This has been my struggle for the last few weeks! I had to cut the back side of the well so the bottom of the quarter will sit right. Now mind you the left side fit with no modifications just shows how crappy this aftermarket junk is ! This is the third set so I had to give up and just make this set work. Now this may look okay but I have to tell you it shows how much pictures lie. If you put the well up to the light it looks like swiss cheese. I have to make sure both sides look good you can see the back side from the trunk and you can see from inside the well so I want to make sure both sides are finish nicely. Easy right, F-ME what a battle. But I have one more set that I'm fitting much tighter so will see what happens.

Mario,
I can be one anal F**k but I think you maybe beating yourself up to much. If the welding has strength and there are pinholes dont worry. Spray it with good epoxy primer and use high build primer and or skim coats of filler for esthetics, after all these are areas that will be hard to see. Remember you want to drive this and enjoy it. I'm just saying..........

Mario --
Don't forget to clean BOTH SIDES of your area to be welded. People don't realize that the "other side" is gassing and doing all manor of weirdness once that hot weld hits whatever is there -- and that will really mess with your quality!
CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN to welding (along with fit up) ---- is like LOCATION is to real estate.
Let's see if you can weld that gap!

Greg actually if yo look at the picture I have to bring that piece inword that I have my hand on. If you look at the scuff you'll see how far it has to go in,,,

Holy shiat that looks like an inch or two towards the bottom. A bit of reshaping. Its just the begining the repro stuff is brutal, everything has to be masaged. The one that got me was the repro tail pan, had to re-cut the radiuses on the marquez aluminum housings to fit the openings. Your doing a great job, keep at it.

Brutal is a understatement Rich !!! NOTHING fits this is why I have to get a handle on this welding thing..
Well guys it don't look like much but after three sets of outter wheel houses I finally got this welding thing down. No more swiss cheese weak welds. I can actually hammer and dowl without cracking the metal. I feel comfortable moving forward now. I was'nt going any further untill I got this process down. Now time to break out my new Tig..:_paranoid

It looks good coming together nice now.
The wheel tubs are done and fitted . So with that finished I can finally move on to the final fit for the quarter panels. And as you would guess they to fit like SH^T, surprise!!!! I don't even know where to start, the tail panel area is'nt even close, the front door jamb area at the bottom is about 1/4 inch past the rocker, it has to be cut and pulled back in,it just does'nt end!! But it is starting to look like a car again SLOWLY....

Don't get to rested we have mor fitting to do!!!:D
Small update... As you can see not a whole lot completed on the car. Mike Kelly and I have been working our tales off just getting the aftermarket parts fitted and its been a slow process to say the leasts . So this leads me to a slight redirection on the project. Time to work on the car has become a major issue , 90 to 100 hour work weeks and only working on the car on Sundays isn't cutting it any more. Also tring to learn tig welding has slowed everything to a stand still. I look at the work ahead of me and I have to figure out how to get it moving a little faster. So I e-mailed Troy at BBT fabrications to see if he would be interested in doing the final gapping and a few other things I want to get done. This will allow me to finish getting the car fitted and welded withot worring about what I'm going to destroy doing the final detail work. I went through 3 sets of outter wheel houses just to weld two straight lines ! I can't do this when I have the quarter panels welded up! I'll go broke buying new quarters!!! I'm not happy about this but I fell this is my best option to keep everthing moving forword..

 Rick ..... Progress is painfully slow. Mike Kelly and I are slowly getting things done though.. The last quater panel gets glued and resistence welded tomorrow and that will complete the quarter install. It seems like it took forever to get these quarter panels on,we must of had them on and off the car at least 30 times each side! Things will go a little faster now that this is done, I hope.. :D The car was to be at BBT at the end of July but that obviously didn't happen. Plus a part issue also help delay that. You have no idea how much Im looking forward to getting it to Troy. The more I think about it the more I think its the right decision.I'm still at a 100 hour work week, shop has been crazy busy and I couldn't be happier!! Ryan. I had a real hard time with it at first. I just don't have enough hours in the day to learn the fab skills needed to do the job right. And thats the tig welding end . Everthing I have ever done I tought my self . From painting (witch is my favorite) frame, mechanical I never had one class. My first class ever would have been at IRON WORKS for the tig welding but it just didn't work out. But even if IRON WORKS did have the class and got me up to speed it still comes down to TIME. BBT is going to keep things going forward and get me closer to completeing this project.

Congrats Mario---glad to see progress being made. I think Todd may have been worried for a minute there about your 572 having more power than his 540. He already has some "Iron Works Cubic Inch Spray" on order--- Weld also ordered a case since 302 inches is bound to create some motor envy as well.

Mario- Thank you for delivering my LS engines .. It worked out for both of us.. you wanting the 572 & me wanting the LS7.. I just feel bad that the boys had an accident @ the end of their trip..
Look forward to doing some more business with you & thank you for the props..
Well I took on a new bodyman and its allowing me time to get back on my car. I started the final body panel fitting to get everthing as close as I can for Troy to start gapping the car. And let me tell you Troy has his work cut out for him. As I said a million times before, this aftermarket stuff is absolute garbage and I'll keep saying it until this car is done!!!! I'll have to order about two 55 gallon drums of gap spray from Ironworks just to get the back half of this car done!! Take a look at these pictures and you'll see what I mean . And keep in mind this is about a day and a half of work to just get these gaps this close.. Picture 4 the bottom of the door overlaps the quarter about a 1/8 inch:wow: FUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!

I don't no about perfection.. Mike and I are just tring to do everything right.I never had a car takin down this far, its been one huge learning experience thats for sure!!!!! This car will not be the caliber of Jasons car (WAR) I can tell you that. I'm just want the car to be clean and simple well detailed and well built thats my goal..

I here ya Greg. Sometimes you just have to make sure your cutting and sawing the right things off, not to creat more work for yourself. I have to take about a inch off the front of the rockers on each side . But before I did that I spent about two hours moving the doors around just to make sure that I wasn't making a mistake doing it. It's like one big chess game. If you make one move you have to look at everthing to make sure your not effecting something else..
Well I finally got the front end mounted !:willy: And as you might guess it was another battle. The right fender went on prtty much no problem . The left side was another story the front edge of the fender had a severe drop. After a couple of days I finally MADE it sit right! It's still not 100% but Troy will have no problem adjust the little more thats needed . I also will have to make new rocker panels . The aftermarket ones I installed are a complete disaster. But It does feel good to see it on four wheels thats for sure! I still have a long way to go but it has come a long way... I had a very interesting conversation with Cris (JCG) yesterday and he almost had me talked into a new direction with this project. I thought long and hard and I'm going to stay the course with this build but its still going to have alot of JCG influence I can tell you that!! 50 degress today felt good to get it out side!!

Mario, looks good! These aftermarket panels will fight us all the way. How did you fix the drooping fender?
Ron I had to take about 7/16 of an inch out of the corner of the core support . That was the hieght difference from side to side , It made it better but still wasn't where it needed to be . So after about the 20th time taking it on and off the light bulb went off, hey dummy install the extensions and the lower valance!! It pushed it up the little extra It needed . Its just a tiny bit off now but Troy has to cut and slice the area any way for all the header and hood gaps. Then it will be perfect... I work with 3mm cars all day you can't cheat these cars. I get caught up doing the same with this car only thing is close enough was good enough for these cars back then and if it was't good shim it till it was!
AWESOME to see it outside !!!!

Awesome work
Hood alignment 101!!! Last Sunday Mike and I installed my Fesler hood hinges to do the final alignment and square up the front end. After getting everything square, and the hood flush with the fenders I noticed that the back of the hood along the cowl was to high. So after some time tring to adjust the hood to get it flush I finally came to the conclusion that the hood was bowed ! I figured I would have to take the inner stucture out and push the rear of the hood down and reweld it. Naaaaaa!! Hey lets take the hood off and set a wood block in each corner and push down on each corner of the cowl scoop and see what happens .:_paranoid It friggin worked!!!:willy: We set the hood back on the car it was perfect!! Love my aftermarket parts!!!!!! Getting closer to BBT!!!!!

More little things are getting finalized on the car. Mike and I welded in the trunk hinge supports yesterday and it went pretty smooth. It still amazes me how something so easy can still take time to finish. So after we finished I wanted to figure out how my MCC tail panel was going to sit on the car . I had to put the tires in the wells to get the full affect. Needless to say I was happy with the look of the center exhaust. I was a little worried the holes were to small but once it was on it looked just fine. Not sure yet on how its going to be mounted, I'll get Troy's input when I bring it down to him in a couple of weeks..

Well Saturday we made the trip out to Troys (BBT Fabrication) to have him do the ''gapping'' and the new rockers on the car (yes my '' NEW '' rockers are junk) we need to replace them.. So......... This was the plan, very simple just a hand full of things for Troy to take care of. Not! I'll start the rest of this by saying never bring you nephew and friends with you when you do something like this they are inablers and very good at spending your money!!! Now for the rest of the story. Things changed in a hurry once we arrived at Troys. I did have to tell him after a conversation with Jason (WAR) that my front fenders will have to be modified to accomadate my 285/30/19's then it went out of control after that. Troy had ENCORE the 69 Firebird project he's doing next to my car . So you know what happens next. Lets just say that I'll have a couple of Encores styling ques going on my car. And now heres the rest of the list ,12 point roll cage, rear valance, tucked bumpers, DSEsubframe connecters, custom headliner, custom spoiler ,custom core support and one real cool idea Troy wants me to hold off on! :faint: The simple little trip for some simple fab work came to this!!!! At first I had a hard time with this but after talking with Troy I think I'm in good hands!. Once he gets going I told him to post the progress pictures.I'm all in now.:D

The trip was good and the Guys at BBT Fab are some of the most hospitable people I've meet. I put them right up there with the Ring Brothers.
As for the little nudge-nudge Mario that's what friends are for and the "Top Secret Rocker" Mods are going to look awesome. Now I just have to get Troy to make a set for my "Bolt-Together" Camaro so I can say it has some custom fab work done to it.

Next thing I did was remove e coat to have a more visible look at the gap, then re installed the fender and this was what I got with just adjustments. So you can see the bracket was holding us up alot!! Gaps not great but something we could work with.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/troygudgel/DSC_0156.jpg
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/troygudgel/DSC_0153.jpg
As you can se the bottom was not fitting the contour of the car at all so a little cutting and bending was needed and after some edge grinding and re welding its got a good gap. And the final task re install that bracket that held us up in the begining.

A quick story. I called Troy a couple of days ago after looking at the Goolsby Lokar Camaro and told him I had to have that rear bumper. As always with Troy, not a problem he already had the bumper and pockets cut but could change it. But he would not do the bumper until he contacted Josh and asked if it was going to be a problem duplicating the rear bumper. Goolsby had no problem with it at all, even told Troy if he needed any info on how it should be done just give them a shout. Now to me thats CLASS! And personaly I think thats how it should be done. It would stop alot of the drama in my opinion. So after Troy sent the update I saw what was done and desided to leave it alone I like it! For me its looks awesome this way. Nice and simple.:D :lateral:
