Thanks Wayne, how's the weather in the NE? Nice to be in Cali now!

...

Storm coming in tomorrow , luckily only rain for us.

That's a big job out of the way, and nicely done! Bravo ! On its wheels soon ?

:thankyou: Keith, a properly bonded part is stronger than a welded part ... the bonded sheet metal will tear before the bond gives whereas the spot weld will give way under tension. I did weld areas recommended as per the instructions.

To be a leader you need to innovate :ohsnap:

Got the tunnel mods done, check that off the list ....

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/924/Q5Bw5u.jpg

After the adhesive cures I'll finish off the tunnel mods from the bottom, still needs some material trimmed off, left it long on purpose!!!

Thanks for looking ...

I used the same Speedtech tunnel cover and 3M Panel Bonding adhesive (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PEW4MI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) B/c my interior is finished and didn't want to risk any rogue sparks. Sure wish I had the chance to do the work without the T56 installed, made cutting the tunnel extra stressful.

Looks great!

 Thanks, I can only imagine operating after the interior is in ... ugg! Hopefully you used self tapping screws to bring the two panels together when you bonded, then you just fill in the screw holes after you take them out and you are done :headspin:

Car is off the rotisserie and back on jackstands .... progress? Anyway, still need to get the roof and passenger quarter in epoxy, the rest of the floor and the dash top so I have been sanding and getting ready to spray.

I am really liking this gray more and more ... decided to put down some 16 ga over the firewall holes and reinforce the area so that's done.

Thanks for looking ... have a safe night and get home!!!

Thanks for the compliments and watching my progress ...

A lot of work and not a lot to show .... body work is HARD! Anyway, first round is sanded down to 180 and second coat of lite weight filler is drying now and I'll get everything down to 320 and back in epoxy. That should be good enough for a vinyl wrap!

Been busy with this and that ... waiting on my SPI epoxy I started body working the trunk and the firewall (apita) and I found out the firewall closeout panel I welded on was warped and I couldn't get it straight so I cut it out and did a smaller patch.

The trunk wasn't so bad but my body work still needs refining as can be seen in the SPI black epoxy ...

So here's some pics for those that like visual aids ...

And I started on the hood mods, found out I needed flexible urethane foam between the skin and the supports to replicate AMD's work so I got that today and then my 3M Accuspray gun came in and I just had to spray ... what I time saver in cleanup and the pps cups are just cool.

Well I thought I would be further along with the hood by now but after you spray a black epoxy the poor body work comes out in the shine and you have to keep going to get a flat reflection ....

Hey thanks, this bodywork is difficult, I redid the trunk 3 times and now the hood 3 times because in black epoxy it shows all the defects of my attempted body work, hopefully, it'll be the last go round!

Not much happened today, I got brushable seam sealer on the cowl and the side tulip panels ... waiting for it to cure and should spray color tomorrow. While that was drying I worked on my hood vent locations before I cut the hood.

I see you are running a Ford rear along with the RT 4 link set up. Just thought I'd pass along some info about a minor issue I ran into - the lower brackets on my rear end were off 1/2 outboard on each side. Sight along the lower trailing arm and see if it looks like it's running parallel.

This difference caused the lower coil-over eye mount to come in contact with the wheel rim.

You probably don't have that issue, but it may come in handy for some to check before getting too far along.

the lower brackets on my rear end were off 1/2 outboard on each side.

That may be the correct location, its not uncommon to have the rear end pickup points slightly wider than the frame pickups on the lower arms.

Takes time when everything is painted and you are by yourself

Tell me about it, I've spent the last 20 years building my car all by myself in a carport no less ! I'm always fascinated by those tv shows where multiple people are working on a car, much less helping each other.

Swinging in the engine, mounting doors, taking hoods on and off, not easy as a one man show. My wife/kids start complaining after even just 30 seconds of oscillating the steering wheel or pumping the brake pedal for me.

Yeah it's slower when everything is painted  One man show here too!

Bad news first ... won't be able to use the same wheel size in the rear, good news is I know what will work!!!

First, there is a difference of 3/16" stickout in width between passenger side and driver's side, what ?? ... measured everything again and all is square with the mounts and rear seems the passenger side quarter panel is 3/16" narrower than the driver's side (based on rear frame rails).... go figure.

Update ... it's not as bad as I stated, it's only 3mm or 3/32" difference between sides, still gonna need more bs than these fronts!
/
Second, I have plenty of clearance on the inside, 2" to top of tub and 1" to lower shock mount, so I just ordered a larger bs for the rear rims, no biggy! I would rather have plenty of clearance to the wheel lip than just enough!

For those that need visuals ...

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/924/kOi8EK.jpg
Passenger side way too close to lip!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/924/UXQrh4.jpg
Plenty of clearance here ... so more BS!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/922/icgkte.jpg
1/2" to rubber!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/923/Dzbwl0.jpg
Almost 3/4" to rubber!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/924/ib6KDd.jpg
Those wheels just look cool!

I put the driver's side through compression and it would clear w a lip trim but the passenger side was a no go ... so I'll trim the lip some and have a different bs rims on the back, no biggy! Glad I did it this way instead of ASSUMING !

This is a known issue and only applies to a few of our members. This happens simply because you move slower though time than the rest of the world. If further proof is required, look no further than your closet. Cords, eight track tapes and VCRs are no longer in style, considered modern or even vintage for that matter.

Honestly this is the first I've heard of that. Is it just in this thread or in all of them?

I had typed that post then my wife dragged me away when I got back I hit post and you had posted the picture with the wheels on the car. Lol
Your air bar fits a lot tighter than mine does to the frame rails. Something else for me to figure out.
But your car is coming together nice. Keep up the great progress.

Thanks Wayne, figured timing was off!

That's too funny, might have some truth in though!

Well, you know what happens when you ASSUME ... yeah you end up pulling the whole rear end out from under the car to install the third member, grrrr. Seems the studs on the housing and the holes on the center section didn't line up and after 2hrs and lots of colorful words I had to pull it out and use the LFH to align the studs w the holes! Used gravity to install the 80+ lb center section and then more colorful words and some redneckery she's back under the car and I am going to see the chiropractor tomorrow, lol!

I hear ya!

Been doing a little of this and that ... after the rear was installed I test fitted the brakes with Jay Miller's hybrid floater kit and wanted to run calipers in the front and Jay suggested I could swap sides and that should work ... yep! Got some epoxy and paint on the hubs while I had them out, I have to do the fronts still, I hate to see rust start here!

Been raining for so long [again] but Sat was nice so I went over to Marina for the American AutoX series opener with Art, he brought his SS/RS and got 4 runs in. Mary was there with her Camaro, man she is fast and smooth!!!

So got the hood as straight as I could, OCD is a b***ch and the vents have a home now! You won't see the defects under a wrap anyhow!

The brake thing was bugging me cuz I know it's been done on all Mark's cars, granted he makes his own floater adapter, but I stared at pics of Mayhem and noticed the difference and off I went!!

Anyway, weather is good for now so I'm gonna finish some painting stuff and hopefully get the subframe under the car real soon!

Thanks, yes the POR15 Metal Prep leaves a zinc phosphate coating on the rotor. I've used it for bolts before with great results so why not the rotors? Let them sit in the tub for 25 minutes to get the results I had ... no rusty rotors for this girl!

Messing with self-leveling seam sealer on the drip rails and trunk ... lessons learned 1. FILL the void and the stuff will level bank to bank and 2. 10 minutes drying time is short and stop messing with it before you make it worse, lol.

So I'll have to sand some and re-apply to fill voids, and the driver's side A-pillar didn't flow all the way to the end ... passenger side DID, too much in the channel so I cut it with a razor and will conform with sand paper.

That's all for today, thanks for looking ...

Thanks for the encouragement ...but it didn't work out like I'd hope :waveflag:

One step forward and two steps backward ... that's how this week has been going. First, the steering column was too long, then the radiator support bolts didn't fit the subframe, and then the gas tank strap rubber u-channel was too narrow.

So I did a little this and that and made some progress. I finished installing the 31 spline Strange axles, which went as engineered, finally, and then installed Millerbuilt end caps ... and filled with gear oil.

Fearing the worst I installed the gas tank and radiator with no surprises.

Oh, the wrap didn't work out as planned mainly cuz of my technique and lack of experience. I sure could have used a second pair of hands too. Lessons learned, don't stretch the vinyl too much cuz it makes wrinkles that are apita to get back out. Had I known the technique of the proper squeegee angle of the dangle I probably could have saved it ... another time I guess. Oh, and if you wet the felt squeegee you won't scratch the vinyl, duh! :twak:

So I sacrificed a piece of black vinyl no biggy, I'll have my nephew help me next time, he can hold the vinyl off the panel until I work it down without wrinkles. Didn't take any pics, sorry.

Duh that won't work ... used a 5/16 bolt to attach for now! Frame is too wide!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/923/mhTfbM.jpg
Pulled the column into the cab the distance of the mounting pads, roughly 2 5/8", the bottom bolts are now top bolts!

So I've been on the phone with Blake and he will pay for shortening the column from the Retro Fit 31.5" down to the 29" where she's at now, that's service, thanks, Blake! The car does steer now! The frame horns being too wide caught Blake off guard, never heard of that happening. Solution ... take some material off the inside slot to get the designed bolts to fit!

Well, that's my week so far, I'll get the front end on this week and hopefully, my rear rims will be in soon so I can get this rolled onto the transport.

Thanks for looking ...

Good garage day ... did some body work on the extension and the header, I'll put some epoxy on these tomorrow, the wrap definitely shows the imperfections just as paint does ...

Thought I'd post up a FYI ... for those that have removed all those GM push pins/tabs from the surround trim from the back and upper front windscreen. Well, they don't go back in ... so after multiple trips to Fastenal, I found these that will hold the trim in place. They push in and then you screw the post in so if you need to remove them you can.

Take a look ...

The General must have had a tool or something for the metal clips ... I couldn't get the sides crimped and then push them in at the same time, so these plastic ones will do. Afterall, it's just for the headliner tension.

It's been some time since I updated this thread ... relocated to Denver first of April and started job searching, meanwhile the Camaro is safe and sound at Kevin's shop waiting on me to get back on track. So I have been helping out Kevin with his 68 Camaro build and had some time to work on my Camaro a little today ... had previously pulled the parking brake shoe off the passenger side cuz it was so tight the car wouldn't roll.

What APITA, not wanting to pull the entire C6 hub back off the axle flange to install the hold back spring on the shoe I cursed and with some persistence I won! That spring had some tension and would slip out from one side while I put pressure on the other side and the middle wouldn't go down into the shoe (insert curse words) ...

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/922/mlzhUF.jpg
She's safe and sound here under cover!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/922/D1Gh8W.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/922/xFyrvh.jpg

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/924/wRHpWv.jpg
This is the culprit ... the hold back spring that fits inside the shoe between the hub and backing plate w 1/8" clearance, grrrr!

And the HF jack failed and the car came to rest on the gas tank, yep ... dented the new tank a little.

So I'm here in Denver and start my new job with CDOT this Monday. Hope to see some guys for the PPIR OPTIMA event, thanks for looking ...

Never trust your life and your car to the chinaman built jack my friend..... never. Losing your fingers or hand - or life - to a cheaply built POS..... yeah that's just not the place to save money. Tools such as that are one time - lifetime purchases.

While they can all fail.... you're odds probably rise exponentially with the "more money you saved"...

I place a higher value on my well being than that.

Sorry it happened. Now order a Hein-Werner or similar.

Beware the "assembled in the USA" vs MADE in the USA.....

Norco is also a top contender - made in Taiwan.... but is a great piece of equipment that I trust my fat ass with.

Thanks guys, already started looking for a new jack ... I pressed the car up and then went to get the stands and it lost pressure and rested on the tank, not bad thou ... still pisses me off!

Been helping Kevin with his 68 Camaro that's at the pre-body shop guy [works at body shop during the day] got the DSE roll bar all set and welded in and just finishing some seam sealer and then it's coming back to Kevin's to get the undercarriage detailed and painted ... that's where I come in :hello: The body shop will be ready to take the car end of June, I think, and she'll get her top coat and stripes then back to assemble the car at Kevin's shop.

Nice work Chief, you are doing it the right way. I'm in the middle of a similar situation on my project. I replaced the entire floor from toe boards to the tail lights. At this rate our cars will out live us. :headscratch:

It's nice to take a step back and recap on occasion. Documenting the build process is excellent because you can see the steps, time and materials invested that gets forgotten once everything looks pretty. For me the odd pause to reflect gives me perspective and makes staying motivated to keep moving forward much easier.

hey isn't that a Dixie Chicks song? My car is finally home, thanks to Kevin for keeping her safe and sound, and only steps away from me now! I had to put her on wheel doolies to I can move it from one side to the other and still get a door open. Of course the XR650R has to be pushed outside to move the Camaro. I have been working on final body work, which is not my favorite task, and hopefully get it back into epoxy and then wrap.

I pulled the maroon wrap off the front valance and header, didn't undercoat the back sides, and found out the SPI Epoxy didn't want to let go of the wrap. I came off in little bitty pieces and then left the adhesive which I had to "skin" off with a razor blade, grrr. So a call to SPI and he suggested I clear coat over the SPI Epoxy to provide a barrier to the wrap. After all, clear is nothing more the paint w/o pigment.

Knowing my limits I have a body man coming over next week to look at what needs to be done to get the doors and the front sheet metal aligned and looking as good as the body tub. Meanwhile I'll finish the body the best I can and start with the mock up of wiring [AAW 15] and A/C [V/A]. I ordered Speedtech tubs and engine down bars, and sent my Ididit column back to get shortened, thanks Jay, for working with me!

lines from tank to firewall! Well that was a lesson in patience but I persisted and :gitrdun: . I did have to re-make the rear fuel line cuz I tried to correct one bend that was too short and the just made it worse, so I made a new one this morning in about a half an hour.

I left the fuel line long at the firewall and did not terminate it yet, may add a 45 degree and GM quick disconnect or leave it parallel to the firewall. Figure it's best to not commit to termination side just yet!

And my Ididit column came back, had to have it shortened to 30" to fit with the extreme subframe, thanks to Speedtech for labor and shipping charges.

Great attention to detail as always. One thing I would suggest is to use some kind of fan controller that gives you more than a simple on/off. These fans are noisy when running full speed. Entropy has a two speed controller or better yet the continuously variable PWM controller from DC Controls works great.

OCD taking over here ... but I would bet no one ever thought to check the ID of their brand new AN-3 fittings! Well I received my Fragola fittings for the brake lines, mainly bulkhead fittings and some 90 and 45 degree fittings and after inspection I noticed there was a difference in the 'shoulder' of many of the fittings at the 37 degree flange. So I investigated the difference and found the straight through fittings would easily accept a 1/8' drill bit … hmmm, so I went through the entire order of fittings and made them all 1/8" minimum. I put the drill bit in the vice and 'hand drilled' the fitting onto the bit. Most obstruction came from the bulkhead fittings with 90 and 45's that weren't drilled all the way through to the end [if that makes sense].

Definitely time consuming, but a task I needed to get done to ensure all ID's were the same. Pictures may not be that good but you get the idea :shakehead:

ran into fitment problems … the Wilwood proportioning valve combo mount wouldn't work … seems when you add a clutch master cylinder plate to your firewall you don't have any threads left on the upper MC mount. :EmoteClueless:

Thought of using new bolts [which meant taking out the steering wheel and the under dash brace and pressing out the studs and adding new ones] but after a sleeping on it I said "why can't you just turn the bracket over and use it on the left side?" So that's what I did, trimmed the bracket, got new nuts to clear the valve handle, cut and painted it with SEM black :gitrdun:

after a little break helping my buddy Pete get his Rocky Mountain Sheep Ram!!!! Had a blast in the mountains but I can tell anyone that hasn't attempted this hunt it was not for the faint of heart.

All things electrical … finished up the trunk wiring and the front lighting. Luckily I had keep all the OEM harness and I needed the single element reverse light socket and the front turn signal sockets. I was surprised that AAW didn't include a wire for the reverse lights so I ran it forward and will terminate it when I get the T56 installed.

The rear harness all loomed out and my fingers still hurt, 4 wires filled the 1/4 loom and it was tight!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/6088/ytJHRY.jpg
Had to tap the stands on the housings to accept 8-32 screws and then a coat of reflective paint, looks good!

I was very surprised to find the front turn signals I ordered matched the OEM ones, nice!

Luckily I had the OEM sockets for the turn signals, molex butt connector and heat shrink and she's good to go.

I unwrapped my front GM grille assembly and to my surprise there was my dash pad:confused59: Guess it's been wrapped since 2011 to protect it from the crud. Thinking I'll send it in and get a make over but not as bulky as GM made them in the 60's. I set it in place with the new turn signals to get the lengths and placement of the wiring harness. Next is to take the rivets out and get it powder coated and install my NOS grille insert …. can't wait!

and somethings don't!! Thought I'd share some parts that work as designed and some that didn't.

First the good, I ordered the DSE throttle plate for the C6 accelerator and it is a well designed piece and fit perfectly. Had to run a 1/4-20 tap through the Sheetmetal but no biggie!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6012/SujsXK.jpg

Next was the not so good … been frustrated with finding a blank dash panel for my car and thought Anvil would be the solution (they said their panel followed the contours of the dash) but it didn't fit for sh!te. The angle for the roll off at the bottom was all wrong and there was not enough concave in the panel.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5664/DWZgdQ.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/9484/fwBisL.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8396/MKyiMP.jpg

If anyone has any solutions to this dash dilemma I'd love to hear from you!!!! Thinking of making a wooden buck and re-contouring the Classic Ind Sheetmetal dash panel to fit OEM dash.

And to share some things that I found that might help someone else out …
how to attach the upper and grille to the center piece. How about the attaching the turn signals through the grille? Ace Hardware to the rescue …

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/129/Fp594D.jpg
The course threads required a license plate nut!

Bought plastic nuts and bolts to hold the center dash to upper and lower panels!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6288/bznqHq.jpg

Anyone with any input into the dash dilemma I'd appreciate your input. Anvil said they would refund the panel but that doesn't help my vision of a blank panel.

I sent a bunch of stuff out for powder coating and well see if they come through, thanks for looking ...

...:popcorn2:

Yeah I thought of that but everyone says you can't heat the automotive resins. Have you personally done this?

Beechy
10-04-2019, 06:29 PM
Short answer...NO......I have reproduced taillight housings for my 68 in CF, and installed a lot of body panels on RACECAR applications in CF.

2: If they're cold laid-up on a bench (vac-bagged), they won't be any more pesky than regular fiberglass resin. CF resin is optically clearer so it doesn't have that yellow tint, and better quality with UV sunscreen.

Short answer...NO......I have reproduced taillight housings for my 68 in CF, and installed a lot of body panels on RACECAR applications in CF.

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure of their manufacturing process but I have been in contact with Anvil and they are not sure why the curvature of their blank doesn't match my OEM dash. So the plan is to send back the blank AND my OEM for inspection …. maybe get a custom blank made to match my dash, we'll see!

bretcopsey........sorry, nothing.
I rebuilt my '68SS fifteen years ago.

Used dental plaster to take molds off the original tailight housings and laid up cf copies. Dental plaster is the finest grade .....picks up ALL the surface detail but goes off like a $2 hooker!

CF fabric and Ultraclear resin are available at plastic supply stores and the process is same as fiberglass except that you have to be REALLY accurate with the first layer (cutting it, laying it and ensuring it doesn't move in the layup) cos it's what u see in the final product. You can of course clear 2-pack the end result. Portions of the housings that were chrome, I painted bright silver, so it's only the wide beveled surface that's visible.
CF materials are 30% more expensive than fiberglass......negligible.

Happy Halloween!!! I did get a treat … picked up my parts from the powder coater!

I did get correspondence from Anvil concerning the dash panel and they said I could use an industrial heat gun to bend their panel but I'd have to 'over bend' the panel to let it relax to fit the angle of the dangle. The jury is still out ….

Thanks bunches, it is nice to have the car so close … even if it's in a closet!

Heck yeah!

Been wanting to do this for a long time, it's all original to the car so it should fit …. famous last words!

Well it took two shipments to get fenders from AMD that weren't banged up to much, the RH had suffured UPS idiots so a discount was in order. So while I was at my AMD dealer I asked him about his car, he hasn't touched it in 4 years … but it's pretty cool.

Some car porn …. oh, Jeff has a numbers matching 70 GTX to die for and an awesome 69 Charger too :king: Yes he does all his own work, including paint!!!

Think I'd give my left nut for his shops, this is three of 7 garage spaces!!!

So the RH fender has a ding and some stamping imperfections as expected but workable fer sure. Got the Finch firewall plate mounted and the VA evap mounted to the same so now I can move forward with the VA install.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/2070/bNYyj3.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/9971/WzbSSV.jpg
Worked on the Entropy controller mounting options and I'm not happy with the radiator support option cuz the wiring plugs are perpendicular to the controller connection and it looks outa place … think I'll make a closeout panel where the battery was and get the wires parallel with the radiator support …. dang 10 ga wire, it will flow better and not put tension on the wires.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1176/R5bo0M.jpg

I finished wiring my compressor … it works! So now I just have to run the air lines and get the drops down but it's been cold in the garage [dang the north facing garages] so I picked up a kerosene heater that should heat up my shed pretty well.

Seems like when I think things are going well .... the ****e hits the fan. Well, since the last update, I got the holes drilled in the dash for the VA outlets. APITA cuz I had to buy two hole saws to get 'er dun.

Since then my AMD fenders came in, I was so focused on the external skin I waited 2 months to get a set with as little 'shipping' damage that I never gave thought that the fenders might BE STAMPED WRONG!!!

So over the weekend I put the fenders on and the driver's side fit as expected, not so bad, but the passenger's side didn't fit fer ****e. After gettin my OEM fender from the shed they didn't stamp it correctly. Go figure, it's AMD ****e :disgusted::disgusted: Called my AMD rep and he compared his pass fender and it was the same as mine ... so I figured I might as well find out why it's wrong.

For your viewing pleasure ....

It seems the inner brace with the hinges attached was not held in the jig properly and it actually was angled almost 3/4 inch high over the rest of the run to the back of the fender, so I cut out the welds and got her straight over the run.

I didn't have any weld thru primer tonight so I will get some tomorrow. Trying to get the front end together asap to get her to the body shop for some 'front end alignment ' the My Body Man is going to get the doors and the fenders/hood lined up and ready for final bodywork ....

Seems the snowstorm is going to hold things up some which works in my favor, who'd thought that they would stamp them wrong ...... oh yeah,me!!!

I haven’t bought a ton of aftermarket metal, but for my Chevelle, I had to cut my passenger “new” fender up to make it fit, but it was along the door edge, not along the hood edge. And then I had to cut the drivers fender extension all to pieces to make it fit. I figured that all of this “new metal was this way. I talked to my lifetime painter friend about it before I actually started hacking the stuff up, and he said that it’s all this way, part of the process. My hood did fit good, but it had 2 small dings on it, which was no biggie to me.

Since no one has posted up the process ... I'll post installing Speedtech Inner wheel houses for their extreme subframe. This is how I did it, which is not the only way to install the fiberglass tubs but this is how I did it.... couple calls to Vince to assist was helpful, thanks Vince!

Well, the Glasstek tubs are close they do need some attention, specifically, the radius to match the OEM wheel arch is not the best, in fact,
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/7153/vGBG3h.jpg
the whole mold is too wide as compared to the OEM wheel arch. No biggy, I drew the arch on the fiberglass and sanded it down to more resemble the OEM arch.

I did grind off the OEM steel wheel lip by 3/16 and hammer and dolly the radius to vertical.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6325/OJVHce.jpg
As well as to hammer and dolly the upper mounts to the more horizontal plane to match the Glasstek tubs.

The Glasstek was a good mold for references such as the front drop off panel and the radiator support with dimples in the fiberglass that could be drilled out with confidence.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8655/GKlDfG.jpg
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5963/dG6fs2.jpg
The only real difficulty was the tub to fender attachment, while the inner had the clearance it still needed to mate up the top brace like the OEM, I even used the OEM fender washers.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/849/QrHqqk.jpg
Once fitted to the fender I fit the tub to the car and marked the location for the top bolts to the fender brace.

You do need to cut off the OEM fender brace coming off the firewall to allow clearance for the tub.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6915/mo7m42.jpg
And my brake lines have to be redone because of the tub that came too close to the MC.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8347/PJDTrB.jpg
I bent the existing brake lines to exit the right side and enter the right side of the MC .... not sure I like them but for now, they'll do.

Of course, I repaired the OEM fenders with patches from Classic with the brace.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/6756/XTGzaS.jpg

And then I mounted the entire front end ...

Your aftermarket front clip should have 2 locations for bolting up the front core support. The first location (closest to the firewall) should be for 67-68 camaro and Novas and the second location a few inches forward should be for a 69 Camaro. I think you just bolted the core support in the 69 Camaro location. I may be wrong but on my Chris alstons frame it has 2 locations to bolt up the core support. If that doesn’t work I would just bend the latch assembly since that’s what looks like is pushing the header panel forward that 1/2” or so.

Install your hood without the latch in place. I think you might find the header panel crown is low and once you get that right the latch will fit better. At least that is my recollection from the last time I dealt with this.

Thanks for chiming in, I double-checked everything ... read - loosened all the bolts and doubled checked the fitment. The fender can't go back any further cuz the bolt by the hinges,

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/5683/e06EY6.jpg

and the cowl and fender alignment is spot on

Seems silly but I started pushing the car by the radiator support and by golly it flexed quite a bit so I bolted the latch support loosely and pushed the latch into place ... hmmm, who would have thunk it!

More progress today ... my body man said to use a BFH and a piece of wood to get the AMD trunk lid to sit flat with the window panel. So I beat on her til she's pretty close to being flush with the front and the corners came up to meet the quarters, "winner winner, chicken dinner"

Waiting on my through bulkhead connector for power and working on a mount for my AAW fuse box for the dash area -- never ends!!!

I did drill a hole in the tunnel area for a pass-through grommet and finished wiring my Entropy fan controller, just need to wire it up the GM harness, yeah!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/5483/IHoLAX.jpg
Had to remove about 18 inches from the harness to make it neat and tidy!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/633/uvExdp.jpg
This looks good ... didn't care for the BIG HOLE in the dash look ...the GM harness stuff will come through the side tulip panel!

Working on the wiring harness for the incorporation of the IQ3 dash into the GM harness and user indications (turn signals, hi beams, whether I'm being followed, ect,) and planning the routing of said stuff to look right ...

Thanks for looking ...

Forgot to ask .... any easy methods of getting this spring onto the hood hinge? Remember I'm the only on here ... lol:lmao:

Had to replace the OEM hinges with these Heartbeat City repros ... pretty close to originals!

Suggestions always welcome ...

Grab the end towards the front with vice grips, hook the back side and pull it to the front and hook it on the hinge.

Thanks Jim, I thought about the vice grip idea but yours is a great idea and safer ... now I have to go buy a fan belt, lol!

Thanks again ...

Here is another alternative if you need a stud. I am mounting these under the dash so I can hang my harness.

Nice. I've used t-bolts w/epoxy on them in the past. I wondered if something was commercially available. Now I know....

:popcorn2:

Thanks, buddy, I'm trying my best!

Been some time since I updated this thread ... been doing this and that when the temperature cooperates, which has been difficult this winter. My hand surgery has been pushed out til ... who knows when, so I just keep on keeping on and do what I can with what I can.

The pandemic has Aurora going crazy, not to worry though, got food and TP so get to work on the car when I can get the temps up ... supposed to get more snow Friday, grrr ...

So where were we, oh yeah, I ordered a Wolf Fab 4.5" shrinking disc to get the fender patch back to original contours. It seems no matter how careful you welding are there is still going to be some distortion and this shrinking disc is the cat's pajamas.

Had a crown in the fender patch as seen below

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1224/BzXk9m.jpg

with about ten passes with the disc the fender is mo better ....

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/3153/ioMpba.jpg

It does take some time to shrink the metal but wow what a difference

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4417/ZZaa3b.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/1533/qg9lPY.jpg

Since I was doing some body filler I figured I might as well do some other low spots that needed attention, man this body work is hard work and messy but anyway this is what I get done so far ...

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/7248/yY6NLf.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/1668/BHj1L0.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/4159/Gr3RBb.jpg

Oh yeah, I pushed the car to access the passenger side and dented the quarter panel on the card table, so I had to fix that with a hammer and dolly and some filler ... the card table is NOT in the garage any more!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/3481/PJIhsR.jpg

I did get a headlamp bucket recondition kit but the plastic inserts for the horizontal and vertical adjustment broke .... so I'll work on the front end and get the electrical all sorted out this week I hope.

Thanks for looking and keep being socially responsible ....

How did you like the 4.5" disk? I have their 8" disk and its helped me out a ton with my roof.

The 4.5 was just right for the lower fender. I never used one so I watched a lot of videos and knew not to rush the heat and cool cycle for best results. I didn't use air or water to cool just time and the results were great.

Been in the house for a week and when the temps are good ... it's Camaro time!!

The goal was to get the front end wiring verified with installed equipment and power, well that was the goal ... seems my AAW headlight switch is defective. I cannot get the switch shaft to lock in the headlight switch ...grrrr.

So working on the Dapper lighting LED 7", the lights were great it's the mounting hardware that went south, seems the plastic inserts for the adjustments were brittle and broke on me, ordered more Friday ...

Anywho, I worked on the grille assembly today to only find the powder coater smashed the upper grille assembly mounting flanges closed. So I straightened it mostly to get her installed but she'll need more tweaking ... the simple stuff that kicks your arse!!!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img922/4669/e9JGCh.jpg

So glad I bought my OEM grille assembly back in '98 (Ummm $79.95) and this is the first time she's been mounted (that sounds awkward) but things lined up pretty well ...

Really liking the blacked-out look of the grille and headlights ... now if I can only get power to them :headspin: Thought I had the screws for the headlight bezels but I can't find them right now ...

Looks great, I love the look of the dark headlights! You might double check me, but if I remember right from when I did my AAW kit, AAW made a big deal about installing their headlight switch, specifically with regard to the knob/shaft Assy. Not sure if that helps but might be worth an internet search to see about any special tricks. I don’t recall anything especially different when doing mine, but thought it was worth a mention. Your progress is amazing, keep up the good work!
