Just spray in bed liner. Was going to use Lizard Skin but wanted something more durable and black (without painting it after application). I'll be putting in dynamat so thermal/noise insulation will be taken care of.

Depending on Tim's availability, I may try to be there around 4:30 today.

I'm there most Fridays now. Not sure if I'm going to make this Friday as I have plans to go to Texas Invitational in Dallas.

Tim can attest, i'm there all the time. I'm determined to spin some wrenches on this thing. GAP is letting me do so, so I've found a perfect partner for this project.

We got some parts on order today (big parts) and measured for the rear wheels for the tire I want to run. I'm excited!

Are you warmer with a jacket on? Not to be sarcastic (well just a little), but I blew a high compression MC motor after I powdercoated the barrels. Heat dissipation is best done with bare metal.

True! Powdercoat is placed in an oven to melt the powder which flows and fuses into a continuous hard, non-porous coating. While paint is appplied differently, it is never put in an oven, but if you paint it to thick then it creates a thermal barrier on metal. A friend painted a radiator back in 1990 with single stage paint in based on the body color, and I never had any problems with overheating.

Now, Dewitts has developed a new coating called Black Ice and the coating is formulated to give you the black look of original radiator, without the problem of heat transfer with traditional paint. http://www.dewitts.com/products/blackice

Thanks for the info on the coating. I would be sure it's coating doesn't have a huge impact on the cooling. Otherwise it stays bare. No way id powdercoat it. That was the core support option only.

Thanks for the compliments on the heads.

There is a few articles about the Dewitts black ice, and .002 thickness is nothing. Stielow is using a Dewitts Radiator on Camaro XV, and I am sure he use that as well. If you leave it bare, then you might want to polish it. Of course, you always be polishing those parts.

Oh, I paint the core support too. I have tried powder coat in the past on my rear end. The powdercoat base and clear cracked, so we ended up sanding it down and repainting it. I had no problems with the paint on the rear end.

I couldn't wait to see how these wheels looked on te car so I took the day off and rushed up to DV8motoring.com's headquarters to pick up my new wheels.

I took them to GAP Racing to test fit on the car and be sure everything fit the way it was supposed to. Everything looked perfect!

After the test fit was complete, I went back to DV8motoring.com's shop and mounted/balanced the tires!
http://i.imgur.com/fE7WPZr.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/MDLz9o7.jpg

Then it was back to GAP to assemble the rotors (preliminary, need to safety wire still), And put the wheels on to test fit with tires.

Now for the wheels on the car! Please dont mind the suspension settings. We've got some work to do to level the car out.
This is pretty much the stance I'm wanting for the rear wheel and it looks like it'll work.

So I went to visit the motor and pick up a few things from GAP to work on over the weekend. Unfortunately didn't make it very far with the car work as things always got in the way.

Took the cover off and snapped some photos of the wrapped up LSX427!

http://i.imgur.com/iwtDz37.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/JbVatpk.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/h1Ok184.jpg

I got the corner pickups and set the pumps in the Ricks Tank and it looks good. Planning out the fuel system and what pieces I need to buy.
http://i.imgur.com/ToyC4wr.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/O4Z8UmK.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/gF6ZVKj.jpg

I did run into a snag, and that was the CTS-V module needs to be modified for the corner pickups. I hadn't seen this previously (it was available online, just hadn't looked), as I assumed it would fit.
http://i.imgur.com/UAi6OoQ.jpg

The fix is relatively simple and I may try to come up with something else in order to make it retain stock module for easier swap out in the future.

Beyond that I made a little time this weekend to go grab a few craft brews at Jester King.
http://i.imgur.com/Cy3NOom.jpg

Also made a trip to see the new addition to the family. She's a mini aussie and her name is Emma. She's 4 weeks old currently so still a bit of time before we get to bring her home. She's second from the left (blue merle).

Got the remaining. It's for the engine ordered. Will be here in a few days. Can was a hard decision but with KP's help we picked one out! Custom grind 247/251 .624/.624 on a 118! Should be pretty rowdy!

William

will69camaro
06-17-2014, 07:00 AM
Cam was sent but was ground wrong by comp (on a 114+2 instead of a 118)...They ground a new cam yesterday and was overnighted so hoping it's here today! I'll work with GAP to get the engine assembled as I will now have all the parts.

In other news, I went to working on the car finally in my garage. Ran into a few issues with the painter's assembly that caused some headache. He ran up the stainless hardware with no antiseize. Bolts on the core support were locked up and the support wasn't even tight!

http://i.imgur.com/FZ2r2gX.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/SrctpIC.jpg

I think it's safe to say that bolt isn't "tight." But here's another shot for good measure.

http://i.imgur.com/ZR3e52K.jpg

It however was most definitely locked up!

http://i.imgur.com/lrJRrEP.jpg

I got one out then broke the socket on the second one. You can tell by this bolt that the hardware was installed dry and had galling.

http://i.imgur.com/A6rQr1I.jpg

Oh well, the show must go on! Got some bigger tools and had a friend come over to extract the last bolt holding my old core support in.

http://i.imgur.com/8F6eYkl.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/jmA7lEe.jpg

Success! (Dont mind that it's a little dusty, it's being cleaned up)

http://i.imgur.com/d1mFLvL.jpg

Now time to fit test the new AutoRad piece!

http://i.imgur.com/eQZqgmx.jpg

Yep, that looks pretty good.

http://i.imgur.com/WBesZrJ.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Y4rf8sF.jpg

Intercoolers had some interference but I should have seen that coming. Pass-through pipes were left long intentionally to give us flexibility. Just a little TOO long to get them mounted up. That's an easy fix.

http://i.imgur.com/bRvBGBp.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/LBUYbj9.jpg

They will look good once they're on there!

http://i.imgur.com/37UGWjC.jpg

I plan to put the front end back on (temporarily) tonight and take some pics of the pieces raw behind the grille. Trying to make my mind whether to coat or leave it bare. To be honest, I'm liking this look right now.

It'll be a few days before I cut those pipes and put the IC on, so front will be coming back off, but that's ok. This was just a mock up test anyway :)

It'd be slightly less frustrating had I done it. However it was installed by a person I paid to do it and expected to be competent enough to do it right (painter). Luckily GAP is helping me out and has another pair of bolts for me to use!

Got started on the motor. Unfortunately I had expected the TSP shortblock to come with head dowel pins. So heads will be going on Monday after I get dowels from a dealer...

Here are some progress pics:

http://i.imgur.com/5mgDNRs.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/6J8ot7Z.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/c2AeyjY.jpg

That was the end of engine work. Got the cam installed, front end of the motor on, and waiting on dowel pins. I have everything I need to (aside from those pins) to get it all together.

Went to put the front end on the car and ran into a few problems. Test fitting everything with the core support so some small issues were expected.
This is how it started.
http://i.imgur.com/eQZqgmx.jpg

Then came the front sheet metal (got a few chips on the way). I think there is a problem with paint adhesion on this car. Was very gentle with everything and in some areas the paint just flakes.
http://i.imgur.com/R76vnEH.jpg

DAMN YOU CHIP!
http://i.imgur.com/ACwN7u4.jpg

Beyond that there was a more serious issue. I put it all together and put the front spoiler on for the first time and noticed the lower valence has issues the painter was SUPPOSED to fix and didnt.
http://i.imgur.com/hYattbd.jpg

Keep in mind spoiler is new. valence is dented at the mounting point and above the spoiler (just below the fog light) about the entire length of the valence. I will be getting a new one and getting it painted to match the car. Considering aftermarket options now to help get air moving into the intercooler/radiator area.

Drivers side (how it's supposed to look)
http://i.imgur.com/JbnOk43.jpg

Passenger side (obviously damaged valence)
http://i.imgur.com/mfYAAG5.jpg

That's where we're at today. Front being on has me wanting to leave the core support raw aluminum. I think (at the advice of friends) I'll paint the back side black to match the engine bay, but I'll leave the front raw aluminum.

Its never ending!

Pretty much no change except a few more things ordered and arrived (nothing too exciting) and dynamat installed inside the car. Have a few more areas to cover but for the most part that's ready to go.

Sadly nothing of note lately. Need to get back on it and hoping to this Friday. Talking with Tim at GAP and hoping to have my car back up there this weekend possibly and see if we can get the driveline installed so we can start some of the final fabrication work required.

I did see Nelson Racing released that intake, but only as part of the kit so unless they surprise me at SEMA with individual availability of it, then I'll have to plan another route.

Sorry for the long overdue update. Not a lot has been happening as I've been busy with work.

I went with Tim and GAP Racing to SEMA and entered the JRi shock contest...

Well:

Looks like my suspension will change a little and the shocks will be changed out with the ride height adjustable coilover setup. Hoping to work out a deal with JRi and get some adjustable coilovers with the ride height adjustment.

The car was picked up this week (front sheet metal removed) and taken back to GAP Racing.

If you are going that route then I suggest you order them as soon as possible. It took 8 months for me to get mine and I have been waiting for almost 6 months for some smaller pieces. The quality and customer service is top notch, but the lead time for parts will drive you crazy. :hairpullout:

Car got on the lift at GAP so we could do a little more work to it:
http://i.imgur.com/eJSP8f1.jpg

First up was installing the RSG Tranzilla. Was simple to do with the quicktime bellhousing and the hooker crossmember. Looks like some MINOR modifications needed to the crossmember to allow the mount to sit down fully.

After putting it in the air and taking a look at it, I can tell i'm going to cut the bottom of the bellhousing flange so it's not hanging so low. Dont want to risk snagging that on the road when driving. That would be devastating!
http://i.imgur.com/mjmGyh5.jpg

After that I got the tank installed in the car. Still need to snug the straps up a little bit it looks good :) Got both CTS-V pumps modified and in the tank pointing the way I want. Looking forward to taking full advantage of this system!

Will get some pics hopefully tomorrow. Aside from needing to SLIGHTLY modify it to let my mount sit down enough to bolt it I think it's a nice piece.

Will mess with it some more to see if I can avoid modifying it. Either way. Worst case will be slot the mounting holes. It fits excellent otherwise.

TheJDMan
01-31-2015, 06:29 PM
William,
I was looking at that crossmember I think it is Hooker PN 12626HKR but I can't tell for sure how it mounts to the frame rail. Do you have some shots of where it mounts to the subframe on each side? It looks like it mounts on top of the frame rail on one side and the bottom of the frame rail on the other side.

As for trimming the bottom of the bell housing flange. Hold off. I have the same BH and frankly it has not been a problem on Dust Off. I would recommend driving the car a while before cutting it. Once it is cut the BH is no longer SFI certified. Just saying.

cwylie
01-31-2015, 06:44 PM
It mounts on the top on both sides in the factory location. I am using the same mount.

will69camaro
02-05-2015, 05:55 AM
Cwylie is correct. Mounts on top of the frame. Part number I am unsure but it's the only one I know of made by holley/hooker.

As for the bellhousing, we'll see. I am aware the sfi certification would be void but I consider that a much lower penalty than what will happen if it snags a bump.

Long overdue update...

Well not even sure where to start so I'll start as far back as I know I haven't posted up on here.

We had some clashing issues with the SW headers and the Precision Metalcraft valve covers, so the decision was made that one of the two had to give...
http://i.imgur.com/PvXlRj1.jpg

While we were doing that work I bought the transition section for the GT35R inlet and the headers were modified and welded. Much better fitment now than before!

http://i.imgur.com/7RM9moU.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/lp8Zqn2.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ExRQsfn.jpg

After that was completed, I decided I'd give the Holley Hi-Ram a shot as I am woried my composite intake will give up when we start pushing 20+ psi through the engine.
http://i.imgur.com/nXEFiKv.jpg

Wait a second...That doesn't look like it'll work...
http://i.imgur.com/eaF4hRz.jpg

The tape measure is the top of the fender line...Not even close.
http://i.imgur.com/sYh4nsC.jpg

Good thing it was only a test fit and I hadn't spent the money on the Hi-Ram yet...Time to drop a little more coin. This kind of thing is how the project got the name "Might as Well." Details: RCI Billet Runner intake
http://i.imgur.com/sk46bOA.jpg

Time to change up the dash that I picked up for it. Got some holes to fill so the new display will work.

Next I took on the task of installing the JRi Ride Height Coilovers I won at SEMA!
http://i.imgur.com/05jhnGS.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/tsBbVYB.jpg

I set them to see how LOW they could go first. Front looks good, but maybe a touch low for where i want it. In the picture I have about 2" of compression travel before it would contact the bump stop.
http://i.imgur.com/WnbvheC.jpg

Rear IMO is MUCH to high!
http://i.imgur.com/57MVkxp.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/T6O8Djn.jpg

Working with JJ at JRi, we got a different set of springs coming. Took out the 8" spring and went to a 6" spring. I did a little testing to see where i needed the car to sit for the look I wanted. Both springs were removed and I jacked the car to where i wanted, which will give about 2" of rear travel before the bump stop. I may raise it a little from there, we'll see how it ends up riding.
http://i.imgur.com/TOyJQtt.jpg

While I was waiting on springs, I used the help from this board to pick a steering wheel size and what adapters to go with! NRG short hub adapter was the first to arrive.
http://i.imgur.com/FSk509X.jpg

Soon followed by the NRG Gen 2.8 quick disconnect.
http://i.imgur.com/B7puRou.jpg

And finally the Momo Race wheel arrived.
http://i.imgur.com/zLzZt0V.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/r8yYZOo.jpg

The 6" springs arrived from JRi and I put them in the car and set it as low as it would go to get a starting point. Seems right in line with what I wanted. It will come up about 1-1.25" from here (maybe). In the picture I have about 1" shock compression travel only, so will need to raise it some.
http://i.imgur.com/aHCijYX.jpg

I also got the steering wheel and quick disconnect installed as well as the steering shaft so the car can officially turn by using the wheel! First time in ages!
http://i.imgur.com/KZkHdrr.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/yw4xTss.jpg

Now the front has been taken off and the car set on the ground for the future work.
http://i.imgur.com/EctcwNc.jpg

From here, the motor will be pulled out and the firewall will be finished up. Motor/Trans and all the front sheet metal will be going back on the car in the next week-ish, so the car can go to another shop to have the turbo kit finished up. Appointment for the turbo shop is 8/17 so we have a lot to do to get it ready to go over there, but I'm confident that we will get it there. The fab shop said approximately 2-3 days to do the hot/cold side piping and then it will be back to have the finishing work done.

Thanks Bob. I've always had a thing for the orange ones also. This car wasn't orange when I got it in 1997 but it was in 1969 from the factory. Returning it to it's former glory (with a few changes on the way).

I put a quick release on the Pantera a while back
that was for security when I traveled. Take the wheel into
the room at night. It also gave me more room for my long
legs since it moved the wheel closer to me. I hated it at first
because I felt too cramped in my arms. I almost took it off
but finally got used to it

The car has been put on the ground with driveline in and sent to the turbo shop to have the piping done.

Still waiting on the RCI intake. Should be shipping in the next day or so.

Well talking to Kevin at M2K, it does look like those intercoolers will be a restriction so looking at going BIGGER.

Little disappointed that AutoRAD knew the power goals with the car and said no problem only to give a setup that looks like it'll support about 850hp at the flywheel (625cfm/ea). This was the biggest they could run and keep the stock hood brace, but the stock hood brace doesn't fit with these either.

I understand typically the people that they're building a setup like this for are "1000hp" but never push the car much, and I cant fault them for that.

M2K is going to be upgrading the cores from 7" x 11" x 3" (625cfm rated) to 10" x 15" x 3.5" (945cfm/ea) and may try to push it a little bigger if we can. And build a hood support and latch to work off the intercoolers since they're rigidly mounted.

New sized intercoolers should have me efficiently covered up to around 1300hp at the flywheel which is right in line with what I'm hoping it will make!

Does anyone have any advice or leads on what to use for a hood latch? I like the ones I'm seeing posted on Lou's Change and Stielow's cars but cant find much detail on the latch itself and how they made it work. I saw one that was on screaming performance
http://screaminperformance.com/images/67-69%20camaro%20hood%20latch%20assy2.JPG but it appears they're out of stock...

Any help there?

Yea it's funny, Casey (MEENAggie) already sent me that link in a PM. Doing a little more research and seeing if M2K can build a bracket off of the intercoolers to hold the hood latch and just eliminate the vertical brace all together!

I like the idea of an internal hood release.

Yours was April 2014, so it's needs a bit of surgery.

No problem I will shoot it your way as i believe it's still wrapped up in the box you sent to me last time! Should be simple!

The pump in the Hellcat module is a 267 but the output is reduced to about 318lph due to jet pump needs. Fitting the Hellcat module is tough due to the angled hat.

So few questions on this. I see Fore Innovations as mark suggested can make a 2 and 3 pump configuration for the 267 pump. Questions that came up I have are:

Those will no longer be PWM correct?
The primary pump (CTS-V) will retain PWM and then will be full time when the second pump setup comes on correct?
Am I still limited on fuel pressure if I do a Fore innovations pump hat with 267s as the CTS-V pump is limited to 65psi? I'm sure the 267 can support more, but if the V pump cant it will dump back through that to the tank correct?

Thanks,
William

The 267's will be PWM'ed but perhaps on a separate controller. If I can get my hands on a Fore twin setup it's easy for me to test to see if all of them can be done on one controller. We're already doing twin and triple 267's returnless with a VaporWorx controller.

The CTS-V has a safety valve that limits line pressure to no more than 74psi, but it starts to bleed at 64-65psi. What can be done here is to put an inline check valve just after the CTS-V outlet (before it T's into the 267's but after the CTS-V pressure sensor). Once the 267's pressure increases to the point that the flow reverses to the CTS-V, it will shut. Once the downstream pressure reduces, the valve opens and the CTS-V comes online.

So, with the check valve, line pressure can increase (including manifold referenced.) Just be aware of the pump performance at the intended pressure, and if in doubt, have it flow tested.

One key function that the Fore setup has is the crossover connection. This "bleed" is needed for low fuel demand conditions, so don't plug it.

The difficult part of all this is the low-flow/idle/cruise requirement. We're talking systems that require up to 60a to drive at WOT, but not overheat the fuel during cruise/idle in a true returnless system. Considering that fuel pumps are typically in the 1/3 efficientcy range, that's a lot of heat to disipate unless the pumps are PWM controlled and staged.

When I get to that point, if it looks like I'll have issues with two CTS-V pumps, even with a BAP, I am willing to send the pump modules directly to you (even a CTS-V) so we can test flow and compatability to run on one controller.

The CTS-V has a safety valve that limits line pressure to no more than 74psi, but it starts to bleed at 64-65psi. Once the 267's pressure increases to the point that the flow reverses to the CTS-V, it will shut. Once the downstream pressure reduces, the valve opens and the CTS-V comes online.

The only issue I see here, is my second set of pumps (2-3 267's) will need to support the full fuel demands of the power. If a check valve shuts to stop the backflow through the CTS-V, then that pump is providing no benetif. If that's the case, why use the CTS-V pump in the first place if the 267's can be made to run PWM and support the power. Just a thought.

So, with the check valve, line pressure can increase (including manifold referenced.) Just be aware of the pump performance at the intended pressure, and if in doubt, have it flow tested.

Good to know. That would definitely be priority for as mentioned concern about the pump performance above (267's providing all fueling at big power application)

One key function that the Fore setup has is the crossover connection. This "bleed" is needed for low fuel demand conditions, so don't plug it.

How does that crossover connection ("bleed") help with low fuel demand? I haven't researched it much so asking for explanation on my ignorance.

This is the benefit of your controller correct? Allows the PWM usage on the pump and keep heat down in the fuel system.

This is the benefit of your controller correct? Allows the PWM usage on the pump and keep heat down in the fuel system.

Correct, the PWM function does:

1) Reduce heat. For most constant pressure systems it is typically a 50% reduction. Manifold referenced is usually around 66% reduction.

2) Electronic pressure regulation.

3) Returnless. No pressure regulator, return lines, etc.

4) Increase pump life.

Twin 267's on their own may be enough to feed your build, triple for sure, but there's no good way around the CTS-V pressure limitation if it to be added to the total fuel flow unless the pressure is under 65psi. The purpose of the single CTS-V is that since it has a reservoir to contain the fuel around the pumps and jet pumps to keep it full, it will allow for very low liquid level driving. The 267's would only come on when needed.

Some fuel needs to move through the pump during PWM. In traditional mechanical regulator setups the pump basically blasts past the regulator and the excess fuel returned to the tank. In this case, the column in front of the pump is compressible. For returnless, everything in front of the module outlet is essentially incompressible at no/low fuel demand since there is no return (mechanical regulator spring.) At very low fuel demand, especially at key on/low/idle, this means the pump is trying to push against an incompressible column. This causes the pump to chug. The fluid pressure downstream of the pump (pressure sensor) is low enough to allow PWM operation to start, but there is not enough volume for the pump to have smooth continious operation. Hence, pressure spikes, the PWM turns off, pressure drops, PWM on...... to the tune of about 10hz, all the while the pump is jumping like crazy. In the fuel module the jet pumps allow enough fuel to bypass for continious smooth operation. For twin 267's, the jet pump connection, which is also powered by high-pressure fuel, performs the same function.

The trick here is that the 267's are a different animal than the CTS-V, so different controller tuning is needed. "Tuning" may seem like a simple deal, but when dealing with these kinds of power levels while demanding smooth operation, it's boatloads of work. That's why testing a combination of CTS-V + 267's would be needed for validation.

Understood. Talking to m2k I think I'll run the two v pumps for now. See how they like boost and the power limitations. The. When the time comes, look at 2-3 267s and send those and v pump and controller to you for testing!

Ctsv pump seems maybe more suited for driving on a regular basis and have check valve and big pumps for big power. Can ramp pressure up on pump to offset boost pressure!

Manifold referenced can be done with any of the current VaporWorx controllers. The standard controller is tuned for 3bar, but tunes are available for other sensors (1, 2, 2.5, etc.) As a testament to just how good the ID injectors are, Mark is running 1200's at a static 65psi with good idle control.

Oh yea I know Injector Dynamics makes an awesome injector. Talked to Tony Palo and a tech at ID before swapping my 1300s out for 1700s!

They said idle may be a little tougher with the 1700 but what can you expect for an injector of that size!

I have made some progress on the turbo side of things and some more changes yet again.

Changes include:

Intercooler Upgrade - Support more power as old ones were a little small...
ID1700 to replace ID1300 - Support power on E85 if I decide to go that route. Went larger to assist with injector performance with lower fuel pressure (system capped at 65psi)
Hood Change (planned) - Wanted to change up the look a bit.
Hood pins instead of latch (planned) - Required for larger intercoolers. More I thought about it the less I trusted a makeshift hood latch. Rather be SURE the hood will stay shut!

After some further discussion with Kevin at M2K and the Gerhard at Bell intercoolers, we discovered the old setup was only efficient to about 850hp (flywheel). We upgraded those cores from 7x11x3" cores to 11x15x3.5" cores. These are capable of efficiently supporting 1250 hp (flywheel). M2K will be building the tanks for these today and integrating them to the mounting positions on my radiator.

This change required me to look at new latching for the hood as that was the restriction for the original intercooler sizing. I wasn't happy looking at making the typical style work that pro-touring guys use, which incorporates an early 90s VW latch system. So I decided to go with Aerocatch latches.
http://i.imgur.com/cR2LB1v.jpg

With this change I started kicking around the idea of changing out the hood to give the car a look to stand out a bit. I found a deal on an Anvil Carbon hood with bare underside (hybrid carbon / fiberglass construction).
http://i.imgur.com/O39T8Zr.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/XByrg4Q.jpg

It's a bare construction underneath so will be light and give a little more room for the intake. (Pictured is full carbon, mine will be fiberglass and painted satin black on the bottom side).
http://i.imgur.com/ebqWk2H.jpg?1

I am looking to add vents to this above the turbo to assist in letting that heat out and try to relieve pressure under the hood at high speed (keep the hood from pulling up). Pictured is the vents that will be used, but they will be relocated forward and outward to be directly above the turbos (the reason for the measurements earlier).

I am not. It will be put into the downpipe. Open WG are ok on race cars. I think street car would get annoying.

Agreed. They're awesome and Kevin (owner/fabricator) is as honest as it gets.

I made a set of those fender close out panels also. Couldn't believe how simple they were. Maybe if i can figure out a way to scan the template Ill post for everyone else to make. Mine uses the little hole in the fender and secured on the bottom.

Let me know what trim you might put around the edge of it to stop them from rattling on the inner fender

There has been some progress and hoping for some more this weekend.

Mounted the master cylinders on the new firewall and starting building the plan (and parts list) to get the brake lines completed.

http://i.imgur.com/4OBIWTR.jpg

Decided that building the brake lines on the rearend would be easier if it was out of the car, and have to pull it out anyway to change the gears out.

Crazy how dusty it's gotten over the years and travels from shop to shop.

http://i.imgur.com/iUFn5v5.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/uHQEJHD.jpg

I wiped down the housing and prepared it for the rear brake installation
http://i.imgur.com/lU1LjmZ.jpg

Brakes installed on both sides. This took some doing as I had lost the installation instructions, Tobin at Kore3 has since emailed them to me, so I will re-verify everything when I do final installation after the gear change this weekend.

http://i.imgur.com/0xPaTbA.jpg

Glad the wheel fits as I hadn't checked this previously. I was sure it would as the templates for the calipers had been sent to Forgeline when we spec'd the wheels.

http://i.imgur.com/v86ZQXC.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Gx8SSPD.jpg

While this was going on, I sold my old dash as it was going to cost more to fix it for a racepak, than to just buy a new one and sell the old one.

I will fill this with racepak and a/c vent(s) and a controller for the a/c and the various buttons/switches for the car.

http://i.imgur.com/P44mB8Q.jpg

Thanks to Ron Sutton, I have one of the new IQ3s Racepak. This is their new street friendly dash.

http://i.imgur.com/UuBd8cq.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zCoJU45.jpg

This weekend I will be installing the new ring gear in the rearend (3.50 to replace the 4.10). I will be installing the brake lines on the housing, assuming the tee fitting required arrives tomorrow (on time). The rearend will be put back under the car and secured for the final time!

I'm sure that will take me through this weekend, but if it doesn't, the car will be going back up on the cribs and I'll start working on the remaining brake lines.

One thought I've been kicking around, is about using a non-A/C dash with the vintage air unit and putting two vents on the dash. I'd be stealing a vent from my passenger, but i think they'll still be ok with one on the passenger side. What are your thoughts on this?

William

Good to see the car going back in the direction of assembly instead of more tear down.
Are you talking about splitting the two center air ducts and bringing one to the drivers side.
The vintage air has four individual ducts coming out of the unit. Two for the middle and one that goes to far driver side and one to the far passenger side.
:flag2:

Gears are swapped out and the 4.11's are listed for sale.

Diff will be put back in the housing today and rear re-assembled.

I did some pattern checking on pushrod length and all appears to be in good order so will button the motor back up after rearend is back together.

Hoping to get started on the rear brake lines tomorrow, then get that axle back in the car! REALLY hoping to have the motor back in the car in a couple weeks.

Changed the hardware on the engine mounts. One of the threads was jacked up, so there was one bolt on the drivers side missing (discovered when I pulled the motor).
http://i.imgur.com/j00CP6B.jpg

Figured since I'm changing them, I'd just put arp hardware.
http://i.imgur.com/tuffM37.jpg

As you could see in the previous picture. I got the moroso "roll control" (i.e. Line lock) installed.
http://i.imgur.com/s32DOFk.jpg

Everything is bolted with rivserts and 1/4-20 stainless caps head hardware.

Next up was placing the brake light pressure switch. Since I have the Wilwood pedals it's not as easy to adapt a plunger style brake light switch. This came highly recommended.
http://i.imgur.com/9hE0qj8.jpg

I build the simple line between the two of those.
http://i.imgur.com/6hKdzAS.jpg

Now starting the lines off the master cylinder. Almost done with the line for the front brakes (to the switch).
http://i.imgur.com/VC9ZGjs.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/qWNcZ2v.jpg

I have both flex lines mounted and secured and the remaining hardware I need to finish the fronts arrived yesterday so I will finish that line today or tomorrow and then the motor can be returned to it's final resting place.
