I bet those brake lines are a pain . Even though it looks so easy.

Nice work on the brake lines, Will.

Thanks and yes it has been a pain. I've been getting lucky so far with the bends, but the flares have been killing me. So much so that i tend to leave a little "room" for a "re-try" and when it works first time it makes the line a little more difficult to install.

I should have some more pictures soon of the progress lately.

Well I was making my run through lines and a friend came and mixed it all up.

Previously I had the lines as above and added in the line for the rear.
http://i.imgur.com/6XhdrER.jpg

In my head this was "ok" but wasn't ideal for how I was wanting the lines to look. Nine Ball made a suggestion for how to route them and i'm happy he did!
http://i.imgur.com/SlG24wP.jpg

I decided to "free hand" the bends on some scrap tubing to see how it would look.
http://i.imgur.com/SMC2Ez9.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/NJmWVG0.jpg

He was right, it looked MUCH better. Decided I was going to bite the bullet and risk running short on stainless to re-do those lines.
http://i.imgur.com/ZgrqsuZ.jpg

All three lines are in place there, clutch still needs to be bent and terminated for the hydraulics there.

I also finished up the cross piece for the front brakes and used my nice stainless brake clamps I got.
http://i.imgur.com/Yppfn0y.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/rRoFdBa.jpg

Finished up the bends on the rear line to get it closer to the floor and where I could secure it to the frame/floor.
http://i.imgur.com/CHG9bGc.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/0W8YiNr.jpg

Since I ditched about 2-3ft of tubing, I did come up shorter than I had hoped. Ended up about 6-12" shorter than I was originally looking for, so I just bought a slightly longer flex line (due in wednesday)
http://i.imgur.com/3hfobCX.jpg

Overall, I'm pretty happy for my first time doing this. Could I do it better? Probably. Maybe this will be re-visited someday...but i doubt it (unless there is an issue).
http://i.imgur.com/75fjmpK.jpg

With that finished, it's time to start looking to install the engine/transmission back in the car. I wanted to trim the bellhousing so it didn't hang lower than the oil pan.
http://i.imgur.com/LO6PC61.jpg

That took a bit to cut, but got it done and re-painted (no pics).

I also got some old parts blasted while at Nine Ball's place, so they're ready to be painted and be put back on the car (when the time is right).
http://i.imgur.com/BlRIjv4.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/MIH5rPt.jpg

First time taking this bad boy out of the box. Was happy to see the splines lined up (was nervous as I never confirmed it was the right clutch).
http://i.imgur.com/6QVGuuj.jpg

Was going to be making solid progress until I found....no flywheel bolts...
http://i.imgur.com/xcfwVBJ.jpg

Always seems to be the case that when you get momentum something stops it. LSX didn't come with them (not surprised) and clutch didn't (not a huge surprise either as they typically are re-used from stock). I have a set of ARP bolts coming in tomorrow. Hoping to have this in before I leave for Mexico this weekend.

Very true. As I ran around on Sunday trying to find them, I was thinking "I'd rather use ARP since it will be holding the 1000+lb-ft..."

Prob happened this way for a reason...

Sure have. I found some good sources for all that stuff and honestly speedway motors has been my primary. I have some others as well for some more off the wall stuff.

Hoping motor goes in tomorrow!!!

Thanks! That's what I was going for. To be honest the ultimate reason I did pedals was to ensure 100% the clutch engagement.

I'm wishing I had just done those pedals and master assy, with the smooth firewall in that area. It has been a PITA to get my stock pedals to play nice with all the fancy hardware upgrades. Haha

will69camaro

Hidden costs in this pedal are what get ya. And the fab required to make it rigid on a smooth firewall. But very happy I did them now! Hope they work as good as they look!

Dash items.
Upper portion left to right:
AC vent, Racepak, racepak mode buttons (1&2), AC vent

Lower portion left to right:
Headlight, line lock, Holley input, (gap for steering column), start button, AC controller.

I am looking at adding a 4th button on the left of moving them one spot to the right to give room for the windshield wiper control when I get it.

Will its looking good.
A couple of things that I have come across;
What kind of light dimming ability does the racepak have?
On my Dakota Digital VHX gauges it has the default one dimming but can be adjusted from the programming side, I did not realize that the factory lighting rheostat within the stock headlight switch will not work, AAW offers a stand alone switch for adjusting, that looks like the stock headlight switch (additional hole) the option that I am going with. I think I want the additional flexibility of adjusting the intensity at will without going into programming mode.
Have you decided on which wiper system you are going with?
The latest version of DSE is a fairly small footprint on the switch side.
On the backside of my factory bezel I had to get a little creative due to the thin plate on the front side. (your are using an aftermarket setup so that will not be an issue).

The racepak iq3s has auto dim when it sees headlight signal. Has a wire I tie into the headlight switch. Set it in programming for both levels and it's done.

Will be using DSE motor/setup with rain gear to keep firewall clean.

Dakota Digital has a stand alone light dimming module that works with the VhX gauges. You can dim the light levels without going into the programming mode.

More work this weekend.

Took a break from the metal work and decided to modify the tail light buckets for the LED panels. Overall not too bad but the brackets that are included fit like ****.
http://i.imgur.com/Ola3gGn.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/5TdFmON.jpg

Then decided to put the glovebox in the car and check fit and begin wiring (you can see rear light wiring already run to the trunk in previous picture.
http://i.imgur.com/63jXgGd.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/4NOZCJE.jpg

Also ran the pain power cable. 2/0 welding cable. Pretty intense stuff and a beastly crimper needed to attach the lugs.

http://i.imgur.com/4AeJvdV.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zlZDP4p.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/EBZKpFO.jpg

Picked up a product called Shine Seal from the original founder of Zoopseal in an effort to seal the raw aluminum I have in the engine bay. I cleaned all these panels and lightly brushed with a 3m pad.

Lastly I started working on the Holley wiring and making good progress for a short amount of time. I hope to have this harness completed and modified for my setup by this weekend. Hope I can find the time to hit the garage hard this week.

Got back after it this past week/weekend and got a few things accomplished (mostly yesterday).

Tail lights Installed:
http://i.imgur.com/v0Z5pZ4.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/dEYPGkz.jpg

I have a C6 PWM fan controller, and wanted to find a good place for it that was out of the way. Core support went back on to see if the spot i wanted will work.
http://i.imgur.com/ZONdu6x.jpg

Lots of space!
http://i.imgur.com/kwfwaKx.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/obs9WRZ.jpg

Made me nervous drilling and putting nutserts in the beautiful shroud, but it needed to be done!
http://i.imgur.com/yYPgxED.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/dTjS7m9.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/NzLUsct.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/iBoF1Ok.jpg

Next up was finishing the turbo drains and hooking up the power steering lines.

Hard to tell but the turbo drains are in place here, -10 90deg to -10 PTFE to the pan, and a 120deg fitting into the pan. That area is relatively flat but does have a slight uphil right at the end (passenger side mostly, to clear the starter).
http://i.imgur.com/bmkPeaN.jpg

Power steering lines were a PITA. To get them tight on the rack, I had to pull the rack hardlines to have access. They're done and hardlines are back in place.
http://i.imgur.com/MJzbx7r.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ak4tfag.jpg

Decided to tackle one of the jobs I was least looking forward to...Drilling the firewall for the ac bulkhead. I had to pull the AC back out and the glove box to have access to put these in place.
http://i.imgur.com/QixeOCy.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/4cFGtQg.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/pVzscUl.jpg

Since the AC was out, I mounted my bulkhead for the power cable from the top. Kept me from having to remove passenger downpipe to have access to drill it.
http://i.imgur.com/AFw0ipG.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ot7UnBy.jpg

will69camaro
05-02-2016, 08:37 AM
After getting those holes cut, I decided I'd take my chances and drill out the hole in the firewall for the wire pass through. I wanted to mount it a little lower, but lower and it would have interference inside, towards middle and it would hit map sensor, and other side had fuel pressure sensor and some difficult structure to work around.
http://i.imgur.com/XfWq7O9.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/SNXxfOk.jpg

No turning back now.
http://i.imgur.com/LW7rUk7.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/LW7rUk7.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/CaSMC1B.jpg

Pinned all the additional wires in the input/output harnesses for the holley and labeled them all.
http://i.imgur.com/gSKy8WT.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/QagSgH2.jpg

Now i'll strip the rest of the loom off the original harness, lay these together and put it through the fiewall and start plugging it in so I can make the engine bay side all perfect length.

That's where she sits now.

Baby steps, small weekday projects.

Trying to make time to get into the garage and knock out small items during the week since I cant dedicate significant time to the garage (usually 2-3hours MAX during the week days).

I got out there yesterday to sort the steam vent concern. The kit I had I made look decent I think.

http://i.imgur.com/I6U2PRI.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/IV664ID.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/RTtI0Uh.jpg

Plenty of room at the rear of the engine. Sits well under the map sensor/etc.
http://i.imgur.com/XiDbxoy.jpg

Front is a little closer, specifically the fitting by the fuel line crossover.
http://i.imgur.com/RBvc5ZC.jpg

There is a gap, but it's paper thin.
http://i.imgur.com/JgqkSGN.jpg

The line off the tee fitting on the front will go back to the radiator here
http://i.imgur.com/2kOpr9c.jpg

I ordered the 1/4" NPT to -4 AN adapter so I can complete that line and have it follow the radiator hose route. Should be very clean looking once completed.

Small update:

Got the fitting in the radiator so the steam vents can be completed.
http://i.imgur.com/MwwlgKg.jpg

Decided I was going to dedicate time to get the wiring on the engine complete and loomed appropriately for the setup I have.
http://i.imgur.com/IEewPQk.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/vzJWR7m.jpg

All injector wiring is secured to the manifold and as clean as I can make it. When its complete and just before putting intake on, I'll remove tags and add some split loom so you dont see the wires as much.
http://i.imgur.com/C3kgtqF.jpg

Looks pretty good considering in this picture all wires are run basically. Wills till have leads going to each corner for the coil packs and plug wires coming in, but should be able to make those pretty clean/tidy looking.
http://i.imgur.com/3GGTHkd.jpg

Pretty cramped under the intake, but it works.
http://i.imgur.com/CvyIhmw.jpg

Backside isn't the prettiest, but it'll work and is mostly hidden.
http://i.imgur.com/sSanans.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/r1tXvvQ.jpg

Utilizing the factory wiring off the coil pack mounts, and some re-taping, I cleaned up the coil pack wiring on the relocation brackets.
http://i.imgur.com/zYurlMp.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/n6Ijjvz.jpg

Moving on, I picked up my dash from powder coat so I started adding in the pieces. (I still need to paint the ac bezel satin black.
http://i.imgur.com/a4T7LZE.jpg

Wiring was started but on hold till a new crimper shows up for all the pins/connectors I'm populating.
http://i.imgur.com/UJfH4s1.jpg

Aside from needing to re-pin the map sensor for the 3bar map I have, and one Wideband that was damaged by ignorance, the motor is basically wired. I have my work curout for me inside the car with all that wiring remaining but it's close.

I also forgot a couple wires in that loom so it will be coming apart again and getting a couple wires added (AC signal, starter signal).

Painter did the rear bumper in orange. When I asked him not too. Plan originally was to have it brushed to match the wheel hoops. Having issues finding a place locally to do that. Contemplating powdercoating it aluminum.

I wish I known your write up for this car was in this forum, it'd saved a lot of questions I've asked you on FB and IG...

Nice build, way nicer than my grocery getter will be.

I do have another question. I ask out of ignorance b/c I really don't know.

*Why are the waste gates routed back several feet to tie in to the exhaust behind the firewall instead of dumping into the down pipe right after the turbo. It looks like it would cut out some tubing.

Again, really nice job... Everything looks well thought out.

No worries on facebook / IG messages, I check those more regularly.

I asked the same question to the turbo fabricator out of my own curiosity. He said there is a minimum distance you want the wastegate dump to recirculate into the system to avoid getting too much turbulence on the backside of the turbine housing. He said typically he does 12-18" away. If you look at the distance of mine, it's about 20" and that's about as clean as he could make it with the space constraints.

It was an option initially to have the wastegates dump to atmosphere but I was worried with the boost i plan on running and the size of the turbos that the gates will be open pretty regularly, and was worried the additional noise would be annoying.

So what engine did you end up going with? I read were you started off with a 402 in mind, but I think you changed to a LSX block with a 427? Which turbos are you running with that bullet?

I ask b/c I kinda swapped gears with mine. I was going to use the 5.3 with the single BW S476 turbo and 4L80E out of my truck. But I have since acquired a RHS block with a 4.0" crank that I'll build into a 427. I sort of wish I stuck with the 5.3 and S476, but it spools just a little slow with the small engine.

Started as a 6.0l based iron 408. Then a 402 ls2 based and ended up as a 427" lsx. Turbos are twin TiAL GT35r units. Won't make HUGE power but it'll make it quick!

Sorry for the delay. Finally put in a solid weekend in the garage and knocked out a LOT.

Fuel system wiring completed
ECU wiring completed
Engine Wiring Completed (aside from Plug Wires)
Catch Can mounted and started plumbing
Coils mounted
Turbo Oil Feed complete
AC condenser re-installed c/w heater hoses (need to get A/C lines built)
Heater hoses run from firewall to waterpump

Remaining items to start it:

Run the keyless start wiring and mount the box
Complete plug wires when correct terminations arrive
Complete PCV system when additional fitting arrives
Hook up and bleed clutch line
System test on fuel system
Mount battery
Make Startup Tune
Install Radiator and hoses
Temp wire fan

Only a few pics, I didnt' take much tim to take pictures this weekend. Need to do a serious clean on the garage after this wiring. It's filthy...

p.s. You wont see the coils with the fenders on and those hoses will run in the fender and out the front so not as noticable. I plan to start it without the front end on so we can closely watch for leaks.

Been taking a brief break from the heat and the car. Garage got to be such a mess it was demotivating.

Lady decided to give me a hand and push me to clean the work space, and what a difference it made. Cleaner work space makes for more productive attitude.

I took the day off yesterday and got after some work on the car again.

March Pulley's customer service sucks. They have wrong belt size in the instructions, blamed it on the brand belt I had (not even close). Ended up making several trips to the parts store and finally got one that works.
http://i.imgur.com/zcV7NLa.jpg

They call for a 76" belt...This is a 90.5" (yes the routing is correct for the size they recommended)
http://i.imgur.com/Ihsb4ac.jpg

Decided to finish up the clutch line by installing the 1/8"NPT/-4AN adapter. Well, my torque sense is off and wasn't paying attention...SNAP. New master cylinder is on the way. (see the small crack above the thread sealant)
http://i.imgur.com/RFhTckc.jpg

MOVING ON!
Lower radiator hose is a bitch to get in there. Chipped a little Pcoat but it's not visible so leaving it as is. May touch it up with a little bit of paint pen. It's damn close to the turbo drain pipe, and that's what chipped it.
http://i.imgur.com/5moZwvV.jpg

Upper radiator hose on as well. Much easier than bottom.
http://i.imgur.com/TdEsoHw.jpg

Radiator in.
http://i.imgur.com/UqHhJhi.jpg

Made the vent hose to the PCV catch can to try and eliminate the crank case pressure boosted motors tend to see.
http://i.imgur.com/zl4FtMV.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/DTYI5W4.jpg

Added the filters on next. Temporary as I just want them on for initial start.
http://i.imgur.com/bUPnRjv.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/2w4ivDl.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Vwf2K9q.jpg

Putting IC on for now. Will likely have to remove passenger side as it's nearly impossible to access the AC connections behind it. Luckily it's only 3 bolts in this condition.
http://i.imgur.com/kqEeOdS.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/0TDiECK.jpg

Finished up with a little wiring. Didn't make much progress but got the two modules mounted for the remote key and push button start.
http://i.imgur.com/ipuF9Kl.jpg

More to come on this. It feels like it could be starting soon...Not driving but starting at least.

I think I found the issue with the tune. Still need to fire it off again. I think the IAC base with TPS at 0% was set too low. Set to stock ls2 range most big motors were nearly 10% over the value I had. I corrected that. Made some fuel and timing adjustments at idle cell ranges also. We'll see where we stand this weekend.

In short, hell yes.

There is a reason not many complaints on the AutoRAD. It's just a nice piece. My only gripe is one caused by myself on project creep. I paid for some intercoolers and never even used them. Sold for half what I had in them. Again, that's my fault. They just wouldn't support the power I'm going for.

Dont mind the tools sitting on that side, I had moved over and was working on the chassis wiring on the driver side in this photo.
Few wires hanging to the right are inputs that will be wired into the dash (boost scramble, brake switch and a random holley input for future expansion/use).

I didn't work on the car for the last two weeks after burning myself out on the wiring. Got back on it this weekend, to see if i could finish up the chassis harness integration and test the push button start.

Well this is my first turbo car so was looking over logs and thinking about the wastegate setup and realized, I was thinking about how it worked all wrong! I thought it applied pressure to the bottom with wastegate pressure reference, not bleed it off! With that thought process and realizing 0% duty cycle meant full MAP got to the bottom of the gate, made me realize I had some significant vacuum leaks (no plugs in the other 2 bottom ports).

The ports that got plugged.
http://i.imgur.com/CUC5QXB.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/ccv6uoK.jpg

While the gates were out, and realizing I just dont have enough pump to support my E85 dreams, I pulled the springs and installed an 8.75psi spring (was 10.25psi prior).
http://i.imgur.com/EfY7oqC.jpg

One thing I learned that was VERY nice, is that it takes about 1hr to pull both gates, swap springs, and put them back on. Could probably be done faster, since this time included putting the plugs in the bottom ports.

With the wiring tidied up as best as it can be in the dash, and the push button wired, i decided to put in the dash to see how it looks.

http://i.imgur.com/TJM7cqm.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/Wnt8Lnt.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/JgOX19i.jpg

It looks badass...

Sadly I see that I need to shim the steering column down just a bit more. Still want to figure out a way to recess the racepak into the dash. Also found that i'm missing the tabs for the fasteners for the dash, so it's just sitting in for now to test.

And it works. The illuminated button is the push button start. I do plan to blacken that AC display surround, just haven't done it yet.

http://i.imgur.com/w7SmpWb.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/zbjjWFd.jpg

The buttons on the right control: Lights (worked with racepak dim feature, i tested), Dome light, Holley input, Line Lock.

The buttons beside the racepak are the control functions.

Some issues came about with this work.
#1 - The damn heater hose still leaks in the car. Going to have to pull it again, and try to re-install and solve that before it all comes back out to replace the hose.

#2 - The start button was a bitch. It defeated me today, until i went in, sat on the PC and grabbed a beer to research. I found that my instructions had apparently been updated (online) and it was going into a mode that wasn't clearly explained in the instructions. I got it sorted and the push button works no issues.

#3 - The racepak wasn't displaying with the car on. I hadn't tried to program it prior to starting it so hopefully that's the issue. Well i went to use the USB as directed to program the unit...They didn't send me the latest software so I cant program the IQ3s (street dash). Part of being in the first set of shipments I guess. I'll call tomorrow.

will69camaro
08-29-2016, 05:52 AM
Digital guard dawg and yes.

Biggest problem is using a factory replacement harness and the push button with so much other stuff that is different (fuse box placement, etc) made the wiring incredibly tedious.

At times I wish I had just made my own custom harness.

Huge day today.

Got a lot going this weekend. Yesterday a friend came over and we fixed a coolant leak and got the car running more consistently.

Today another friend (Big Bronco) showed and we filled diff with fluid and mounted reservoirs.

We then bled the brakes and got it off the stands. Surprised no leaks from this so far. Was expecting a lot.

Still working on idle, that's about 1100 in the video. Want to get it to around 950-1000, not sure i'll get much less than that with the injectors/etc it has.

Also I have to get the cooling system bled. It cant seem to get itself regulated on temperature (90 deg day, sitting idle, it gets to 190-200 in a matter of 4-5 minutes). I think that's all part of just needed to bleed the system. No doubt the autoRad and twin fans running 90% should get it to stabilize at 190.

One interesting thing that's going on, is the clutch fully to the floor, the car wont go in gear while stopped. If i let the pedal come up slightly, it goes right in gear. No grinding, pedal feel is good, just doesn't like it when pedal is on the floor.

yes but in the inside of the car. Drill a hole, add a grommet, run the line inside the car.

Are the reservoirs easily detachable from the hose? I wouldn't be drilling a hole big enough to pass the reservoir through.

I may consider it if that's the case, but it'd be down the road when the exhaust is eventually routed out the back of the car.

I dont like seeing tail pipes out the back of first gens anyway so if it went over the axle it would just end up dumping there.

Original plan was a side exit on the car (boom tube, flat tip) but it conflicts with the control arm on the quadralink.

I suspect this exhaust will be staying like this for some time unless the car is just too loud/unenjoyable inside.

Even we're getting anxious for that first drive  The ride height looks dialed in, though, and we like that the front tuck matches the rears a little more now.

The front will always compete with the rear as long as I have those big big tires back there. 345/35/18 are TALL in comparison to the front. To match on street tires I'll likely be going to 19s in the back.

Front drive will be happening soon!!!

Got a little more done this past weekend, but not as much as I'd have liked. Got the battery mounted and wires cut to length and secured. Wanted to clean it up a bit more on the brake lights but I came down with an illness that cut that Saturday short and has me out of work for now.

Maybe later this week.

Thanks, and feeling a little better today. Enough that I got in the garage a bit this afternoon to try to sort some issues.

Fuel pressure seems to steadily decline, but Carl has been excellent and we're working together trouble shooting it.

Had an issue just now with the push button start. Tried to engage the starter when I was trying to shut it down!!! Not good, and was a pain to get it to finally shut down. Wasn't too thrilled with that...

Called them and they said it sounds like it needs to learn tach again, I have been messing with the idle RPM so it very well could be the issue. I'll give it a shot and see if re-programming it stops it (i sure hope it does).

Significantly more than that... :shakehead:

This is a project where things snowballed in a big way. I haven't put numbers to paper lately for a total and not sure I want to. Last time I did, i was probably double that already...

No joke. I got a friend to do it after he commented on only having a certain amount in the car he figured. It sounded very low so I said "add it up." Ended up being 30-40% more than he had anticipated.

I think the best advice I can share that I've learned is if you have 60k to build a car, plan to spend 30-40k and you MIGHT finish it before running out of cash.

It was a tough vacation out of the country after driving the car as all i could think about was getting back to work on it. After 8 days gone, i landed mid day Saturday and went right back into the garage to do some test fitting.

Headliner arrived while I was away so I had a friend put it in my garage and take it out of the box for some inspection. Looks good! (thanks MCB for rushing TMI to beat their 4-6 week lead time, and thanks TMI for making it happen!)

TMI One-piece in bedford grain vinyl.

As soon as I got home, I went to put it in, to see if it would clear the cage.

Tough with one person but I got it over the main hoop which was my primary concern! Has some minor interference in the back but I think with a second set of hands, it'll be no major issue to get it past.

Headliner came back out and thermal insulation and finishing the dynamat became the objective. Seats came back out and will remain out till carpet is installed.

While waiting on the carpet to "relax" i took to the front end. Getting the headlight buckets mounted proved more difficult than just bolting them in, as the intercoolers occupy some shared space. Minor modifications and they're in.

Since it shares some hardware I also installed the autorad coolant overflow. Moved slightly as the supplied bracket doesn't fit with the turbo kit. Using a mount from MightyMouse (catch can mount) I secured the overflow to it's new home.

I had some difficulty getting the lower fender extensions and the lower valence installed. Aftermarket valence and original extensions. Definitely was not fun, filing and cutting on a painted piece to make it line up correctly. Gotta love old cars and fit/finish!
(Sorry for the bad pic, too much backlight in the garage for a good front shot with the front panels installed.

HAH definitely. The design they have is good, just restricts a lot of space on the drivers side. I like where it ended up getting mounted. All close proximity but it works.

Need to get the hose hooked up for the overflow though.

Gave up on the headliner sadly. Just wont fit over the roll bar. Will be sold and I'm going with a conventional style roll bar.

Small update. Got the headlights installed and wired up, horns wired up too. Need a hub puller so I can hook up the turn signal arm to ensure those work, and to hook up the horn button. May try to get that tomorrow, as well as a few other things.

Did a little work this weekend and got a few more parts coming today (year one sales and such).
Front and rear glass got installed on Friday. Guy came to the house and installed it in my garage while I watched. He uses a rubber gasket as I dislike the stainless trim. I do have to use the factory stainless windshield molding but that's PC black and will be installed soon.
http://i.imgur.com/EMatKgG.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/FKBnqbj.jpg

After that was done, I took on the challenge of swapping out the front springs to a taller and stiffer spring. I was maxed on the coilover and wanted to get more adjustability. I went to a 7" 650lb/in spring from a 6" 600lb/in. Added some camber to the front and replaced the ugly standard shims with a nice set of billet anodized ones from DSE (why not right?).
http://i.imgur.com/XO6Dw0p.jpg

Ride height is ok. Didn't rub going into same parking spot.
http://i.imgur.com/MqeC5a7.jpg

Also got the seats mounted fully and the seat belts (lap only for now) in the car. I'll do the shoulder harnesses when I get the rear bar back in the car.

http://i.imgur.com/8Xr84uA.jpg

Got the ride height setup (tall) so I can drive around without rubbing fenders, so far so good on that front. Will work it back down after i get a few more things sorted. (Dont mind the rear bumper pointing down, didn't realize it needed to be adjusted at that time, I will get it sorted in the coming days. Got the horn working too. No pics of that as nothing to see, and video not uploaded. It's comically loud!
http://i.imgur.com/Rjfn3oZ.jpg

After getting this stuff together, I decided to take it around the block and hit up a straight wide section. Car saw 6-6500 and 9psi boost. I think it's fair to say, I will likely be dropping the spring in it and planning to start out a little slower. Walk before you can run situation. Car feels unruly at low speed. It hooked but just a little too violent for me to learn with. Hoping to get it more road legal and put some miles on it next weekend.

Absolutely love it. HP is a solid setup also be sure to look into its ability to read a VR type VSS. in my search to get mine working I've seen some talk about dominator being the only one to do that sensor type.

Super easy to learn the software. I got it down pretty well but just need some more time to get good at it.

For an LS it's definitely plug and play. I'd say the engine wiring on my car by itself was maybe a couple hours. To get it to where I could start it. Adding functions added time and cleaning it all up to look nice in the car. I'd highly recommend it.

Been watching your build for awhile congrats getin'er on the road!!

Question: you mentioned that you HAD to use the GM trim on the front glass, is that because the a-pillars were not extended into the fender line prior to paint? Or something else? That molding does looks nice and clean on the back!

Correct. It's just to fill that gap. Otherwise could run without the original trim at the bottom.

Does seem odd when it's on 7psi and 345 mickey Thompson drag radials! I'm hoping to turn this thing north of 20psi. Imagine the probs then!

Well got out there and did a little work this weekend (finally).

Removed the exhaust and driveshaft to get it shortened and change the trans seal. Seal looked to be good (prior to pulling) but I replaced with the metal housed seal. Wiped down the underside of the car and cleaned all the fluid off the downpipes, the removed section and the driveshaft.

After that I moved to changing the first round of oil in the LSX427. It has about 150-200mi on it. Sending samples of fresh Joe Gibbs BR5W50 and the used oil to Blackstone Labs for testing. Had some initial concerns when I drained the catch can...
http://i.imgur.com/3GHMCbh.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/O4iIPGP.jpg
I was assured by the catch can manufacturer (Mighty Mouse - David Childress) that the oil seen is "Normal" for what i'd be seeing. Confirmed that with other friends as well.

http://i.imgur.com/WZCugqr.jpg

Moved onto draining the pan and pulling the filter apart.
http://i.imgur.com/mjYeoJq.jpg

Oil has some "copper glitter" in it i'm told is to be expected with new builds. Been a while so have some concerns but not putting too much thought into it right now.
Filter element had a little white metal in it, nothing significant.
http://i.imgur.com/PqGMPSE.jpg

Biggest concern I had was I have some flakes that are non-metallic and appear to be coating or maybe gasket material in the oil. Several pieces like this.
http://i.imgur.com/eCd7QxK.jpg

They're flexible and very thin.
http://i.imgur.com/ayrXGkD.jpg

I'm 99% sure it'll be fine, engine made no noises, had great oil pressure. I'm going to change the oil frequently the next few times (one more of breakin then will move to oil i plan to continue running). I'll be changing oil at ~500mi for the next several changes. May start gradually stepping it up after that.

I also started installing the door glass but didn't make it far before calling it quits this weekend. Maybe more on that this week.

Aside from that, Friday I went back to the shop that did my turbo kit (M2K Motorsports) to watch a friends Trans Am get some WOT tuning. I'd say he's pretty happy with his 400in LSX with a F1X procharger. Numbers are boost only, and he has nitrous standing by for future tuning/use.

Hope everything is good with the engine. I hate worrying about that type of stuff. Especially an expensive build like that!!

will69camaro
01-30-2017, 01:36 PM
Convenient name for that concern! Either way I think it lends itself to staying int he car and running it. Keep an eye on it and hope for the best. Pulling it now to check it out wont save anything really if that's ultimately what needs to happen.

I think it's all good.

1500 to the wheels ?

People are just crazy these days ! Even though its a muscle car its still a sleeper because no one expects a stock 2000 era Firebird to be packing heat like that.

any link to his build ?

Its normal to see some gasket/sealant material in the oil after a startup. I wouldn't worry about it (for now).

As we have already talked about it as well, you should be fine. One more run with the break-in oil and then you should be fine to start expanding the oil change intervals.

Looking forward to getting back stateside and going for a rid in this thing and seeing Gibb's Trans-Am out on the road.

Now to pics!

Lights are from Amazon, they're Trucklite 27270C I believe is the part number. Wiring is factory, plugs directly into factory harness. The lights do stick out past the bezel a bit. I find it's less noticeable with the bezels that have the chrome surround.

I am not running them through a relay currently. They run 1.80amp (low beam), 3.60amp (high beam), so the switch is rated for well above that. No issues so far but haven't used them too much yet either.

Driveshaft has been dropped off to be shortened slightly. Will be ready tomorrow, will re-install, change rear springs out as i'm maxed on existing ones and still settling here and there.
