That is one clean setup on the gto. What manifolds did you use on that build?

Some cool stuff in here for sure.

Hope this can inspire some others. I just started my own hot rod shop this last fall and have been learning a lot. Just bought a Tig welder (MIG welded for years) and practiced a ton. I did a couple small jobs and a budget junkyard turbo Iroc Camaro. Then this guy comes and says, I want the baddest new gen GTO on the road. So...9"IRS, minitubs, ERL 427, 4L80E, twin turbos, roll bar, 1000rwhp, the whole deal. Built the turbo kit from a pile of stainless. Im just finishing it up and it was my first full build for a customer. Dont let anyone tell you you can't do something. Ive learned more in the last year than I thought possible.

The 06 GTO

My 71 Nova

And the super budget turbo 5.3 done for 5k including labor.

Get out there in the garage and chop, grind, and weld until something cool turns out!

Those guys work with guys who don't care what the cost is. I think Mike? Moal told me this was the 8-10th car they had one for this guy. They just started on a coupe version of this car before this one was done. A few years ago Mike Moal ( Steve's Son ) told me they have trouble building a car under 7 figures. But just look at all the hand built details. There is nothing but time in this car. Everything is built to the top, Not a single corner cut anywhere. No where.

Am I being picky? For 2.3mil I wouldn't want a half sanded weld showing on the underside of the hood.
Oh and different length fasteners on that block on the flange.

That weld is left for strength on an aluminum panel. That nose is custom made. Moal's cars are all built for function 1st, looks 2nd. Moal has a reason for everything.

That's how I ended up getting a facebook account. Kurt Urban had something to show and it was on their. I think you can set up a shop only, It's been a good way to reach people who are interested in all types of cars and automotive stuff. I think the stuff Greg is talking about is true, I dont give a crap about what someone had for dinner, It took along time for me to warm up to the idea myself.

Yes and No. I believe they have it to where you can set one up from the main page but they will eventually make you have a personal page to branch the shop page off of. You don't necessarily have to have any context or friends on the personal page though. I have a personal page that the shop is branched off of that I have no info or friends on, then I have my own personal page with friends that I know. The hardest part on a shop page is getting followers. Once you hit the 1,000 or so fans it pretty much increases on its own, but until then you have to try to market the page off your personal page. I like Facebook. They make it really easy to upload updates and photos. It's obviously the best way to market yourself or a business and it doesn't cost a dime!

Rad Rides is my favorite builder, and I been following this one since they first posted pics, and saw it here at Goodguys last year. I think it's going to be my new all-time fav hot rod. Can't believe they're making me like a Ferd this much!

I think they do just the weld joints for some kind of rust control or prevention method. Just less to scotchbrite as they try and clean the truck.

Most of the truck never get painted or coated.

I do a lot of stuff for local people. Usually design it in Solidworks then machine it or make it from sheet metal. Here is one I just finished. Its actually for myself. I am installing a 4 cam all aluminum V8 Lexus engine in my Nova. Lexus never made one with a manual transmission. So I machined an adapter from 6061-T6.

My go to machinist who is also a tool and die maker has been fabricating and machining many of the parts on this scratch built Miller race car a local prewar die hard is building. Using copies of the original Miller drawings they are duplicating the car as close to possible as to how miller himself may have built this car that never existed. I think the engine and the wheel hubs are about the only original pieces used as seen in the pics. Any cast parts needed are being cast and machined. The only one I have a pic of is the raw transmission case. It is truly a work of art.

That was pretty cool. I'm always blown away by the machinery in a big factory. The factory itself is usually more impressive than the stuff they make lol.

Now this is great thread! :) I have not seen trough all 42 pages yet though..!

In the car business I really love looking at the bonneville/high speed guys, those make anything and everything from scratch, especially those that run something different like straight eigths, and really old stuff and modify/make own heads and fabricates everything themselves. And those that make real race cars, even the modern ones. ;)

That is what I like to call real HOT RODDING. :)

Some more machining pictures for those interested. I posted a few in our 66 Vette build thread, but I thought this would be a better place.

I'm building these for a customer of B&B Classics. Billy has done a lot of upgrades to this guys '67 Chevelle 300. The car is beautiful, a very nice, clean car. It has a BBC 572 that Billy put a Hilborn fuel injection unit on it last year. The owner wanted to dress up the appearance over the sheetmetal formed stacks. I came up with this:
Lower stacks, one operation in the mill, one in the lathe

I think Billy said he got it thru Grainger. Yes, its 1/4" aluminum hex mesh.

Yeah we have a 50W laser that is mainly for marking, but it will cut thin stuff with enough passes. Took about 3.5 minutes to cut each screen out.

I admire your work.

My Dad talked me into meeting a tool maker friend of his from Hewlett Packard when I was 15. He convinced me to go to a Vo-Tech school during High School half days for two years for machining. I got a job at 17 in a sweat shop running screw machines until I went into the Marines at 19.

At 23 I was discharged went back to the Vo-Tech learned CNC got a good job, one thing lead to another, I spent 20 years as a tool maker, mold maker, etc.

Then my knees gave out standing on concrete so I went back to school.

Damn I miss Bridgeports, Laguns, Clausings, EDM's, Stereolithography, etc.

I now sit on my ass and manage a WAN, boring SH**

Anyhow I am rambling, awesome work Aaron, thanks for sharing it with us... :trophy-1302:

For those not following our Spirit of '66 Vette thread, I made this this weekend. It's an air filter adapter for a C6 element. This is just the base, I need more material for the retainer ring. Hope to get to that later this week. Enjoy.

Note: this is right out of the machine, just rinsed the coolant off.

Very nice Aaron!

Which side was machined first, bottom? or Top?

Thank you.

Joe, I did the inside first. This way, I was able to use a standard vise to clamp on the outside of the stock. I tapped the perimeter holes to #10-32 threads. Then for the second side, I took some scrap pieces and machined in the bolt pattern and then used bolts to hold it down. The bolts were just under the finished flange after it was fully machined. Eventually, I will clearance drill out the threads as the clamp ring (not made yet) has the threads in it. I have a set of ARP stainless bolts to finish it out.

Not as good as the other race dezert build thread but its still got some amazing photos. I picked up a few jigging ideas for my frames like this one.

Very cool Rodger, thanks for sharing! 3G's just by lifting off the throttle...Holy Sh!t! Think about that!

I was on the salt when they broke the last record with Thrust SSC. Reports and pictures were rolling in from Black Rock and everyone was buzzing....pretty cool to be a part of! Let's see if they can keep this one on the ground!
Check out the pressure wave in front of Thrust....

This was taken a day or two before Andy Green set the record. Taken from one of two Ultralights they brought with them from the UK. I was lucky enough to buy a copy from the pilot and get Andy to autograph it.

Here's my page on it. The page is old and photos small because it was made for dial up downloading in those days. http://www.pozziracing.com/land_speedracing.htm
