Thanks Mills. Front brakes need to be upgraded. There just isn't enough stopping power with the 295 R6's. Power steering pump isn't working. I am sore this morning from muscling the car around yesterday. Other than that the car sticks but the driver needs to relearn Sonoma. I left after the 3rd session and still had the fastest time in TT1 but that's not saying much.....there was only 3 of us in that group.

True, I remember when I used to be all the way to the outside of two and slightly sideways there at least a couple of the laps out of the session.
Trust me when I tell you I felt like a total retard out there this last time out. Trying to pin point the issue. Getting used to the 295 Hoosiers up front is one of them in conjunction with my power steering pump going out.
Tire probe temps are telling me I need to change my alignment.
My last and final excuse is wheel time. Last time I was out at that track was 8 years ago. I thought I was going to be able to jump back on the horse and ride like nobody's business. Not even close.
What I do know is that I will be spending alot more time out at sonoma so I can get back into the groove.
BTW...it was great to put a face to the name. See ya' soon

Thanks for the compliment Bob. Like I mentioned above....wheel time, wheel time. Car feels way different with the bigger, stickier tires up front. The steering is heavier but that feeling could be from the pump.
Regardless, I'll figure it out.

Yes wheel time in the car is what makes
us faster and more confident. I can jump
in the Pantera and run any track as it has
been the same for about 6 years (except the
200 tires I had to put on it for Optima)
My firebird has been down for many years and
before I could drive the wheels off that car
I have changed so many things it is hard to
get used to it (plus I am still changing things-
new springs just showed up today)
Get it set and then start relearning the car
I told one of my buddies that just started out
it takes time but eventually you and the car
become one.. that is what we strive for
I think our problem now is we have so many things
we can adjust that it takes a while to figure out
what works and what does not
Back in the day I drove my firebird with springs too
soft the ball joints almost falling off but boy could
I drive that car
Keep at it as the track times are the best

One of the major reasons I don't keep lap times and stuff..... We just don't get enough seat time. It's like expecting to play par golf when you play twice a year. Just play and enjoy the day. Just drive the course and stay on track and have fun.

Actually spending this weekend digging footings for a detached garage/shop on my property. Thank you for the compliment on the car. The car is never done. Haven't heard from Joe about heads ands cam but as soon as the shop is complete I'll install the Wilson intake and most likely hold off on heads and cam. The detached garage/shop will be done end of the first week of November. today roof got loaded with roof tiles, I framed the bathroom, painted the fascia, completed rough electrical and the panel is now hot. Gutters getting installed tomorrow. I'll post some pics in a bit.

Forgot to buy pics so I didnt post. You know how much we all like pics.
Overall impression of the new back side....loved it. Car handled extremely well. Truly hard to believe with just a 40 year old subframe, Global West arms and leaf springs.
Apparently nobody around here believes it either. But fact is I never got passed and all I did was pass......new Mustangs, Vettes, etc. Probably had alot to do with the experience and confidence level of the other drivers but either way my car sticks like glue front and rear and is a pleasure to drive around a road course.
Alot more wheel time is needed in order for me to find the limits because I just dont have the balls right now to push it that hard.
Thinking of you today.......

I think the simple answer is Mahle realizes there is an oil control issue and a narrower ring set was the solution. Also tighter piston to wall clearances .003" to overcome the wear associated with the stroke dimensions.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and don't get caught up in what times someone else is running.... These cars are ALL different -- different power - different weight - different gearing - different size and compounds of tires (for instance I run a Hoosier A7 - whereas Gae runs the R6).... Different suspensions - Different SKILL levels.
Figure if you can run Thunderhill EAST (the original) with the Cyclone at 2:10 you'll be running with the bulk of the "group"... Without the Cyclone (known as the Bypass) that's a 2:06.
The Lotus is going to run that sub 2's --- and there's no way our old crap is going to get there without MAJOR suspension changes - and weight loss - and horsepower increases. Or MAJOR skill improvements. Best and cheapest fix for the car, is the nut behind the wheel.

Very frustrating because my car is finally where I want it handlng wise now and the only excuse behind low lap times now will be on the driver.
Was talking to Weld the other day about starting a track day fund.......set aside a fixed amount of money each month so I can at least make 3 track days a year starting next season.

That was a short introduction of what I've been up to and there's been a lot I left out including some cool vehicles I have picked up for my kids but what I think some of you guys might be more interested is the new brake set up I'm working on for the race/track car.
As you know Baer and Wilwood have some great bolt on brake kits for stock spindles but those systems will not be enough for my set up. I went through Sutton but he had nothing available for 17" wheels and stock spindles so I started to do my home work.
The bolt on systems I came across all had a max piston bore area of 4.04" even with their 6 piston kits. IMO not near enough for what I needed. I noticed wildwood had a 4 piston caliper with a 5.18 piston bore area. I gave them a call and we went to work on putting together a system that would work for me. A difficult task? Not even.
The radial mount bracket is the same they use for their typical kit applications only difference being the width of the roter. Bolt on kits have a 1.1" rotor to where the bigger piston bore area calipers have a 1.25" mimimum rotor thickness. That's just .14" of difference.
In short, front calipers should be here by Monday. I ordered the whole 9 yards with hubs, bearings, seals, hats, rotors, etc, etc.
Stay tuned if your interested as I will document the install. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that just a few shims will make this a simple bolt on process.

Does the lack of track car in this thread these days mean we can also start whining in this thread now?
Its cold lately in SoCal and water keeps falling out of the sky. I might drop down from a 3 events per month average to two...
I think Gaetano is scared of something.

Once this brake deal gets sorted out I think a traditional Buttonwillow track day would be in order.
Oh, and can somebody please tell Todd that his kids left his boat out on the beach again

So I have been through the first 12 pages and I cant seem to find what wheel sizes your running on the TT2's. I know they were 17's but the width front and back with BS would be sweet if you can remember. Love the way those wheels look on your car.

I kept it under wraps. I was told by Ron I was getting shocks with a base valve and wouldn't need more than 10 psi of nitrogen.
Well, I have known Mike alot longer than Ron and he is the guy that does all of Rons shock valving. After loosing a shock I went straight to Mike. He repaired the shock then dyno'd it in front of me. Told me the shock had no base valve and needed 100 psi of nitrogen.
If y'all have never seen a shock get dynoed I recommend it.
At 10 lbs of nitrogen the piston in the shock was cavitating and u could even see it in the hose to the canister. The hose would jump.
This is what started the seperation of friendship between Greg and I as he wouldn't believe me that Ron made a mistake and took this info to Ron before I had a chance to talk to Ron about it.
Long story short, Greg and I have buried the hatchet and I'm glad to have him back. Weve had some great times and laughs.
Looking forward to to getting back to it
