Wait til I let him run the Mustang at Sonoma in August.... then he'll want one of those! Everyone has a Camaro... Why have a car that there's 1000's of vendor parts for at cheap prices when you can drive the same basic car for twice the cost?

And just for the record..... One must actually have posted up a video of real track time in order to have a "man card"... (well - except Todd - he had to forfeit his after he got scared and sold the car).

Wear them next time you pound the scooter around Brett's shop - that'll make 'em real! LOL

So Elvis has an update...

The car made it over to BoS. You might've heard about the SD fire last week. I was in Florida - sweating it out - but in the end the shop and all the cars were OK! For a while there we thought it might be an evacuation situation. :getout:

The little stuff is just about done. The remaining list is so small it's ridiculous. Brakes are bedded. Motor/trans/rear is broken in, somewhat. Fluids are changed and ready to rock n roll...:D

Spolier and tow hooks are on.

Rollbar seatbelt mod is done and shoulder harness is installed.

Standard PT fender braces are on.
http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac52/flash911/Build%20Thread/shop186_zps252fd967.jpg (http://s885.photobucket.com/user/flash911/media/Build%20Thread/shop186_zps252fd967.jpg.html)

Track ride height is set, I think. Might take another .5" or so in the rear.
http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac52/flash911/Build%20Thread/shop188_zps333d3286.jpg (http://s885.photobucket.com/user/flash911/media/Build%20Thread/shop188_zps333d3286.jpg.html)

Stay tuned on that.

Bad news is I'm working the balance of the week and family stuff Saturday so I'll have to wait until next week to pick it up. Also looks like I'm on the road for work most of June, so home brew break in and track testing plans are up in the air. But...I'm on it

I'm thinking suspension travel. .5" up will nail the stance and increase shock travel.

Exciting times!

So that's a funny story. I bucked the trend and ordered longer shocks than what RT thought they should be and what others with the same year/subfr are running. 4.1" of travel with a 10" spring and a 1.67 motion ratio. Originally the car sat high. Sort of like 4x4 high and I'm saying to myself "I f'd up again!" I was ready to and had designed an upper shock relo mount, as my LCA was pointing downhill a couple of degrees. Matt kept telling me to just wait and get the car loaded. I'm also aware good springs don't settle much. But the Hyprecos did. The car is at 23.5" at the center of the wheel to the bottom of the front fender. Same as some guys running the .5" shorter shock. I'm hoping I get plenty of travel...

RE: K Walls

Yes they are! Which is why people need to LEARN to inhale -- and drive within their limits... everyones limits are different. Don't do it the "Weld Way" -- which WAS (key word there) "visor down - race on!" and go to school the hard way.

I have learned about cold tires - cold track - cold brain.... I have learned NOT to take a point-by just because it's given.... I have learned about NOT trying to catch the guy that's half a lap ahead of me - within the next two turns.... I have learned it's MORE FUN to drive within my personal comfort zone - regardless of how many faster cars are on the track.

RE: Sh!t dishing

This is dished out in copious amounts regardless of, with or without car... slow or fast.... newb or expert.... race... religion... height... shoe color... well, you get the point.

Ron, your springs haven't settled (yet). Your car just got fatter while it was away.

The flat spots on the tires make it look lower... Ron we going to see you at Fontana?

-Evan

Yep, getting fatter by the day. Oh wait, the car, lol. I may stop by Rob's on the way home and corner weight it. Knowing me, that'll take oh about four hours :D

Ev not sure about Fontana. I need to do some prep yet I'd like to sort it out once at least once before Fontana.

Sonoma...so I have to be in Monterey for work July 24 - 27th and then comitted to the Concourse and Historics the 13 - 17th. Sandwiched in there is Sonoma. Maybe I'll just move up North for the whole month...:D

Seriously, I'm considering towing the car up on the 24th, storing it and flying home. Then just fly up the next weekend and tow home after.

Back on the grid and thanks for all the comments AND the comedy!

So yesterday was pretty much a whirlwind. Swamped with work, I missed my window for a ride down to BoS (about 120 miles). I finished up, rented a trailer, got into a scrum with a AAA affiliate over a comment I made about building codes, nothing really – I’m like WTF? Don’t you guys know this is a big day and I don’t care about whatever it is your problem is? - loaded up and hit the road. I got to BoS by about 2:45. Typical pick up day thrash (in a good way). They’re detailing/polishing and throwing a few parts on. I’m in awe of the car lookin’ all pretty again. Ride height is lower and I’m stoked…:D

I sort and load some parts, go through my mental checklist as best I could. Next thing I know they’re inviting me into the office and have a little gift for me (first pic, next post). Awesome people, awesome shop.

Once the car is done being rubbed on, I check out the completed interior. First time I’ve seen the last few bits. Looks good to me! Dick has me go for a test real quick for a final check for any leaks and Matt hops in the car. Observations – new tune, tires are scuffed to the point they actually stick (!), brakes have initial bedding and it’s got an alignment. Whoa! I wouldn’t call it a new driving experience, but much more refined than last time. Exhaust note is deeper. You get into the throttle at even 1500 and the torque kicks in quicker. In second gear at 4k it’s too fast for the local business district. Contrast that the last/first time I drove it, I found myself revving higher to get there. The car took off and was ‘peppy.’ But this time requires much less throttle for the same result. Props to Mike Norris and Greg Blundell. The car sticks, stops and is literally point and shoot. I was like a little kid when I pulled back into the shop.

Once back we checked for leaks, found a resi seal missing which I ‘borrowed’ from Matt’s Mustang, which is coming along way better than you would imagine, and we head out to Escondido’s Friday night cruising Grand. Pretty cool scene there. Saw Josh’s car and one other PT/SCCA car, a couple of pro-street a bunch of stock restos and (GW take note: ) one of the nicest 32s I’ve ever seen. It would win awards on a national stage! It was also the local Pantera club night and that provided some eye candy.

After that Matt and I loaded up car and I made the drive home, unloaded and didn’t get to sleep until 3:am due to all the excitement.

I was just telling Torino man last night I have not had much time this weekend to return texts and calls, let alone post here. Yesterday was up down and under the car with a quick putt. Today was the first two freeway jaunts. Water got to 160 on the fwy. 185 in traffic. Oil was about 210 max in the heat driving around. I was concerned I might've over cooled the oil system for street driving, but it looks like the oil thermo is doing its job properly. Whew...

Oh, and I wasn't about to video a problem on its maiden fwy voyage. I had no idea what was going to happen. Overall this break in has been a success so far. :knokwood:

No, my camera did ..........battery died

This car is really nice, attn to detail is there

Good guess Sieg but I think I know exactly what it is (I could be worng, but I've been there before on another project). The way the Wilwwod pedals are fabbed in allows for no actuator rod adjustment, so I'll need to figure out a way to space out the throw out just a little bit. Sucks, but needs to be done.

On the fluid, I'm gonna keep running GM synchromesh and see if the break in helps

Yeah, I think and hope the clutch issue is a simple fix. The first time I looked under the dash and the pedal assembly for the previous clutch issue with jammed up rod, I just unbolted that little bracket that holds the brake light switch.

No I won't.

If I'm happy with it I WILL tell everyone where it was done. I'm not trying to hide who did it but I won't display it anywhere on my car. It has nothing to do with being proud of someones work and everything to do with the look of the car.

Heck, I've completely de-badged a few of my vehicles and may do the same to my Camaro whenever I have enough money for paint. Some of the badges are going for sure, others I may keep.

Stickers and badges adorn the walls of my shop and my laptop, but are gone from wherever I don't' like them on a vehicle faster than you can say Zai Jian. :D

Once again, just my anal opinion.

First, They were all born around the time your build started and second --and more importantly-- they were all considerate enough to post burnout video's on Youtube for others viewing pleasure. Oh, and don't think I missed your dig about cars that actually move. :action-smiley-027:

FYI, my car will move, it just needs to stop after it reaches temperature since the fans don't turn on.

Oh man the gallery is out in full force today!

So...yesterday Rob and I got together to look over my NRG removable hub install and also go take a ride over to QMP. With Sieg remote, I swear if we had added two nickels to what we already had, we might be able to buy one brain. Turns out I might have an old style ididit column because the NRG hub that mounts to the column bottoms out against the column when tightening the lock nut on the splined shaft. That results in not being able to turn the wheel. Crazy thing is it's only positioned by a C-clip, so I used one size larger additional clips as spacers and that did the trick. None of us are totally comfortable with that solution so I'm calling ididit and NRG tomorrow. Then of course there's the horn button position and wiring. NRG/Momo give you multiple parts to install in foreign, domestic and aftermarket wheels so we finally figured out the right combo. Lastly, the ground wire connectors between the Momo horn button and the NRG wheel mount are both male. 20 minute job was done way later in the day :sieg:

The trip over to QMP was fun. Brad is working on his own head program and we got to compare a few different designs from the Mast/Mozez mamma jammas to WCCH, some large Hemi heads and more. Fun stuff. I finally got bored with Rob's FE motor NASCAR history lesson babble so I dragged him outta there and we both hit the road home.

Today I took the car out to do some testing. I intended to season the rotors per Baer's specs but they're still fresh and you're supposed to wait until you get enough miles on them to get rid of the zinc plating before starting the procedure. So I went for a putt instead and ended up at the Rock Store. Fun ride through the canyons. Had a C6 behind me at a couple of points and lost him quickly. We were driving about 7/10s so maybe he wasn't trying, but my ego is intact :D . My driving report - I'm trying to get used to the steering input. Seems different at times and I need to look into it. Feedback is good, but power assist sometimes isn't there and slow/medium/high speed has nothing to do with it. Weird, I know, but that's what break in is for, right? Under spirited street/canyon driving the tires and suspension stick surprisingly well at this point. I got a little sense of slip angle and teeny, tiny push (again 7/10ths or so) and that's what I was looking for. Motor and drivetrain rocks the house and at one point I had it past 5k in 5th. :Tomcat:

F'n car rocks, Just a fun, fun ride. :D

Oh, I'll upload a couple pics later. Vid next time out for sure!

Either he produces some video or none of it ever happened. Who drives their 10 year $200k project on a canyon road the first time and doesn't get video:headscratch:

I think Bad Ron has made all this up. :underchair:

He did glaze over when Brad and I started talking about everything but LS motors that part is true. We were talking about some Hemi builds and a couple Limas builds; what a cook Bill Coon is and the advantages of a forging over billet in a block.

In each case Ron asked if the made a billet accessory drive and matching valve covers for any of those motors.

Brad was telling me about the Med riser and Cammer he had just built this year and asked what made me do a Tunnelport. Somewhere between Brad telling me about the 302 TP he had built and my mentioning the round port RAIV pontiacs and RAV TP Pontiacs Ron said uncle and we left.

Just imagine how many times I have listened to Ron discuss the various ways to finish and care for billet parts and never said anything.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Does your steering wheel return to center both ways as it should? Does the power assist differ in one direction only? Is it heat sensitive?

Hey Todd...I had stiff steering after the motor warmed up in my driveway and I pulled out. Also had some weird corner experiences in the canyon (stiff then power assist) but only a couple of times. I would not say it's heat related as the car got much hotter later and the PS performed well. The pump does not whine and the belt appears tight. I haven't dug deeper yet, but I will.

Thx Bro

Sorry about the confusion on Coon. I don't know if he can cook. I just know everyone I know who has dealt with him says he is a Crook, thief and a liar. So I was describing him as a Kook.

You didn't answer Todd's question about the steering self centering if you let go of the wheel. I'm guessing he is wondering if the issue could be alignment related.

The car tracks straight on the fwy but the steering wheel is clocked 1/8 or less to the left. The BJ inspection is a great lead Todd. The uppers are aluminum pins (don't know how to describe them but they come with the LG spindles) and the lowers are the Pfadt/Howe racing units. I'd bet they need a good greasing after the '10' years they sat in fabrication.
