Figured I'd add the video clips Jim sent rather than pictures. The first two where taken just after the clear went on. The last two are from today. Looks like Jim has the side door open and has the fans running. At some stage Jim will move the car out of the booth and into the garage for the next stage. Looking forward to seeing pictures of it out in the sun.

I am all smiles over here.

:flag2:

I saw them all on my phone at first. Pretty much drove home with a sonic boom to see them on my computer. :confused59:

Jim will install the glass and window/drip rail trim. That way if anything gets scratched it can be fixed right there. He will also install the Dynomat in the doors and all the hardware so he can make the final adjustments/alignment. Then I'll drag it home and Jeff and I will go to work on everything else. The goal is to have it running by SEMA so Mike Norris can tune it on a dyno while he's here. Not sure the car will be 100% by then, but that's the goal.

[QUOTE=Spiffav8;634679]Sorry for the long delay since my last post. Seems like I've been driving the crazy train the last few weeks. :lostmarbles: If I wasn't mental before, I am now.

Jim has been making steady progress on the car and we are getting closer to color. The car has been blown apart and all the nooks and crannies have been given attention. The firewall is nearly complete and the floor has been repaired. The floor wasn't bad, just a small hole, but time wise the smart call was to replace the drivers side.

I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.......

It's a bare metal primer. Has a flat finish to it once it dries. Not that it really matters as this area will be painted and then covered with Dynamat. Dynaliner and then carpet.

Quick update. Firewall, core support, etc all ready to go. Inner fenders are getting finished up along with a few other odds and ends. Wet sanding has started and if Jims finger tips hold up, the car should be ready in a few weeks.

Jim wanted me to assure you it's getting done right. This is for Greg Weld...sanding blocks for all areas...finger tips are wearing down from gripping the block...that trunk got a kiss of 800, then 1000,1500,2000, finished off with 5000,,,I should do a fingerprint before I start and then when finished. Just gettin started

5-ish weeks! I hope to make the marathon trip next Friday to pickup all the stainless trim and the bumper that was smoothed. Then turn and head for Jims place. Pretty stoked to see the car. Glass should be showing up next week, or at least I hope so. It'll be cool to see the glass and trim installed. :D

Crazy Bob who used to live down the street would walk into my garage anytime the door was open back when I had The Bucket and make the same Mustang comment every time. He would also introduce himself as if we had never meet. I was really glad when he finally moved.

I suspect Jim has a Lazy Boy chair and mini fridge behind the car. Probably hiding from the lil lady. :BlahBlah:

Thought you'd like that. I was impressed. Headed to TX to shoot hogs with some friends in Aug. Should be a drunken mess. :bigun2:

We'll keep this thread about your car..... but <always the big butt>.... My two shooting buddies here - Jakes wife gave him Texas hog hunting as a wedding gift. WE are going to either Helibacon or Pork Choppers. Since this is a car thread - I'll add, that now that my 40 Ford is also in Texas - then I need excuses to go see it AND Adrienne. LOL

You didn't miss anything. I haven't said much about it. It is for a remote oil tank for my LS7. Heads where shipped to Mike Norris. He had the exhaust valves replaced, guides installed along with double stack springs and stage II porting. I also purchased a BTR stage II cam for it. Hopefully Jeff and I will be starting on the engine shortly. I'll post pictures as we build the engine.

Updates are coming in at a crazy rate. Not complaining! Jim said his finger tips needed a rest from all the wet sanding, so he laid down some Dynomat, painted the trunk, installed the door and trunk rubber and the stainless hardware for the doors. I just returned from Jims and have to say that the car looks SO much better in person. Jim polished up the drivers rear quarter so I could see the "final product". It's silly. I rolled the dice on the hardware and agree that it's a nice way to detail things. I've heard a lot of great things about the LS7, but have never driven one. Looking forward to it.

Love it Curtis! Everything is looking well worth the wait.

Oh yeah!! Three weeks and I can bring it home. The glass arrived Friday and I dropped off the stainless trim and rear bumper. Jim and I had to hold things in place and have a look. Yeah.....:bump:

Updates are coming in at a crazy rate. Not complaining! Jim said his finger tips needed a rest from all the wet sanding, so he laid down some Dynomat, painted the trunk, installed the door and trunk rubber and the stainless hardware for the doors. You know...a nice easy relaxing kind of day. :relax:

I've been slacking on the updates, but progress continues. I made the cross country trip to pickup the stainless trim and rear bumper after having them repaired and cleaned up. The shop did a great job and I as very please. Sihilling Metal Polishing in Santa Ana, CA 714-543-7051 ask for Charles. Highly recommend them. Drove up to Stockton and got to see the car for the first time since it was painted. :flag2:

Jim actually let me help with a few small things which was nice. Basically minor things that I couldn't mess up. :sieg:

Since my last post the control arms and spindles have been painted, the headliner has gone in, some of the trim is on the car, all the rubber trim is in place and the quarter glass has been installed. Door glass and door internals are in progress and it sounds like the windshield and back glass will be installed in a few days. Won't be long now!

Nothing to get excited about here!
It is only installing a engine , easy !

Not a big deal to install, now Curtis' second engine! LOL
Built the first one with 550 hp, but when he saw that LS7 setup sitting in my garage, he had to have it he said!
So looks like I will be building another engine for this car

Guess that I shouldn't mention that I am drilling a big hole in the smoothed firewall for the engine harness, LOL

Curtis is super excited to get going on the car as soon as it gets to my shop this weekend

Looking really good my friend! You have to be out of your mind excited. I remember those days.

I built mine the same way as you know. It's not ideal to fabricate after or lean over those pretty fenders, but you can execute well. Take your time and protect your car well. I used sheet plastic with towels on top, then fender covers where I was working. It lets you use the fenders for misc. things like bolts and wiring. It may be early for plastic over that paint. I like what the big shops do with the paper as well. I can honestly say I built mine without any scratches on the paint or extra holes, etc. You are putting a little dinky mouse over the fenders, I had to shoe horn that big block in there. Especially after I got the road race pan on it. It barely fit.

It will go quick now. Good luck getting anything else done. Apologize to your wife up front. ha

Yeah I'm excited. It'll be fun to work on and yes, protecting the finish is top priority. Jim says no plastic on the paint and Blake (Speedtech) warned against the paper. Jeff and I still have to build the engine and there is some work to do on the inside before we get to engine compartment. Not going to rush.

You just doubled your number of posts man! Slow down...you're making Greg Weld look bad. A buddy turned a bunch for a project he's working on and offered to make a few for me. Greatly appreciated and lucky that he would include me. My goal is to keep it simple and clean. I think the stainless adds to that vibe. Thanks for the positive reinforcement. Had to pickup all the stainless trim and the rear bumper and haul them to SoCal to be refurbished and took the tank with me. Jim and I mocked it up and cut a hole in the passenger side inner fender, where the battery would normally be. I wish I could have used the stock tank as its brand new,,but it would have hung out the bottom of the car. I pretty much copied Scott G. And what he did on his 69 and used a setup from Peterson Fluid Systems that was designed by ATS back in the day.

It actually happened just before paint, but yeah a little project creep. Pretty sure that's the biggest evil with any project and time is our enemy. Waiting for something to be finished usually gives a person to much time to look into options. Or something new comes out. The longer the wait...the bigger the creep.

I've never really had a "plan" laid out for this. Seriously it's all :guns: shooting from the hip. The plan, if you could call it that, was originally to do a suspension/LS swap, add some wheels and and go have fun. :knock: One could say that the entire build has been project creep. Hey....so far it's working out pretty good. I know there will be a few things, but I'm not building a 2.5 million Camaro to try and win SMOY.

A buddy had some made for a build he is doing and was nice enough to do some for me. The bolts are ARP. It's the washers that are custom. Wish I had 10 sets. Everyone seems to want them.

Funny story about Divers

Tyler Barmore was working for Tim setting up his new place in town and needed buying power for some sheet metal ducting, I got the call and was able to help them both out. Tim and his wife are some of the nicest people I've met and the Notchead products are pretty dang cool, really like how clean the line clamps are.

Curtis, tic toc, tic toc :)

Work has suddenly decided that they can't live without me...but only on weekends. Hopefully I can have it back here next weekend, but at this point who knows.

:EmoteClueless:

The good part about that is that Jim isn't killing himself out in the booth in the 100+ heat as much. That's rough! :lostmarbles:

He had the front and rear glass installed and has the trim on. Pretty stoked about that. Digging the way the trim fits.

By the way -- the Tyler that Basher mentions in his post - is the son of my long time buddy Pierre (AKA "Frenchie - he's Italian but his mother gave him a french name....).

I agree with Basher -- Diny (pronounced DEE NEE) and Tim are 100% first class folks. For those that don't recognize the shop -- they're the folks that built FERRAMBO -- the Red Rambler with the Ferrari engine and running gear... it won a BUNCH of stuff. A Ridler just to name one.... LOL

Jim swapped ends of the car to work on for a few. He's added the spoiler and polished the tail end of the car. Good way to keep moving forward and a fresh set of eyes when working on things. The trunk rubber was just installed, and is holding the lid a little high at the moment, but it still looks pretty good to me.

Jim uses a small cordless drill looking buffer with a small pad on it. The pad is about 3" is diameter. I know he has a few options at his disposal, but that's the only one I've seen. I've been looking at Autogeek and will probably end up with a kit of some sort to keep the car looking decent.

After four hours of sleep I hit the road headed towards Jims place in the might F150 EcoBoost. It was a blistering 60-65 mph pace at 7.8 mpg, but after two red bulls and nearly a full can of SKOL to keep me awake, I arrived at Jims place 9.5 hours later. Jim was nice enough to back the trailer in and after looking the car over for a few we got to work. We made sure all the nuts and bolts where tight enough for the trip home, we broke the wheels out of the boxes and started bolting them on the car. I was a bit nervous every how they would look on the car due to the change from the original plan. I was pleasantly surprised once the first wheel was installed. After all four comers had rubber, we dropped the car on the ground and then....we just sat there and appreciated the view.

I'm a rookie at this type of "long haul". It's fun and all, but I really would need a better equiped truck if I was going to do much more. Had to turn the AC off to keep the truck from over heating on the hill climbing out of Baker, CA. Stupid EcoBoost.

Every thing looks so great Have any side shots of the wheels? GA3's with brushed center?
Anyways, gotta be getting excited to drive

VR3 and yes, I've got one here somewhere. I'll post it.

I got some pics from Curtis with car out in sun , lets just say that it looks awesome!
It has been a long road for him just to get to this point and with that much down time, came changes, but all for the better!

looking forward to car getting to my shop this evening and start the build on both the car and new LS7 that is one of the "changes" LOL

Congrats buddy!

Looking forward to the next leg of the adventure and appreciate all the support.

Well.....after another blistering 9 hour drive, I am back in Vegas. The car arrived safe and is now resting in Jeffs shop. Didn't even have it half way out of the trailer and Jeffs neighbors where over and throwing out the complements Nice to hear and all the credit goes to Mr Wizard.

Dave was nice enough to make the drive down to Jims and help unload Johns car and then load mine. Really appreciated brother and it was great to see you!

Ok...so as promised, here's a few pictures of the car outside at Jims and a few more of it here in Vegas.

But first...the side shot of the wheels.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-W2JbVgW/0/59900e80/L/i-W2JbVgW-L.jpg

If you haven't caught onto the fact that Jim does all this in a tiny little space at his house yet, I think there will put it in perspective.

Had to get Johns car out of the trailer fist off.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-Wnd3znT/0/26f38bf3/L/i-Wnd3znT-L.jpg

Then we where able to roll mine out of the booth. One coming in. One going out.

All loaded and ready for the ride home.

Finally at Jeffs house.

We rolled the car into Jeffs shop and of course we had to admire it for a few. I think Jeff was impressed with everything. We ran it up on the lift just to check out the bottom of the car. I'll get pictures of that later.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-xqMVqHM/0/b8c10d9d/XL/i-xqMVqHM-XL.jpg

Karen, Jeffs wife came out to lend a hand and then....she made me dinner! How awesome is that! Just what I needed after a long day and zero food.

Laurie, my wife stopped by on her way to work for a quick look. She said it's alright. :lostmarbles:

And...it's all tucked in.

Packedup a good chunk of the parts I've been hording and hauled them over to Jeffs place and spent the better part of yesterday sorting through everything that came off the car. Jeff and I also started a list "To Do List" and the beginnings of our plan of attach.

https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-MVCXjCr/0/5ac2488c/L/i-MVCXjCr-L.jpg

As part of the process we ran the car up on the lift to get a better look at what we need to accomplish.

Jims attention to detail is pretty impressive. I need to get a better picture of the how the frame connectors are blended into the floor and how the undercoating transitions to the firewall.

Somehow I ended up getting my hands dirty twisting some wrenches.

Todd it was great to see you and thanks for the help. Appreciate your assistance in getting the ball rolling. You're welcome anytime. There are plenty of wrenches to go around.

The rear suspension is in, pinion agile is set and everything has been torqued. After that was finished Jeff and I started putting the brakes together. I've got the rear rotors bolted and torqued, but still need to lace them up with the safety wire. Haven't done that for awhile, so there's going to be a few do overs.

I am really enjoying working on the car. Jeff is more OCD out the details than I am and it's refreshing. There's no rush and I believe we are both enjoying the process. Jeffs shop setup is very user friendly! He has done a great job of putting it all together and and making it functional. In addition to being air conditioned, it's very clean. Never have to hunt for anything which is nice.

I'm headed to TX to do some hog hunting with some friendsand won't be back till Sunday, so no work on the car this weekend.

Man I wish. Every time I am in the shop I'm wishing I could jump in and turn the key!

Life has been hectic since the car came home and I haven't been able to devote as much time on it as I'd like to. The rear suspension is good to go as are the rear brakes. I started assembly on the front brakes and ran into a fitment issue. I've been working with team at Artmorrision and Wilwood to nail down what was wrong. I assumed it was something I had done, but after several emails and a lot of pictures, it appears I was sent the wrong front calipers by Wilwood. They have been wonderful to deal with and the correct set has been shipped. Hopefully things will progress stead from here on out.

With my wife working as a 911 dispatcher and the friends that I have who are Metro Police, I'm actually amazed that they still let people drive up and down the strip. Progress has been slooooww. Busy time of year for me and I'm not really in a huge rush. I've run into a few small things that had to be taken care of, like the front calipers not fitting....I was sent the wrong ones. Also the Vintage Air vent template doesn't work with the stock setup. Didn't realize that when I ordered the kit, so I had to modify them. Progress is happening, it's just slow. I brought the car home from Jeffs and that's helping. Jeff has a lot happening in his shop and needed the room for a customers car. I've found (Todd was right) that it helps having it here.

what are you using for a booster and master,

since you have a aftermarket sub, front brake lines?, the factory length braided lines are too short,

and steering gear from the column to the rack,

looks like your getting ready to start laying this stuff out, and I'm doing the same, thanks Steve

Keep wearing shoes, I'd like to see you have a capable throttle foot when this car is road worthy in 2029.

Went with the Hydratech setup. Wilwood master. Art Morrison provides all the braided lines. I just need to cut the steering shaft and I'm good to go. Lots of little things seem to eat up all my time. Ugh

Right! Working on this car is hazardous to my health! I should be like GW and pay someone to do it all for me.

Call Mike and get a set. Price is right.

Buddy I wish it was paint. Ripped me up pretty good.

Its the small stuff time killers,

you get the steering shaft from AM also??

Just trying to figure out what to use, or the best,

Did I miss where you got the smooth rear chrome bumper from or did you make that yourself?

Yes. I ordered as much as possible from them to avoid any issues.

I had all the trim reconditioned and the rear bumper smoothed by Sihilling Metal Polishing. Fantastic work and at a very reasonable price.
