Tony's Camaro made it to the shop at 6:30. We gave it a quick wash, and shot some pics.....Overall the car doesn't look too bad. It's in all the areas where a lot of people neglect when doing them over, like in the jams back of fenders ect... that needs the most work.

pete, not bad, you will have that fixed in no time.
by the looks, with some more prep and better taping, the old painter would of probably made the owner happy.
it is easy to paint a car assembled, but the job is not nearly as nice and detailed as when its blown apart for panel painting, which as you can see hear killed the other guy. man those spots probably look horrid with the shiny paint close by.
that door jamb made me dry heave

LOL!
Good thing you didn't see the seam sealer! Might need a breath mint and a shoe shine!!
in this particular case, will you still need to take the whole car apart and start over or is some things (the other painter did) thats salvageable?
Just curious.

This car will come completely apart and be prepped properly. Then it will be painted with the trunk and nose off the car in pieces. Then assembled.

Looks like it mostly fails in the details department.. much dirt in the paint? Fish eyes?
Gaps?
We need a report man! lol

09-29-2008, 06:58 PM
The paint job overall isn't that bad. Needs more wet sanding and buffing. The jam areas are so bad that it would require a complete paint job to fix them properly. The gaps aren't bad, the hood to cowl area was the worst.

Looks like the difference between a $5k and $15k paint job. Easy to put on aftermarket parts not so easy to make them look OEM. Hate to say it but there are tons of cars out there with the same job passing off for show cars.
Problem is where do you stop in correction now that your name is on it?? Sure it will look killer when done.
Good luck!!

There is no way that car was in his garage at home while he was working on it. That thing was left outside long enough to get the wierd looking stains in the clear and the start of a bees nest.
Now that the car is being pulled apart it looks alot worse.
I just get mad seeing this type of stuff.
Got to give it to Tony to stay optomistic thru his whole ordeal. I kept telling him to get his car back and that he wasn't going to get it right the second time. Tony just kept saying " he'll make it right and fix it."
Tony really trusted the guy and thought he was a friend.

That looks incredible! I love it. Ofcourse I'm a little bias. I had a 68 that was Ferrari Titanium. I don't know if it's the same color but it's close. I don't think I've ever posted a pic of that car since I don't own it anymore but here you go. Unfortunately these pics don't do the color any justice. I had a new front spoiler and then sold it to a member here. I really like the 67-8's without a front bumper and spoiler....think Red Witch! Ultra clean! Honestly without the bumper I think the spoiler looks a little weird/out of place. But I am leaving the mounting holes and it is an affordable test to do once the car is finished....I'm sure I will try one on and see what it looks like. ;)

The factory ones are cheap.. $25 each.. I've broken two so far. Well, actually Bret broke one of them. lol
My new policy is to run the el cheapo on at auto-x events or no spoiler. One thing it does really well is keep bugs from squishing on the suspension. Without a front spoiler I have to go under the car and wash all the dead bugs off of my control arms, rack and such. It's a PITA.
Sometimes no front spoiler will give the illusion that the front of the car is higher than it really is.
Here's a picture with no front spoiler...

There really isn't much to see at this stage, we're just sanding parts and getting them ready for next week, when we'll be documenting the repair areas with Chuck Vranas for Camaro Performer, and I'll post some pics of the repairs then. Progress is good!! Man I'm glad to see the seam sealer totally gone! Guys, you wouldn't believe how full the joints were on the car! Chris told me that it 'expanded over night'...but the real question is, why he would paint the car after seeing how bad the sealer job was the next day? There was no better time to fix it...hell it's not like he was in a hurry he had the car for 5 months! I'm thinking that he didn't really dig out the first sealer that failed (like he promised he would do and says he did), but just ran the new sealer over the old and that's why EVERY joint was filled.
Pete, I'm sure that digging out all the sealer wasn't a real fun job, thanks for doing it though!!

Not quite a scuff and shoot,we'll be stripping most of the jams and doing some repairs on the body. We'll show as we get there (next week) after repaired we reassemble and finish blocking the car together, then we'll take it apart for paint.
I don't think we have to get into stripping the whole body just lots of blocking and prep

She's been a big help....especially during the times when I just wanted to throw in the towel! Having an understanding car loving wife sure makes this hobby easier!!

I'm surpised you arent stripping it down more....
When I went to pick up my car (yes Chris ****ed up my car too....but not as bad...mines still in metal thank god), he mentioned something about rust bubbles on the deck lid. If theres rust bubbles on the deck lid, I'd be worried that theres hidden rust waiting to bubble somewhere else..... I'm sure Pete is looking for stuff like that but..... Chris told me he fixed it, but you know how the other "fixes" worked....
Tony....call me.... I know we played phone tag for a while and I keep meaning to call you but can never find the right time....
Then we can meet up at SEMA and have a few beers.....

Ned, I'm sure you're not trying to cause trouble.
Tonys car was sent here to be repaired. As of right now all we got to really get into was taking it apart and looking over what was done.
As I mentioned, next week we'll be documenting the repairs with Chuck Vranas for Camaro Performer.
We are known for our paint work and as we are repairing Tonys car, at any time I feel that a panel or a spot should be stripped there will be no short cuts and it will be stripped. There are some repairs that need to be taken care of that might require some of it to be stripped but, I won't know until I get into the repairs.
This is one of the reasons there are not many pictures up right now because, I don't want everybody to think that this is getting a "scuff and shoot". The people that checked out Tonys car know there is a little bit more to making his car right than a "scuff and shoot".
So follow along and watch the progress and then make your "judgement" on the outcome of the project. I know there's a lot of eyes on this car and a lot of people saying I would do this and he should do that but, the end result will speak for itself.

Sorry Pete, for not having your back!! I was out of town for a couple days and missed all of this!
Guys, Pete is a Pro and doesn't deserve any questioning! I shipped the car from coast to coast (litterly!) because I completely trust him to do the car. As he said, everything that needs to be done will be done to make the car right this time and that's good enough for me.
I know that a lot of people would just want to strip the car and start fresh...but to be honest so far we don't feel that that's needed. If Chris did anything right it probably was the body work. That was in the beginning of course when his heart was still fully in the project.
The car will be blocked like a mother to get a lot of the excess material off the car and that will of course straighten it even more. And the pics you are seeing this week is just the begining of that.
So lets let Pete and his guys do what's needed and enjoy the pics, repairs, and transformation of the build!
Pete, again I am so sorry that you felt questioned, you certainly don't deserve that!!
So we all good now? Go team!! :lateral:

I almost didn't go with that stripe but changed my mind at the last minute. I had purchased the stencel from Classic Industries with the intention of using it but told the guy to leave it off when I saw the car all in silver. Later that night I kept thinking that I might get bored with the car being only one color and regret that I didn't have that stripe on there. I called him the next day and told him to go ahead and put it on. I am so glad I did. I just think silver is one of those colors that "needs something" to break it up. Black and silver...how can you go wrong? Yours appears to be a shade darker than mine. Mine is 'Machine Silver Metallic' off the 2006 Corvette.
Should be sweet Anthony. Can't wait to see it.

Chuck was here today shooting pics of the repair areas for the Mag article. I figured I'd post some pics of whats going on....We did some repair areas for chuck and put some areas in primer. We'll finish repairing and periming the areas, then next week Chuck will come back and get some shots of re-seam sealing , and spraying some color around the hinge areas to re-assemble for final line up and block sanding. Then he'll be back after that to shoot the color going on the car.
