I don't normally reply with the "your car looks great" kind of comments, but I feel compelled to in this case.

That Ferrari does nothing for the color...compared to Karma! Ferrari had no idea they made that color specifically for the 1st gen Camaro!

Thank you very much for the kind words and it being your first post means even more!

How about the rest of the parts status while cut/polish is in progress. Do you have all the sub assemblies together ready to go - or do you need to plate/paint those and assemble up before install ? (motor in the sub frame already ? pics ??)

Jim

awr68
10-05-2009, 07:25 PM
Jim, the Speed Tech sub is painted, on the car, and aligned...but yet to be welded to the DSE SFC's...soon though. All the ST parts came powder painted so that is done and assembled.

I already had the bottom of the car painted as well as the rear suspension but that may need a little freshing up after all the work that has been done.

The motor and T56 are at my house and I will install them once the car returns home from it's walk about.

Pete is doing a lot to Karma, but isn't finishing the car to a turn key point.

Thanks again to all for your interest in our project!! :lateral:

Now the difficult question - how often do you stand there staring AND make the engine sounds .....

So what's the latest? :willy:

No real updates since paint.
I have a couple cars to finish up before I leave for SEMA.

I'm given the paint a little time to dry. Tony's to far away for something to show up and need a repair or if something dies down and shrinks alittle
(This will give the paint sometime to gas out before berrying more material on)

The next step will be putting the car together to do the stripes and then dissemble for a re clear.
I have decided when it's dissembled to re clear for the stripes I'd re clear the roof, rear qrts, and back of the car since we will be re clearing the doors, fenders, hood and header for the stripes anyways.
I thought I would step up and re clear the back also then the whole car will have been sanded and re cleared for a total of 8 coats 4 coats then sanded with 500 flat and 4 coats more on top. Then we will sand and buff

Anyone that knows paint knows that this will give a nicer surface to lay the final clear down and no (less) die back.

I have put a ton of hours into this and this is the last step and most important.
I hope everyone understands this was a complete redo for Tony and I'm finishing it up in the best time I can without any charge on the project.
I put my own projects on hold for this car and I'm very exited to see it finished as much or more then the rest of you. We are coming to the end real soon.
Thanks everyone

Greg, the car isn't going to make SEMA this year....so you will have to stop by my place when the time comes.

Just a reminder, Pete is doing a TON to the car...but he isn't 'finishing' the car. The drive train, most interior, ect are still at my house. I and some friends (actually a few members here!) will assemble the car when it makes it's way home. When will that be...we don't know yet, we have never been on a schedule. Haven't been on this post for a while. Pete are you going to Carlisle this year? Tony, still thinking about coming out but you know the drill, it depends on the Job situation. I'm enjoying the time off my car and trying to take advantage of it.
Though of you today. my son is joining cub scouts next week and he ask me about camping out over night, of course I said. as soon as we get the RV out! no tents for dad. Goint to look into a Large Pop up. Anyway, just thought I'd drop by to see how the car is coming. Looking great guys.

Last I heard it was ready for the final round of paint....just waiting for the booth to be available for a few days in a row. Pete has had his guys block out all the clear, re-assemble the car to mask off the SS stripe, and they have spent many hours sanding all the little nooks and crannies on the bottom of the car, engine bay, and trunk....basically all the parts of the car that go GM satin black.

Pete and crew have put an insane amount of time into the project and are getting very close to the final paint and polish! :D

My car originally left two years ago on June 13th... I know it's been a long road for you my friend but it will all be worth it in the end! Just think about when you get it back from paint... how it's going to feel going out into the garage and seeing that perfect body and paint!! Think about how it's going to feel when you can open the garage door, ease into the seat, turn the key and idle it out of the driveway just before you NAIL IT!! :unibrow: Yeah, it will definately be worth the wait my friend!!!

It's not uncommon for a person to paint a car in this manner then call it good. We are putting a transmission in a chevelle with the same type of job, however this one has a ton of bondo on it.QUOTE=Stuart Adams;168984]Wow, for some person to say I painted that is beyond me. Pete didn't quote, bid, or estimate this job....simply offered to fix the car if I could get it to him....no matter what it took to 'make it right'. Thanks to many generous members and sponsors here I was able to ship Pete the car. And a special thanks to Camaro Performers for using the car for tech articles...that got Pete (comp-spec) a lot of press...and he deserves every bit of it! He's a great person and friend and I can never thank him and his team enough! And let's not forget about Mario....what a saint and great friend he is! Wow! not sure I understand what your saying however, I was actually coming to the guys defense on who is doing the job. rather he is doing the job on his nickle or not I don't care. A person doesn't get to that level doing poor quality of work and I'm quite sure he nows what he is doing and doesn't need others telling him how to do the work and I'm also sure his quality of work will not chang with the price. Looks like my orignal post has lost its way some how.

Greycamaro....

I read all the posts you added to this thread -- and I have no clue what you're talking about - or referring to - or what it is you're trying to add to this thread. I don't think anyone else here does either.

Have you actually read this thread? Do you understand that this car was done poorly - by a different shop (not Comp-Spec)... and that Comp-Spec took on the job of making it right (nobody cares what the arrangement is or isn't - doesn't matter to anyone except the car owner and the shop owner - we don't discuss that kind of stuff here).

Maybe back up and start over - and let us all know what you're trying to say - you've piqued my interest now..

yes, i have read the whole thread and do know that a chop shop did the prior work. I'll look for the post i was refering to(SEE POST 191), however someone stated that it looks like the car needs sanded to metal and I was stating that (whoever is doing the work now) he will know what to do to the car as he has the car in front of him, pictures don't always tell the story. His quality was not lowered to do the job.

As far as the arrangements I'm not interested in that area.QUOTE=GregWeld;292983]Greycamaro....

Alex -- no harm no foul...

YES -- if you're new to LAT-G (or any forum for that matter) dates matter - especially if you're cruising around reading and then posting. Note this particular thread dates back a long time! It's the Eveready bunny thread... it keeps going and going and going... It started when the car arrived at Comp-Spec in SEPTEMBER 2008.... and the story of how it got there is even older!

I planned on getting down there this past week, but a couple of bridges on Interstate Route 93 had huge holes appearing in the roadway, and traffic that side of Boston (which I have to drive through) was impossible. It was even making the secondary roads almost unpassable with gridlock also.

Hopefully that stuff is all fixed this week so I can make it down there. Maybe even on Monday or Tuesday
