Ok I started to read about the BJ trip to pick up the Beast.... Then I found myself day dreaming about what I saw out there instead. Much of Robs' story is a lie. And I have a much better version. :warning:
He snores,
He can't drive a truck and trailer,
He can't even remember his name or that a Torino will still be a Ford,
His Torino is lower than a low rider,
His Torino looks bad-ass,
I like his Torino,
Chicks dig him because he is tall (Kind of a bummer when we hang out because I'm short and they look past me),
There was some serious good looking rears at the show,
He tells some funny stories (especially one about him 4 wheeling with a boat and trailer behind his truck),
It only cost me a few bucks to go to BJ and meet the RS crew,
I might hang out with him again or maybe consider going to the shooting range with him again,
He likes to compensate size with large caliper guns (my 38 did just fine),
His wife is way cool (drives a big truck, checks the fluids for Rob, and prefers to drive my truck over Robs' small daily driver),
He actually does have 2 bitchen Corvettes in his garage,
He is actually a pretty good life coach,.....
yeah the trip was pretty fun and I would probably do it again (How about Texas)

I see nothing here that contradicts my tale of the Torino at BJs. I already explained forgetting my own name and backing up my wife's truck like a chick on Tosh .0 was due to no sleep:lol:
I agree with you on the Torino it is LOW :relax: and it is Bad Ass.:D
and by rears you ain't talking 9 inch.
Oh I have more than one trip worth of stories, trust me on that. They are funnier when Cheryl tells them from the spectator perspective.
Yea Cheryl is way cool but beyond her obvious brains and personality she is Hot. How could you be so shallow as to miss that.
You know my 1911 shoots straighter than that bb gun of yours:lmao:
Enough with the Corvette talk already :smiley_smack:
Looking forward to the next trip especially since it's your turn to drive.
Rob,
Now that she's home what is your plan? http://www.desmonorthwest.com/forums/images/smilies/cool2.gif
Tomorrow I will get off my A$$ and wipe all the sheet metal down with some metal prep. Then I'll remove the steering column and decided weeather to rebuild or replace it with an IDIDIT. Make a list of the parts I need for that project to get the steering connected to the rack and get to work on Cheryl's wiring.

:bang: How do I put that Genie back in the bottle :willy: :willy:
Brett says bitchen but he means the years not the condition.
Cheryl has a 59 original 283 with a powerglide. All the original stuff is there but the carb and air cleaner. It has a crappy repaint on it that is flaking off. When they painted it they cleaned off the grease pencil markings in the trunk so original color is now a mystery.
I bought a 69 a few years ago when everything hit rock bottom. Looks like the same hack repainted it also. Original 300hp 350, 4 speed and 323. with ac, ps,pb and power windows. Silver with dark green interior. All there and in good shape. Just a beater to drive around every once and a while.
When I was a kid the neighbor next door had two friends. One had a brand new Pantera and one had a 2 year old Vette. That was in 71 and I was 7 so if you say Vette I think 69. I always wanted one and this one was way cheap.

As I warned everyone now that the car is home with me the updates will likely contain less cool fab work and things may move at a slower pace.
I ordered some parts this week for my hydro clutch and other small things.
One part showed up yesterday but I got home late and didn't even open the box till I got home tonight. The initial project review. Its small, light, billet and black. What's not to like? :D

Shameless brand imaging is rampant in the US so this is to be expected.

My phone takes pictures as crappy as Marcus's frame guy. But you can see the two small brass screens for the dual vent and the taped holes for the barbed or AN fittings coming from the fuel cell and rear housing.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll306/superjinca/f3_zpsb8990807.jpg
Here is a nice touch. Brian includes a punch template so drilling the holes for mounting will be a no brainer. You'd have to try really hard to screw up the mounting of the vent using this. See how it matches up to the position of all the holes you will need to drill in your trunk floor. Nice. I don't feel like going out to the garage to get an allen tool to open it up so you will have to wait for pics of the inside.

I would guess the first ones he sent out came with some template paper. I just got mine and I think now he automatically includes the metal punch template.

Sure I got a bunch of work done in the front yard today so I can work on teh car tomorrow.
Ordered a drivers seat so next week I can start mocking the mounting of that and sort out my driving position and steering column. Then I can take care of the steering shaft from the column to the rack and start thinking about a cage.
Having steering when I push this thing around will be nice.
Oh, so you're going to finish the wife's car?

Got out and did some work on the Torino today. I pulled the Fuel cell, steering column and all the factory AC/heater ducting from under the dash and mocked up my Kirkey seat for some test fitting. I also checked out the fit of the modern driveline clutch linkage and hydraulic master to see if it wil work as advertised with my pedals.
The Clutch linkage looks like a go as does the seat. I have around 5.5" of headroom without a helmet to the headliner so with helmet I should fit and be below the top of the cage tubing.
The lowered seating position has me thinking of reworking my pedals to give a more horizontal action to them. For now I'll just move forward with getting the seat mounted and the steering column in and then make a decision on that. It actually has me considering a footwell pedal assembly.
I snapped some crappy pictures to keep GW happy.:D

Yea I also mentioned it in the dyno thread that I am going to run the "other" pump fuel E85. You could go with bigs and littles -- 16 X 8's on the rear and 15 X 7's in front. And some RWL Tiger Paw wide ovals.

I think it is the lack of photo quality that is driving people away.
I'm going Kirkey for both form and function. I want something that gives it a Nascar vibe but is functional. When Brett did his pads in the 33 it really got me thinking of doing something similar but a little different. I figure black, a little thinner, with parallel eyelets ala GT40. When I saw Troy's Torino he did for Poteet I was sold on the idea. Yea the fact that Brian H used them in his Corvette and his 73 didn't discourage me either.
Yes, I don't want to add weight. All joking aside my car isn't that heavy and I want to keep it that way. I wanted a pair of these or a set of Ford GT seats but didn't have the $$

Almost looks like 3 kirkeys would fit in the front of this rig, then you could go to center steering like a McLaren F1.
Or have them custom build you a huge bench seat?

Hang that big wide bad boy from some chain with a couple hood hinge springs from the roll cage and you'd have yourself a boat with a barcalounger....
What could possibly be better than that??
Okay seriously -- that Kirkey back seat is the koolest idea I've ever seen! Can you imagine the knowledgeable people that would see that - you could just sit back and watch their jaws drop!

FYI Rob, I local friend of mine is having issues with the Modern Driveline setup in his 69 Chero. Here's a few video's he posted describing the issue.

Thanks for the heads up but I think your buddies problem has everything to do with his pedals and little to do with the linkage. The stock pedal design doesn't fair to well after decades of use with a heavy clutch. The metal shaft swinging in the metal hander with only a thin delrin bushing results in an oval hole over time and a pedal that no longer swings in one vertical plane. The side loading on the MD linkage looks to me to be his pedal rocking in the hanger.
Now in mine I took my pedals and pressed on some sealed bearings on the shaft and tacked in a couple of races on the hanger to hold the bearings. My pedals only swing front to back not side to side. The plane the pedals move in is aligned with the throw of the master. The pivot point on the MD linkage is at the bottom and the actuation rod for the master in the middle. The top is the pedal only moving fwd and back in a plane that bisects the master and the path of its piston. I don't think the bottom can chart a different path in my scenario. Ask your buddy if he can rock his pedals side to side, I bet he can. The only way to do that with mine is with a sledge or something else that can bend the hanger.

I have always thought if you just powder coat an aluminum Kirkey seat a flat black color it would look pretty slick. Just food for thought.
Flat black WRINKLE....
Of course IF we could actually SEE said seat in a photo - we'd have a far better chance of being able to help discuss various options....
Greg it's just like when Rodger picks you up to show you inside a car at a show. I know its a different angle that your not used to. :mock:
Powder coated my Kirkey semi flat black in my drag car just before I sold It, It looked awsome.
I'm all over powdercoating it satin black that is the plan. I may think about Scotts green pads....
Almost looks like 3 kirkeys would fit in the front of this rig, then you could go to center steering like a McLaren F1.
Or have them custom build you a huge bench seat?
You guys are killing what to this point has been the most serious of build threads. People may unsubscribe because of you two. :action-smiley-027:
Today was another demo day. I took out about 40lbs of stock AC/heater. 39" that seems excessively large.

The right design, stitching color, accent panel color & texture, grommets that tie in with other interior metals or satin black powder coat, and a custom FE Torino logo could make for some real nice deck chair pads. :D
These are awesome but you can design your own completely set.

Ouch, can't comment on Tucker wipe out.

Haven't done anything exciting. Just ordered some parts and firmed up some decisions.

Bought a wheel fit tool and have rounded up a couple of used tires for mock up and wheel measurements. I'm going to get my brake parts on, measure and order wheels.
Ordered my Peterson spline drive hub and stackers so I can star making brackets for my KSE PS/Fuel pump and my alternator. The parts are on backorder so probably 3 more weeks before I get the Peterson stuff.
Got some work done on Cheryl's Bronco so soon I'll be free to spend more time on the Torino

Yes typical Ford parts, You are right and wrong all at once.:mock:
Two beautifully engineered splined steel pieces with a light and functional AL piece locked in between. Race car goodness at it's best just like the Ford stuff but this is made by Peterson Fluid Systems. :smiley_smack:

Speedhut (internals) is what Redline used for mine as well. I really like the idea of the integrated programmable warning light.
That being said, considering they have warning lights I think I would personally omit the red warning "range" on the dials for a cleaner look.

Thanks how is your "little" Chevelle coming along? GW forgets who first said that about my girl with the big back end.
The "little" Chevelle is coming along. I updated the post today. I have had a few family issues go on around here so I haven't kept up with the forum lately. She is getting pulled back apart and the metal is getting finished getting ready for some color hopefully soon. I like the gauge setup your doing, that is something I need to work on as well..... it just keeps going and going.................

I keep going back and forth on that. May just leave the ticks and the numbers of the warning "range" red. It would be more subtle.

You probably don't need the warning ranges. It is a Ford so you shouldn't need them.
Personally, after trying to read the cool looking gauges in my Camaro, I would use big fat needle and put a warning range on the tach, and maybe put it on the oil and water temps as well. When you're flying down a straight, it is much easier to tell what RPMs your turning with a big red block on one side of the gauge. The red range blocks help to give you a point of reference so things are easier to discern, and (at least for me) requires less thinking when driving.

We mocked the car up with 335's. While they definitely would give a lot more protection during mooring, we were concerned that they would stick out too far and hit cones on the autocross. (13.5" section width vs. 11.2" section width of a 285):D
We are also looking at making some billet mounting chains for Rob now that our CNC is up and running. Nothing looks worse than rusty chains all over the deck!

Thanks for the break in offer, I'll keep it in mind. :lmao:
NO body mods on the exterior that is my goal. The rear is tubbed and once I remove the remainder of the shock towers and inner apron there is nothing but open space to the inside up front. The trick will be minimizing the backspace to maximize track while still maintaining usable turning radius. I'm working on a plan.

That's a good question. Maybe a good topic in the steering section.
The short answer is no. :headscratch:
I don't think full lock and full compression are going to happen at the same time. I also am more concerned with the full compression on the trailing side of the tire (behind the spindle at 2 o'clock on the wheel opening) since the car should be leaning towards the rear of the tire when the front is turned in (turn right car rolls left).
So I am looking for full lock at ride height and full compression at say 20 deg of turn angle clearing the 2 o'clock position.:confused18:

Whatever your personal opinion of my gauge design Speedhut nailed what I asked for. So for those of you putting together dash I'd recommend contacting them. For close to the same price as an off the shelf gauge you get to tailor them to your specs and they are made here in the USA. They were a pleasure to deal with.
I'll get my camera out and take some decent photos later since I think these deserve better.
This weekend I also got my Steering column and seating position mocked and the steering shaft measured so it can be welded.
I am 99% there on my BS measurements. Just waiting for my my brake parts to get here for one last test fit and then I pull the trigger on the order.

You must have had your motor built like the freight liner at OPTIMA. Check out this months Road and Track; Dan Gurney explains why that is all the rpm you need to win LeMans while driving in relative comfort.:popcorn2:

Yes there is a sensor in the rear bumper. If a Frst Gen Camaro is within 100ft it goes off.:stirthepot: :stirthepot:
Elise and Jessica, their graphics designer, were really cool. I also like the hold music on the phone lines, usually Led Zepplin.

A Drag Reduction System designed like that is going to make it pretty tough to pass a Camaro if you can get within 1 second in the DRS Activation Zone. :D

"A total Revolution in tachometer design
Versatile- The ONLY tachometer available to connect directly to distributor-less ignitions WITHOUT requiring any special costly tach adapters. This makes the installation much simplier than all other tachometers currently on the market.
Accurate- Digital stepper motor design proven in racing conditions.
Features
-Large easy to read dial. Progressive Shift in dial (5 super bright LEDs). Peak RPM recall. Setable shift point. programmable from .5 - 6 pulses per rev. Setable day/night shift light brightness. Compatable with remote minishift light. Billet aluminum anodized bezel. Fits 3.875 in. dash hole Case depth only 1.10 in. deep for easier mounting in dash."

If you pass a cop on the side of the road at 185 you can hit the next exit before they even put their car into gear........so I've heard.

Advise on the gauges. Buy them. You can tailor them to exactly what you want for the same price as an off the shelf set. The quality is very good, they look better in person.
I was just in Austin and saw Brian's (carbuff) 71, Bird The Other (only) Woman, which he did Speedhut gauges in. His dash was a beautiful piece.

Yee Haw! :excited:
Very nice. Which setup/ratios did you get, and where did you end up purchasing?
Yea relieved I grabbed another of the last big ticket items. :ups: It is an 11009. JMPO but the WR version is useless for a big hp motor.:shakehead:
I bought the transmission from a guy in Texas. A guy stopped paying his bill at a shop so the parts went up for sale. The transmission had been installed but not driven. So for $2500 I got it shipped to my door with a billet yoke a shift handle and the reveres and speedo wiring.:knokwood:
Now a guy I count as a friend had a little problem with a motor he bought that turned out to be just a bunch of parts in need of remachining and reassembly so I was pretty nervous about maybe screwing myself in search of a "good deal" :_paranoid
Then UPS calls and tells me they won't deliver it and I have to pick it up.:(
Turns out they say they shouldn't have picked it up because it wasn't packaged right. Oh crap! I go to get it and see this.

Are you kidding me. I spent a good 20 min looking it over real hard. Not a real mark anywhere on it. Fresh and clean looking with a correct tag. Turned over smoothly so it followed me home.
Tonight I drained the oil and it was full and clean. Shifts through all the gears and turns over like butter. I think I can stop worrying about it now :snapout: I think I scored a good deal.
There you go! Got your hands on that Magnum you've been wanting. Awesome.
Now your last post on your thread really says it all. Building one of these is a long journey. There is no really cheap way out but if you want to lay your hands on the build then it can really drag out. If you are paying for all the work to be done then you better have cubic $$ :G-Dub:
