I have been on many sites and have seen Greg Weld's many posts. What happened to him? Also, other than a great guy posting his knowledge and great builds, who is he? Sorry if I am out of the "know."

Greg Weld was one of a kind. I huge staple in this community who was quick to help in anyway shape or form. Whether it be building cars or investing money - he would help anybody. He was a great guy to be around and sorely missed by so many! He unfortunately passed away from cancer.

Thanks for the update. That's too bad. I noticed that he was always helping. Was he related to Weld Wheels?

Refresher on the motor... I bought this motor from Shaver Racing. It's a 502 short block, 9.5-1, balanced, blue printed, mild Isky Roller, Pro Topline Heads and Hogan Intake. Very docile in comparison of what others are doing. Made 586 hp and 602 ft lbs torque. Been sitting so long my son and I decided to tear it down, clean it up and put it back together. 7751977520775217752277523

Spent some time tuning up the intake before sending it out for powder coating. Rounding corners and making a nice intake a little better. Time to move onto the motor. Polish the entire block....... 775257752677527775287752977530

After a fair amount of grinding and smoothing got everything sent off to powder coating... Everything is going Satin black except the wheel centers. Those will be going Titanium with a satin clear. Inside hoops will be going Satin black and the outside hoops will remain polished to blend with all of the factory bright work. 775317753277534775357753677537

Got everything back from powdercoating. After 17 years the first completed pieces.

I bought one of these Shop Grips from Notchead for polishing bolts. This thing is slick. Bought all of the collets to do 1/4" - 1/2". Will come in very handy polishing all of the hardware for this thing.

I also stumbled across a great company www.extsw.com They make all kinds of special washers, spacers etc. Their quality is incredible. I had them make me a bunch of 5/16 and 3/8 washers that are recessed for ARP bolts for various locations throughout the car. Also they make spacers in various sizes which is great for suspension and bracket needs.

Hope to have the front done this weekend and start on the rear. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/a0c86acef78dd4b07242d38b7645dcf7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/bbf3e29a25e98ef0b9bede321c7a25a7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/15205703e60e899467a66047b2d5aa7a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/86001c5bf8c625e4d5be600d07578079.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/1b0efeed2b007619893b37dbd476f030.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/dc351c104e0112de480d200861b73acb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/34cc16ae880a98866b05df4e159f5a81.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/90f462445537bbef34b09f7090d6d99c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220319/a4eb134036d1896c3773ff062feb1830.jpg

Making some progress... Aside from the tie rod ends (still waiting on them) got the front suspension buttoned up. Fuel tank mounted, fuel and brake lines mostly done. So nice I already made these, truly just putting the puzzle together now. Painted the master tonight so hopefully button up the brake lines this week. Next stop though rear suspension and brakes!! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/98a4243e28432b90b6bfda8f00c1d714.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/999c65424d5b8c68ece7f01a5e1eff6c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/30f837418182bcac14e89ec43071fdf7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/998ad4030ad6625624d6d31650eda441.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/d42a4edb4d3fe729e12336d2fb21e2fa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/e18711fd173cb7e87d6391086954dfd0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/79a94b42956e971d25adf223aad58050.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220330/a2b0cce4ccd7e9428d2f3803e6ed9ad7.jpg

Had a very productive weekend!! Set out and accomplished everything I intended without a single hiccup. Got the rear end and all the suspension wrapped up. Third member, axles, emergency brake and rotors installed. Master cylinder and brake lines are also all wrapped up. Next up rear calipers and then move back to the front and button up the brakes. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/5fad1065e9a47f4ed09c112046e193e1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/97d3efc95912769c0d1f74a6dba8dc0e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/8e24444c2017480026d4e3c392b55d2f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/d1174956f5a495a50cfc46a82d22700e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/d1f2c4542b4b3a1d7ab222ba661184ca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/3bd4d462b626fc97292edef910e1157d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/83e9668a25c7927e7501c351f0202d1e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/dab51ef3bd692dafef732da1ac80adad.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/d8d5a8eb83176a29489d4a779f0894f5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220404/9927ce2048caaaed37bf3074e05bf42f.jpg

Aside from bleeding, I got the brakes and brake lines all wrapped up. Baer Brakes make such a nice set up. These are their 14" 6 piston Street set up at all 4 corners. This is the first build I have used stainless for the lines and fittings. In the past I've used aluminum fittings which can be a little forgiving to help seal. Knowing how hard stainless can be, I bought this slick tool Surseat by Koul tools. It basically hones the seat area of the flare to help create a smooth seal on the fitting. Very slick and easy to use. Got all of the calipers installed and shimmed accordingly. Weren't bad at all to be honest. Also got the steering all wrapped up. 2nd round of powder coating will be done this week. Then I can assemble the wheels, get tires and have a roller.

I’d have a real tough time personally to make it 2-tone.:)

Is it still the plan to have this paint scheme?

Thanks…

Thanks…After much deliberation... I opted to not go 2 tone. Truth be told, it was a struggle. But I think single color will represent what I'm trying to do here by making it all business, if that makes sense?

Thanks!! Been along road coming for sure. Jim does amazing work. In regards to the trim.. Yes.. I'm leaving all of the trim on the car, except the bird on the hood and smoothed the trunk. This is a 210 so it does not have as much trim as the Bel Air.

Been making some progress the past couple weeks. Got the motor back from Horsepower by Geralomy. He just cleaned it and checked it all out. Gave it a fresh hone and good valve job. Our resident "Grand Poo Bah" Jody Bernard gave me hand putting it all back together. I then primed it a couple times and gave a couple coats of satin black and spent quite a bit of more time polishing hardware. Motor is done now. Joey, my youngest, and I put the heads on it the other day and adjusted the valves. Exhaust is out getting Cerakoated. Transmission and driveline is all buttoned up. Just a simple 4L80E with the typical mods with a 10" Pro-Torque 2800 stall lock up converter. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/6dd3ea07e98a5e7e9fe47af94cb94621.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/47a6a6b3ad940f5a74d3e8dbbabec2a9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/c85d8f62e09a4ccb39f5c0a58bcf8007.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/a79c9641d8269359b5cc43016d1fe6bd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/5abd27ec34212a01c7c1ab4ad8272617.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/004edf859e279fcf622dc483cf7ef38e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/5d57f67967bb2a2df3545850a866ec55.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/7db197081675d5211360743565dcc94a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/4c34092cee404a6abde68fa47ad726bc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220619/dfeb20c6c04dc6b0dc42413110e0a514.jpg

To say I've been burning the midnight oil lately is an understatement. I'm trying to get my stuff wrapped up on the chassis before I take it down to put the body on this weekend. The last few nights have been productive.....https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/c1d13465d424d12f27979115cacd47d2.jpgI'm using Big Stuff 3 engine and transmission management system which utilizes a coil on plug system. I mounted all the coils under the radiator cradle. I made brackets which mounted all of the wiring for the coil packs, spark plugs and crank trigger along the block. Trying my best to hide all of the wiring.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/2e183c115b508b8aeb905d285dad8469.jpgPowdercoated the intake and fuel rails satin black. Today I assembled it all back together.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/ef03a6b41e90bb584ace32dbfe820e9b.jpgCleaned up the look of the fuel injectors. Used a piece of heat shrink tubing to cover the housing for a cleaner look. Truth be told I stole this from another builder Troy Trepanier. [emoji6]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/db7a6261241ff18e700e63272cd7e9ff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/0ef93ab6aa5a43477bdfb9f554a35233.jpgThe look I've been attempting to go with the motor is more of an industrial , functional piece of machinery. Just added a little bit of bling to make it pop a little. Very happy with the results thus far....https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/fbf50736d17b71ef0e7221499ce77732.jpgPicked up the exhaust Monday after having it Cerakoated. Once the wiring was finalized I got the headers and exhaust installed.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/d0ea3ea61bbfbf65e08e13df4994a407.jpgYou can see the harness plug near the oil filter. Something so simple, per se, took hours to get all figured out and packaged away from everything. It's all in the details...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/8399e9826bfcf5fa11a985ce455d50ad.jpgTonight I got the intake, throttle body, valvecovers, thermostat housing, etc all done.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/c51ab203863330d48ae5838b5b216dd7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220623/4d8302fe01bb558e873c1e6255df4253.jpg

So when I embarked on this 55 Chevy 18 years ago, this guy was right (on the right) there helping me make this thing become reality. We spent many hours together the first few years of the build. Unfortunately the car sat idle more times than I care to think. Although he has since moved to Texas he came out and spent the past 10 days out here helping assemble this bucket of bolts. Can't thank him enough for taking time out to come back to California. Always a pleasure. The family loved spending time with him as well. I regret not getting a picture of us by the car to reminisce a little. Did get one of him and my Dad though..

My youngest got all of the Boom Mat installed and wiring is well on its way. The panel and main harness is done for the most part. Now I'm onto the Big Stuff 3 Motor/Transmission management system. Lots to do in this arena. From the ECU to the injectors, sensors and COP system I'm having to take it all apart, cut and reterminate most everything for a cleaner and simpler look. Strongly recommend Ballenger Motorsports for plugs and terminals. They have great to deal with!!

Once I get everything done and it is running I will come back and wrap it all in loom.788297883078831788327883378835788367883878839

Well... Once again been lagging on the updates but still pushing on it.. At this stage I'm about 85% done with the wiring! Still need to button up some a few things in that department and tighten it up a bit... But coming out to my liking. I made a bolt in panel above the steering column that mounts all of the Dakota Digital module as well as the fan relays. Knowing how many things need constant hot, 12V switched hot and grounds - you will see in the middle of panel I set installed separate "Buses" if you for each. The top one is Constant Hot, the middle one switched hot & the bottom one is for grounds. There are covers that will go over each one when I'm done. The BigStuff3 management system is mounted to the right. The motor & trans wiring is 100% done! Just need to detail the fuel tank, install it, make a couple lines in the rear and hopefully make some noise!

Jim (aka The Painter) came by last weekend and we got the doors and trunk lid on. He did an amazing job on this. I can't thank him enough!! You can see him in the reflection!!! [emoji6]79908799097991079911799127991379914

Once again... Lagging on the updates... But still plugging away. Started putting the bright work on the car. Very happy with the way it pops off this color! After finishing the back side of the fenders with bedliner material we got them hung. Starting to look like something. Notice the body line we extended from the fender into the door 17" to mimic Bel Air molding. Headlights installed went with Dapper Lighting OE7. These are extremely nice units. And their customer service was second to none. More progress last weekend.. Installed the full stainless grill. So much nicer than the factory chrome grill. Built the grill support to be over the grill versus factory the grill goes over the top of it. Much cleaner this way IMO. The holes next to the bump stops are for the hood pins. They're mounted in the hood and get pinned through the grill. Hood supports are done and installed as well. Really like the way the brightwork pops off this color. Front end is done!!

Also, had Chad Fellabaum @CCTEK making a cover for the end of the air cleaner. The last pics are of the 3D printed prototype he made. We wanted to mimic the angles on the valvecovers. Fits like a glove. Can't thank him enough!! Now to make the final product and finish it in black.

Onto the side glass and wrap up the wiring inside....

Well, this past Sunday was a monumental day for me - and the family. Took the 55 on it's maiden voyage. With a fair amount of idle time, due to my job and raising kids - this car has been in the works for 20 years come February. To say that I am overwhelmed with emotions seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is an understatement. Very please with the outcome. I still have a few minor things to do inside like stereo wires and cables to run - but aside from that it is ready for the interior shop - which it goes off to this month.

Wow that's fantastic. I went back to page and laughed, yup, 20 years. I think I might remember when this was a new thread that I liked to follow.

Here's wishing the juice is worth the squeeze !

I wonder if being done, your left with a hole in your life where worrying/planning/thinking about the car no longer occupies your head.

Well no matter this is a huge milestone congratulations !

Thanks!! I've thought about the "whole what am I going to do now" thing. The wife has went along on this journey and has been more than supportive, so it will be time to return the favor.

Well, been forever since I updated this thread. Life has been a little nuts with work, moved, kids, and still trying to push along this bucket of bolts. Car is making some serious strides at the interior shop. As you will see in the pics. He is working on the back seats and package tray right now. Those will be wrapped up by the weekend. Seats will be tan with maybe some black accents. We will wait and what the car tells us. Then the front seats and carpet. He is doing an amazing job!

The front speaker enclosure houses HEX Diamond Audio Separates and Crossover. We are going to make new speaker grills that will be flush mounted.

You can see in the B pillar I installed 3 point belts. All of the window trim will be painted satin black to match the leather.

The AC vents will be going across the mid section of the dash. Having a panel made that will house these vents.

Well, Monday night was another milestone! Finally brought the car home from Interior. Seats are not done yet, but it was at a point I could take the car home and continue my mission. Now, crunch time begins! I have kept this on the down low for a while – but I’m at point I feel comfortable sharing. After 20 years in the making, I’m beyond excited and honored the 55 will be making its debut at SEMA Nov 5-8 in the Mother’s Polish Booth. We have quite the laundry list of things to get done, but I have a posse (that I am truly blessed to have) in my corner that has stepped up to make this dream come to fruition!

It's been a couple of days since I got back from SEMA. I have had plenty of time to reflect on how blessed I am. As most know, I've been working on this car for 20 years. It's been a long road, and there is no way I could have done this without the support and understanding of my wife, Diane, and both my boys James and Joey. For that, THANK YOU! I'm beyond grateful that we were all there together for the debut at SEMA. Something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

To all the members, who some I've become good friends with, and some who I now consider family - THANK YOU as well! Have learned so much from the likes of many members here. I can't thank you enough.

I also want to talk about my experience of SEMA flying under the Mother’s Polish Banner. These people are pure class!! Their hospitality was unmatched! They truly treated all of us like family and made this special occasion more than we could have ever imagined. They did a full paint correct and cermaic coat on the car. The difference was remarkable! Their products and expertise took this car to the next level. Mother's Polish for the win!

It's been a hell of a ride! Feels good to finally be here. Notice I said here.. and not done. [emoji1787] It was done enough for SEMA, but it was not fully done. Still need to install side mirrors, charge the AC, and button up a few loose ends. I also need to get a final tune in it and shake it out. Next year will be great getting it out there and driving it.

Took a couple months off after the SEMA thrash. Took the car yesterday and took some pics and videos at our local airport. Here are just a few I thought I would share. Love the color. Pops in the sun and turns a dark merlot in the shade. It's back in the garage for the winter to handle some new car bugs and button up a few things. We'll be ready to roll come Spring time and have some fun. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/b3f40cf11b1eda56e3cea965502dd5e9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/923855ff7c832fd1d8a7debf8e9267b8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/08230614b34c004876f836c96df7b997.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/816cb2356f402d891f5d75b6b66ac960.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/323a070d76e01c79b67252d5b5f880ff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/157d0e944832df8ee0976b52cee54b82.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/970a44823de011aa201aec1c57dc5303.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/a6986e59bf4fcd1544435299475ed209.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250107/a2f5bc972e4f6524391d7e36dbb920d1.jpg

Not bad, for 10 miles, Lol! I may play with the spring rates. It's a little firm, but everything is new, so it might loosen up a little. Still need to get it tuned, aligned and a few others things worked out.
