyone has moved on to rims, but I just wanted to set the record straight.
but you would have to adjust 5/16" no? If I m reading you right you were correct.

That ship has sailed once you start using removable bars IMO.

Hey Mike - these are my favorite and come in 1 1/2":
http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/ID-Tube-Clamp_p_1467.html
or http://www.trail-gear.com/miscellaneous
Brett wanted to use exact 1 5/8" O.D. (DSE size) to do the metal finish work, so I got these:

thanks for the leads.

Just a little follow up to the prior post before I go onto the next punch list item for Ron.
Now that the seat belt bar and cross brace are completely fitted, I took them out for final TIG welding of the disconnect joints. After TIG welding the joints, they were ground down and metal finished.
http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Dead%20Pool%2069%20Camaro/IMG_3348.jpg
I don't mind TIG weld beads exposed on most completed work pieces that I do. However, there were going to be 3 welds in a row with the disconnect joints installed. This is a high visible portion of the car, So I thought a little metal finishing would go along way in the looks department here.
http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/Fab50Three/Dead%20Pool%2069%20Camaro/IMG_3350.jpg
Now the completely finished bars can be put back into position within the DSE roll bar and final welding completed.

Thanks for all the compliments and thanks for the interest in my work at Fab53.
Next item on the punch list that will be posted will be the modifications to Dead Pool's rear bumper.
that is some excellent work, ron still waiting to go see it, promise no pictures:hail: :hail:

Boy Vince, Tough crowd. Im not even sure how to respond to that.
I don't know if you are just poking me or if you are serious. Would hate to start a pissing war on Ron's build thread, so I sent you a PM to defend that statement.
Just my opinion, not talking down on you at all. Im sorry you took it that way. Im not saying you are incorrect my reasoning:
When you weld a cage you want good penatration, you know this. When you grind down a weld an observer or tech guy would never know it was there, how thick the weld is or condition of the joint. You know this. That is why im not a fan of it. Plus I like the look of a nice tig bead on CM. I believe if a joint was created, it should be obvious to all.
Just saying, not trying to provoke a pissing match or debate. I usually type what I feel and will put it out and not hide it.
no hard feelings intended brother.

Hey Ron, I finally found your build thread! Now I have to go home and read it from a computer that doesn't block content so I can see all the photos. Still looking to get out and see it in person.

That's it Ron!! This build has gotten out of hand. The car is too damn nice for you to go out and beat on it. It has become way too beautiful for you to flodge it. So, just pull it out on Saturday's, cruise around So Cal, let everbody drool over it and then put it back up. :drive: :drive:

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply...planes, trains and automobiles for the last 20 hours. Anyway thanks for the props! Car looks like it's sitting right, maybe a tad low. When I return next week I'll get the rear to the PCoater and a few other R&D items and then we move to finish assembly. So no Bryan, that 30 days aint firm... Brett continues to be meticulous (sp?)in his approach and I really appreciate that about him.
Wheels are 19x12/335 and 18x10/285. Let me know if you want BS or aspect ratio.
And Marcus, the car will be flogged. I'm not a car show guy...:D

I can't believe he said "Maybe a bit too low". I didn't think that was possible. Dude, it looks awesome--leave it just like it is or lower it more. You are only one inch away from being Dubalicious with those 19's.
If Brett is around this weekend I am hoping to spin by and see the thing first hand.
