Just before I lifted, I glanced down and saw 132 mph. Scared me a little, but the Blonde sitting in the passenger seat seemed just fine with it. :lostmarbles: I kept it under 120 the rest of the trip.

Just wondering how the car felt at those speeds? Did you experience the front end float at all?

Having a group to do that with is pretty awesome. I have a few car guys around me that are into these detailed builds, but nothing like the groups you are finding. Unfortunately the car scene around here kinda sucks. Gonna make my car REALLY stand out lol

Very stable. I've hit 120 a few times on this super sweet section of the freeway not to far from my house. The only difference I could tell was the roughness of the road. No floating that I noticed. I won't be doing it again though. :hello:

You have no idea how much attention the car gets because of your work. It's silly. Posters will be in the mail once things calm down. :captain:

It’s good to see you out enjoying the fruit of your labor!

That's what it's all about.

Great Pics....

and little blurbs about the shows, 132, nice speed,

:twak: Won't be doing it again, but i will say that it's nice to know everything is solid enough to go 132. Keep in mind, this is the first engine I've ever built. I had a great teacher watching me like a hawk though. Jeff is really to blame... or I mean give credit to.

Start a group! Seems like a lot of people are looking for more than just a show and shine to attend. It's a all about the ride. :captain:

Tried to get out and take advantage of the empty streets. Depressing to see how many barricades have gone up and how dark the strip is. Really weird to drive by and see the major casinos with little to no lights on. I was kind of surprised at how dark some sections of the strip really are. Social Distancing is here for the foreseeable future. Going to be an interesting summer.

Seeing the Vegas strip that deserted would almost be picturesque in and of itself. I was out there a total of 10 days last month..once for the wife’s medical convention and once for CONEXPO for my job. Pretty sure I took 10 years off my life but I managed to dodge the sickness both times, however, on her trip, a bunch of people we knew got ill within a few days of being home and CONEXPO was right before they shut things down.

I've been out at what should be the peak of rush hour traffic and the roads are open. It's one of the pluses I suppose. Won't lie, it's going to suck going back to "the norm".

Vegas takes a lot out of people during a regular visit. Sounds like you got out right before they shut things down. Locals are cruising the strip in their cars for something to do. Wish they would shut it down and pave it while we have the time.

Being smart about is the key. Nothing says we can't get out and enjoy life, just not in the ways we have been. It's going to be an interesting year and my guess is that things will come back but slowly. I view it as a dimmer switch slowly turning the lights up. If the roads are clear, I say go for it. Beware of cold tires though, that can be like ice.

Did that yesterday in 2nd with the TA and thought to myself "Self, 500hp was more than enough".

Did you intentionally frame the marque in the back ground of the first picture to show Old School is Back?

There are times I would like more, but I don't really need it... but I want it.

Not to pre COVID levels. Not everything is open and what is, isn't 100% open. There's rumor that some of the casinos may shut down mid week during the holiday season. Crime is up though! Cheap flights and hotel rooms have attracted the types we all would rather not have around.

Didn't even notice the marque till I looked at the pic later. Security wasn't to hip on my parking there.

Love that first pic!!

Thanks. Lucky to have made it in there. That lighting really makes the car pop.

Cruised down to Scottsdale for the GoodGuys show with LuLu, Basher and Jack a few weekends ago. The event was limited to 2000 cars and 6000 people and of course masks where required even when outdoors this year. Vendor turn out was low, but the autocross was full tilt and the event was busy none the less.

Meet the gang at the Cosmo. Jack (Bashers kid) jumped in with me we headed out. Tried to cross into AZ via the Hoover Dam, but apparently that's a no go these days. We had to double back, but it was all good.

After a quick lunch stop at In & Out in Kingman, Jack and I decided to drop the hammer (with Dads approveal) so we could make an on time arrival at the Weld Res and meetup with the car wash guys. Jack waved "BYE" and we where Mad Maxing it across the desert. We averaged between 95 and 110 the entire way. Top speed was 125mph more than a few times. Drive time was about 3hrs 15min with a quick gas stop. Jack was the perfect co-pilot, made sure we stayed on course and gave call outs for upcoming route changes.

You gotta love an open highway.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-sqKGprF/0/cb4eefcc/L/i-sqKGprF-L.jpg

Of course we "sucked in " a lot of the slower traffic and would have to pass. Down shifting to 4th was like lighting the afterburner and we would rocket past everyone. It was very satisfying to say the least. Jack, who normally has the straight face of a professional poker player, even cracked a grin a few times.

We rolled into Gwen's place and they finished cleaning the car right as the light started to fade. Sunsets from the patio are incredible making it the perfect place to decompress.

Adrianne insisted we arrive early to get premium parking. Pretty sure we where in the top 20 arrivals. Of course she had to race someone off the stop light on the way over. Basher and I had a front row seat for this and got a good laugh out of it. She won. Sunrise was amazing and almost makes me want to me a morning person. Almost.

The drive home was very relaxing (I still did 110 as much as possible) and it was great to reflect on how blessed I am to have so many amazing friends. Gwen was an awesome host and she's just fun to be around. Adrianne, Basher/Jack, Jack, Blake, Noel and all the rest are perfect to kick around an event with. I am very much so looking forward to the next one.

Turned the OD over the 10k mark as I pulled into Vegas. If you remember the car left here last year with 200 miles on it after MuscleRodz got it road worthy. Not a bad year!

At the end of my last post I stated it was time to address a few things. Honestly there are things that are over due. The car is so much fun to drive, even with the issues and it was hard for me to take it off the road. I am very thankful to have been able to drive it this past summer with all the restrictions and COVID B.S.

A couple of months ago I called Chris Holstrom and asked if he would be willing to take the car in and address a few pesky issues, rework a couple of things I decided I wanted changed and button up a few small items. Chris was very receptive and setup a conference call with him and his shop manager. During the call we talked through every little item on my list, my expectations, time frame, etc. It wasn't a "yeah, yeah, yeah" kind of call either. They actually talked options and approach on every items with me. They took the time to explain how they approach any build, the documentation process, billing, etc. It was much more professional than I have experienced anywhere and extremely impressive! With a tentative delivery date of just before Christmas and an expectation that the car wouldn't be started on until after the new year, I arranged for Transport.

During my visit to Scottsdale I learned that Gwen Weld had sold her home there and was returning to the Seattle area and just happened to be moving about the same time as my car was headed that way. Oddly, the transporter lives in Scottsdale and was able to not only move Gregs truck and Gwens car, but also all of her house hold goods. JRods is storing Gregs truck and the car for Gwen till she is unpacked and ready for them. That was perfect as the driver needed to pick up a Mustang at JRods and haul it back to AZ. Kinda weird... even stranger was getting a text from Craig Morrison (who recommended the driver) saying he had just spent a long weekend at the cabin and upon reaching the first stop light on his way home... looked over and was next to the truck hauling all the cars and Gwens stuff. Crazy. :lostmarbles: I'm taking it all as good sign that the lotto tickets I bought on the way back from Scottsdale are going to be a big winner. LMAO

One thing that wasn't on my list was a new Transmission. A few weeks ago while "driving" on the freeway next to a Mercedes AMX GT-R at 130 mph, "in Mexico" (I won) the rear seal decided to give up the ghost. It wasn't gushing gushing thankfully and I hadn't noticed anything wrong until I exited the freeway and spotted a bit of smoke coming out from under the hood. Figured she may have puked a little oil out of the breather tank and pulled over to check. I was and wasn't surprised to find that one of the fitting on lines to the AC compressor had broken and the hose was against the header. No big, those where on the list of things for CHC to address anyways. I secured the hose, mopped up the AC oil best I could and pressed on to meet friends for lunch. Still had a little smoke coming out the back of the car, but figured it was residue burning off. Hitting the freeway on the return trip and shifting into 5th resulted in a crazy vibration. I slowed and pulled off at the next exit expecting to find something stuck in a rear tire. Instead I found the rear of the car covered in transmission fluid. I limped a few blocks home at a 20 mph, cleaned her up and got her up on jack stands.

Thankfully the bottom of the car is coated with UPOL Raptor and all the rear end/suspension parts are powder coated. This made clean up easy. A bit of simple green and a mountain of rags did the job. The Ricks Stainless tank took a bit more work, but it wasn't bad.

With the car set to leave for CHC i was pressed to get it fixed and started looking at how to address the issue. Jody pointed out that the rear seal is a known defect and that basically the fluid get trapped in the tail housing and builds pressure till the seal pops. There is a fix and it's possible the tail housing would be covered under a recall, but that would take time. After adding up all the possible costs, time, etc. the smart money seemed to be upgrading to the new T56 Magnum-F. It's a direct replacement for my old school T56, so no shifter relocation or cutting required. Plus it will hold a lot more TQ and it should shift a lot nicer from what I've heard. I called the guys over at American Powertrain and had them ship one to CHC. Great guys. Helpful and easy to deal with. The new trans arrived yesterday, which is the day after the car arrived.

I didn't expect any work to start until after the new year, but CHC jump right on it today and made quick work of swapping out the transmission. Chris was nice enough to send photos.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-g8wWL4S/0/00c00059/XL/i-g8wWL4S-XL.jpg (https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-z5Q52/i-g8wWL4S/A)

It's a bummer having to swap the trans, but I have to say that working with American Powertrain and Chris Holstroms has made what could have been a major thorn, painless.

There will be more to come.

Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas!! :captain:

Your seal didn't let loose. Your tail shaft bearing moved. That's the dull gray part sitting between your slip yoke and the seal.

Regardless, the car's in good hands. Hope it returns to you very soon.

Thanks for the correction Trey. Shouldn’t be an issue with the new Magnum.

I believe this is the walk condition that the no walk bearings are supposed to prevent. I really don't know much about it though as it's never been a problem I've encountered.

What are you going to do with this T56?

I’ll have to read up on that as I’ve never heard of it. Learning a lot about transmissions these days.

I’ll sell it as is. It’s not a total lose.

It’s a 2.66... same as the old one. It’s worked well and I didn’t feel any need to change it. What are you running?

2.29 but had 6th gear swapped for a .58 among some other internal upgrades so it can still run in the low 2k rpm's 70-80 mph with 3.73 gears. Gearing is setup exactly like the 6th gen ZL1 basically. if the motor isn't happy with 3.73's I may go 3.90.

Smart combo and approach. 3.73's should work, let me know what you think once you've run it for awhile. Making a lot of notes for my next build.

Steve.. Just looked through 1224 photos of the car on my IPad and the ones on page 107 are probably the best of the lot. Everything being black make it all kinda blend. I’ll look on my LapTop this weekend and see if there’s something better. I’d guess it’s roughly 1.5”-ish. Sorry I can’t take a better pic for you at the moment.

Dropped an Airplane off at WA Pane field for some heavy maintenance on Monday. Rather than jumping on the first commercial flight home, I grabbed a rental and headed down to Christ Holstrom Concepts. Got a tour of the shop, meet more of the crew and a detailed briefing on all that's been addressed on my car. Adrianne Weld showed up in the 40 along with Basher as did my buddy Tom who lives in the local area. The weather was awesome so we headed out for a bit of fun. Fist stop was Griots Garage and then over to AME for few. It was a fantastic day for a shake down run! There's not a lot of smooth, flat road there, but we managed to find a section that allowed me to hit 115 mph and check the vibration issue (which is gone).

The new T56 Magnum-F shifts super smooth and I was surprised at the reduced throw. Getting into reverse takes a bit more muscle, but it's not as long of a stretch. Very pleased.

The new accessory drive from Holley made a huge improvement on the over all look under the hood, but it also made other not so great looking items stand out. I decided to make a few more changes to address that and over all it's an improvement. Perfect... no, but it doesn't suck by any means. Yeah.... I'm OCD.

Here's a BEFORE pic. It's a decent setup, but the more I looked at it, the more it reminded me of Tow Mirrors on an F-350.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-WVdXNmb/0/78cc9edb/L/i-WVdXNmb-L.jpg

The new Mid Mount Setup and routing of the AC hoses was an improvement, but things seemed cluttered to me.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-QMXXw79/0/bdc3b5d3/L/i-QMXXw79-L.jpg

I pushed the EASY button and bought valve covers and billet fuel rails from Holley and swapped the brake master for a black one. CHC added the stainless hardware, made up the cross over and cleaned up the wiring a little. Should have gone this route in the first place. That white plug is being swapped out FYI.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-6X45HQ7/0/7b1b19cc/L/i-6X45HQ7-L.jpg

I have been very impressed with the level of customer service from CHC and plan to build another car with them. The quality of work is 100% and everything has been completed ahead of schedule.

The car is being picked up on 4/15 which means it will arrive just in time for LS Fest. After that it'll be photos and :animated_bye_bye_em

I am not. I’ve asked two different mechanics and both stated I don’t need one. I am certain there are those who will disagree and I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to do so. I’ll send a few pics when it gets home. Remind me if you don’t get them by the end of the month.

I was going through the Holley fuel rail installation manual/instructions, and noticed they recommend to install grounding straps ( one on each fuel rail). Would like to know if they are installed in yours after the upgrade to Holley Fuel rail. If so, would like to know please from where to get those grounding straps.

Thanks in advance

This build is just off the hook - it just keeps getting tweaked and tuned better and better all the time. Some will build it, just about pad lock the hood shut, then just "show and shine" them. Your build on the other hand is built like a weapon that is getting tweaked and updated all the time, and then actually driven the way it was built to be driven. With your access to air strips, have you thought about putting a helmet and flight suit on and seeing what it will comfortably run up to? Hell, it just about seems that you could take on a F22 Raptor based solely upon its looks. Hmmm, better not though, as that will likely lead to an upcoming supercharger update. The upgrades and changes have been awesome. Will it ever truly be done? Nope, as you and I share the same obsession's, chasing the impossible, and then making everything you can possible. The things you haven't yet been able to make possible? I know they will nag at you, but this thing is already so tastefully done and over the top that I know all future mods will be just a continuing evolution. What a sleek, sexy, and serious machine. Rumor has it your better half is the same way (!) This one you can keep tweaking though LOL. :underchair:

They're never really done. Lot of cars here being updated and driven. That's one of things I like about Lat-G... we use our cars. I don't have a free pass to airstrips and honestly going to the airport is like hanging out at work for me. I'm sure most would agree that when the week is over, they can't wait to get out of the office. I'm no different and I'm at the point where I'd rather drive when on vacation than fly. I am the worst passenger and hate sitting in the back of an airplane. I do appreciate the complements though. As for the "better half"... well, the Ex is a cute one.

car has come up great, did you stay with 305/30/19 rears?

Thank You. The crew at CHC has done an outstanding job.

I did stay with the 305/30/19 rears for a few reasons. Replacing the transmission wasn’t part of the original budget, The turn time would have delayed the car coming home by about 3 weeks and I am planning to list the car for sale when it gets home. CHC measured and I can fit up to a 325 on the rear and was able to test fit one. I have the measurements and if I can’t get what I want for the car, I’ll make the changes.

That’s the plan. I’d like to find something to keep me entertained during the build, but it’ll depend on what I can find that doesn’t need much.

Seriously though, the 67 turned out great so I'm sure the next one will too. Definitely keep us updated on what you end up building.

What a crazy day! When the listing FINALLY went up on BaT it jumped from an opening bid of $5k to $91967.00 over night and then sat there over the holiday weekend. Monday it went up to $93k and parked there for the remainder of the week. I had considered taking today off, but it didn't look like it was going to meet the reserve so I didn't call out. Work actually called and pushed my show time back to 3pm, which turned out to be a good thing. I was able to take a few calls on the car during the last 30 min, but still the bidding wasn't moving. The auction was set to expire at 1:05 and at 1pm bidding started, but very slow. Didn't look like it would go. I was talking to John on the phone and texting with Brycen when things started to take off. When it passed my reserve, I posted "Reserve Met" and that seemed to intensify the bidding. Probably not, but it seemed that way. Brycen asked what I really wanted for the car and I told him $150k, but I didn't think it would get there. Well.... I was wrong and happy to be so.

My ego wanted to beat the 68 that went for $130k, so that was a bonus.

It's a bitter sweet day and I will miss the car. It's a lot of fun to drive and I've had a great time with it.

Hummm. Ive been debating about building something else as well. That website has some great traction and it gives me a idea what my car is worth as well. Congrats

I watched a few auctions on BaT before signing up. Initially I was impressed but things quickly changed and they went silent. Emails, phone calls and messages via Social Media where ignored. I gave up and disputed the CC charge which got their attention. I gave the rep the time line for everything and he agreed they had dropped the ball, but assured me the car would be listed quickly. Twelve days late I sent him another message asking what he would be thinking if he where in my position...I was contacted the next day about getting the car listed. That process took a week. From submission to listing was excessive IMO. Now they are getting busier and I understand that, but I was told two weeks when I first made contact. They didn’t push the listing other than on the BaT website. I expected it to pop up on their Social Media sites. Their IG page has 254k followers. It’s a numbers game and I was disappointed by their lack of commitment. I pushed the car on IG as hard as I could and asked everyone I know to spread the word. I’m sure that helped to some extent. All the positive comments helped a great deal. Other listings tend to have a lot of questions and comments that don’t directly apply to the listing. Thanks to the LG crew and friends some Social Media platforms, my listing was nothing but support for the car being very well built and me being OCD.

If you list with them, get an estimated time line, be prepared to push the car via social media on your own and stay on top of them. I also recommend hiring someone that shoots cars to take photos for you. They see details like we do and it shows in their work. Driving video is a plus as is the function of items like power locks, windows, etc. set your reserve at or very near to the price you would accept if you haggled with a buyer in person. They will try get you to come down on it.

They don’t seem to understand Pro touring cars. CHC was the ground breaker for them and it’ll catch on in time. May take some explaining on your part as to why you want what you want.

Good Luck! :captain:

It was a great listing to watch.

A couple years ago I listed my SLP Camaro and it took them 3 weeks to get it listed. Absolutely zero promotion from them and horrible at best communication. I was hoping they would have got better but it sounds like they still have work to do.

Looking back I will ask to profs the listing and how they sort the pictures. I might even consider adding notes/comments directly on the photo with dates so people can see how the car started and how it ended up.

I love that you used Instagram to promote the car. Might try something like that as well.

I’m in the same boat. Wanting to buy a truck, but used ones are selling for more than new ones at the moment due to the chip shortage. Figure I can drive the Malibu for a bit longer. At least it gets decent MPG.

My guess is new car prices (MSRP) will stay on track with inflation. Once the chip shortage is resolved (maybe end of next year) manufactures and dealers will want to move product, but also need/want to make every dollar they can after a couple of years with little coming in. I’d expect to pay close to MSRP. If that happens, I would expect the used car market to remain over priced. Or it could be a total blowout by manufactures flooding the market with new cars and destroying the used car market. I’m never right on this kind of thing.

To a large degree, it's all relative. My used car I plan to trade went up in value 10% so the spread is less imposing to upgrade. The inflation will hurt buying power a little. It's the first time buyers and those looking for a major upgrade that will get blind sided with debt.

Perhaps the market was due for some natural inflation, but I see it as vastly overheated at the moment. When a Toyota RAV4 is selling for 5-10k over MSRP, that's red flag for me. HA That's impulse, impatience, and supply and demand at work.

As the tide goes out, it always comes back in. I agree inflation will play it's part and we'll likely settle into a more reasonable market in the short term. At some point people run out of money and optimism. But hey, I've been wrong a few times. ha Personally, I'll do my best to stay content with the perfectly fine vehicles we have in the garage.
