Okay parts update.
The Mallory Crank Trigger for the project came in today.
Thanks to Mike Lee at Race Proven Motors for the support.

Temporary Curtain to keep the heat in the back half of the garage.
Wait till you see the permanent curtain.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_01_20_001.jpg

It's all organized and ready to work.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_01_20_004.jpg

So in the end.
16 - 2 x 8 x 20 foot boards
21 - 2 x 6 x 8 foot boards
10 - 4 x 8 x 1/2" sheets of plywood
3 - 8.6' x 11.6' Tarps
1 - Attic Ladder
1 - Fluorescent Light
4800 Staples (arm really hurts)
One Hammer Stapler
6 Rolls of R-13 Insulation
5 Rolls of R-19 Insulation
146 Pro Vents for the Vaulted Ceiling (not foreseen in the budget)
2 - Craftsman Rolling tool chests (also not in the budget)

It's complete and I'm to tired to work on the truck.
Did I also mention my wife never complained once during this project and all the hours I spent working in my garage.

Good Morning All,

Things are Finally falling into place.

The Guy's the Crew @ Rockford Racecraft have starting working on the motor.
It's ready to be assembled.

Quick Picture of the Pistons from JE ( 4.125 bore )

After Coating and before Coating.

The piston coating is a "cermet thermal barrier coating" designed for high temperature/pressure applications and is especially suited for piston domes in forced inducted and nitrous motor applications.

The bearing coating is a dry film lubricant coating applied at micron thickness and used to prevent scuffing, galling, and reducing reciprocating friction.

Good Morning All,

Guy and Crew at Rockford Racecraft are getting ready to inspect the block for external flaws.

They found some flaws that would have to be taken care of before it could be painted.
See the Left Hand side of the block.

Sorry work has really been kicking my butt the last two weeks.
Still working on the truck instead of sleeping.

Guy cleaned up the burs and casting flaws on the block.

The front of the block was pretty nasty. Looks very good now.
Can't wait to paint the block.

Put all the cladding back on the truck. Getting it ready for final Fit.
Only one piece of cladding left to make in Fiberglass.

Good Morning All,

The truck is in Limbo right now.
I need to buy an enclosed trailer so I've spent all of my spare time looking for one.

In the meantime the Guy's at Rockford Racecraft have assembled the short block.
All the parts getting ready for there new home.

The infamous v6 Billet Crank.

The Bowtie Block came from GM with ARP Studs.
Saves a little money there but then again the block wasn't cheap either.

Good Evening All,

This has been a very long week and a very sad Week.
http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46822
We lost a great guy in the SyTy Community and he will be Dearly missed.

One of his last post over on syty.net was in my build thread. Dave asked if I would adopt him.
The answer is yes but I think you a little to old to be my son and no you can't drive my truck.
So you are going to have to sit in the passenger seat.

The seat is yours Dave - gonna miss you big guy.

Okay I will try to go to back to the updates.

The New Head Gaskets arrived

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_02_20_0.jpg

Getting ready to rip the truck apart again.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_02_24_002.jpg

Don't try this at home alone -- not a good idea.
Really I am going to buy a lift for my garage.

Wait I have an idea anyone want to sponsor me.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_02_24_005.jpg

The Bed off and on it's body work stand.
Looks like I am going to need to contact Caleb and ask him if he set it up for 7 foot tall body men. :dunno:

Yep it was great working with you. It sure did save a bunch of money having you do all design work. You should tell people that's what you do and maybe they will take advantage of your talents and then use Fabritek to make the parts.

Every Day it's getting a little closer to being complete.

Prior to the Article being published the truck was going to be painted at Rad Ride's.
However, due to schedule's and deadline conflict the truck is now being
painted at Kenny Davis Hot Rods.

Good Afternoon all,

Okay it's time to let the Cat out of the Bag officially.
Last Friday Night we packed up the trailer and headed to Nebraska.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_04_13_004.jpg

I wish you could see the front of the trailer -- it's packed with parts.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_04_13_005.jpg

So you ask what's in Nebraska? The "Recovery Room" is in Nebraska.
This truck isn't ready for Interior is it. Nope !!

My father and I figured we might as well kill two birds with one Stone.
Kenny was dropping off the 57 at Tracy's - so we figured we should just meet at Tracy's.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/kd_log.jpg

I'm pretty excited to be working with Kenny Davis Klan.
They are great group of guy's and so far we are having a blast picking on Kenny.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_04_16_004.jpg

Plenty more to come in the near Future.
So Stayed tuned as the next couple month's should be exciting.

we are real glad to get to work with marty on this project , this is a little out of the "box " for us . most of the cars we have done to this point are streetrods and 55-64 chevys .so to work on a different style car and a different style build is good for all involved. I have a hard time not making them " streetrodish " and making them " industrial " BUT we will work hard to finish this truck and make him proud of it.
PLUS this project has had some killer fab work done on it , the tig welds are the best i have ever seen !

Good Day All,

I would like to welcome our new Sponsor - Nitrous Express.
Brian, noticed the truck and said that we needed to work together and I agreed.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/NX_400.jpg

www.nitrousexpress.com or [email protected]

Our plans are to build an Intercooler chillier similar to the kit Jerry offers for the Syclones.
However the new kit will be custom built to our Intercooler.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_05_07_chiller.jpg

While were in there we figured we might as well add a little more go-go juice to the motor.
We still haven't decided which kit were going to use but I am certain Brian has something up his sleeve.

Guy has been steady working on the Motor.
Collecting parts and working on some old parts that needed some TLC.

Way back in the day (April 2002) I was able to locate a sheet metal Moroso 2 Piece main seal Oil Pan.
Trust me it was very hard to Find.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2002_04_10_11.jpg

Dennis over at www.highspeedwelding.com trimmed the front cross member (August 2004) so we would be able
to remove the oil pan just in case there were problems with the motor. It's much easier to pull a pan then pull a motor.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2004_08_26_7.jpg

Dennis added some Simple Bracing to the crossmember for Strength.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2004_08_31_0.sized.jpg

The Guy's at Rockford Racecraft welded a new pick up to the oil pump to ensure proper oil supply.

The pan has been stripped down and it heading to Kenny's so we can put in the oil return lines.
Once were done with the pan it's heading back to Dave at Comp Fab so we can clean up all of the Welds.

Okay time for the real update.

Slid the truck forward from the back of the shop and spent a little time putting it all back together again.

That's Travis looking at the truck. Yep it's low !!

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_05_19_003.jpg

If you've ever met Kenny you know he likes them low and slammed to the ground.
We needed to lower the rear just to make him feel comfortable.
Yep it's low enough.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_05_19_005.jpg

Side shot of the rear tire tucked in the wheel well.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_05_19_009.jpg

That's Kenny drawing on the front cover.
We need to make an opening for the Intercooler.
Ps. That Kenny guy is really good with a Marker.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_05_19_020.jpg

Hanging the doors trying to get everything straight before they start doing all of the body work.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_05_19_023.jpg

By the end of the day the doors looked pretty good the fenders were back on and we all came to an agreement on the colors and finishes on the truck.

Plenty more to come in the near future.

Did i mention that he took a red scotch brite pad to my wheel.

Heck i wasn't sure if i was going to make it home with that crazy guy on the plane. It was close the Flight Attendants wanted him off the plane and the Pilot said that he would have to freak out just a little more and then they would kick him off. The good thing was they put the big muslce bound guy next time him for the remander of the flight and that did quiet him down just a little.

I am glad you liked the build book - it should be cool to see it completed.

Yep - Indy - Can't wait !!!

Okay I know we've been a little sleepy with the updates. But not to worry were working on the trucks. Just trying to gather parts for the engine.

Guy at Rockfordracecraft has been working with Jessels on the Lifter and shaft mount rockers. Once we have those we should be pretty close to sealing up the motor.

On a side note Ron ( Wilson Muscle Cars ) and & I have been workng on the locking versions of the hood pins. We just want to have options.

Good Day All,

I know it's shocking actually it's amazing.
We have Pictures - only 3 but we actually have Pictures.
Yahooooooo!!!

This is the first Photo (using the term photo loosely here)
I think it's the side of the truck with some string running down it.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_06_20_023.jpg

Yep I was correct -- it's the side of the truck.
The Guy's are actually working on aligning the bed width with the cab width.
This is not for the faint at heart

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_06_20_024.jpg

The side has been pulled out to match the widest part of the cab.
Next, they are going to cut the back of the cab and pull it out to match the side of the bed.
Our goal is to have a perfectly straight line down the side of the truck.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_06_20_025.jpg

I can't wait to see it in person.

what's the latest? I have been so inspired that I've found a S-10 extended cab at my brother in laws mom's house. He says it has sat there for 8 years. Reason: some wire that they didn't fix shorted and burned the engine bay. But if I can get it for next to nothing, I'll take it on.

i will anwser this question because i have it in our shop , we have the bed off and cut the bedsides off so we can make the bed wider so the sides look flat . then we made the front bed panel square because it was round and did not look good . also we made the tailgate fit the hole .
next we reinstall the bed and cut the cab and widen it to fit the bed .

Good Morning All,

The Guy's at Kenny Davis Hot Rods have been hard at work with way to many projects.
Dads 57 is back at the shop and the Camaro they are working on is just incredible.
Looks like it's time for another road trip to see all of them.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/Autometer.jpg

All the hard work is paying off, I can add one more hat to my collection.
We wanted a gauge set that would compliment the truck's theme and Autometer was the only Choice.
The new Automaker's gauges will look right at home in the Dash of Syborg.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_07_02_001.jpg

It's hard to believe that all but one of these gauges are going to fit in the Dash.

Five of the Small Guages are Full Sweep / Two of them are Partial Sweep
The two Partial Sweep guages will be mounted in the outside triangle of the dash layout.

It looks like the cab is off and heading to the Powder Coater.
The entire inside of the cab will be coated Satin Black.
Once the cab is back the outside corners will be filled with lead to smooth the gap between the cab and the bed.

it's my shop , 40x100 , 10ft side walls . if i had it to do again i would make it 50x100 and 16 ft walls so i could 2 story the last 50x50 for storage .
the 40 wide is ok , but you can make alot more work space if you can turn the cars 90 degrees to the wall . with the 40 the cars have to be at a angle to leave room to drive down the center .
we are going to build a 2nd shop 40x50 for " clean cars " only to assemble in .

Good Morning All,

Quick Update.......

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/AIRlogo.jpg

I met with the guy's from Air Ride at Indy Good Guy's.
After Talking with Jeremy we decided that we needed to upgrade the suspension on Syborg to the new Level Pro system.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/levelprologo.jpg

Normally I would show you pictures of the actual parts but then we all know Kenny's not good with Pictures.
So the good guy's at Air Ride sent me there catalog images just in case.

Below is the new ARC4000L System.
It has some pretty cool features instead of me telling you in my words I figured it would be easier to just do a cut and past from Air Rides Site.

http://www.ridetech.com/productinfo/levelpro.asp

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/arc4000_features.jpg

There new Pocket size remote control.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/REM7500.jpg

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Renderings/arc4000L.jpg

The new LevelPro™ leveling system is the most advanced air suspension control system available today.
It is the result of several years of development by “hands on” engineers and refinement in real world vehicles.

The LevelPro™ system uses a unique combination of ride height sensors AND air pressure sensors to quickly achieve your selected ride height.
By comparing the position of the ride height sensor to the air pressure the vehicle is leveled with no crossloading.

FEATURES
• More accurate leveling of ride height sensors in addition to air pressure sensors allows extremely accurate vehicle leveling with no crossloading

• Better air pressure sensors
New voltage based air pressure sensors eliminate EMI interference and grounding problems that can lead to inaccurate pressure readings and ride heights. This new voltage based sensor has more resolution [accuracy] and quicker response to allow faster and more accurate air pressure presets. It’s also smaller in diameter to allow direct installation into the RidePro® and BigRed solenoid blocks to eliminate remote mounting panels with extra lines and fittings.

• Easier viewing in bright light from any angle
VFD [vacuum florescent display] instead of an LCD [liquid crystal display]

• Ride-height-on-start
Each time the vehicle is started it will automatically go to highway ride height.

• Control panel programming
All programming [including the ride-height-on- start feature] can be accessed from the control panel so you can hide the ECU and still have easy access to all programming functions.

• 3 ‘1 touch’ ride height presets
Accessible from control panel.
These ride heights are programmed by a simple push and hold action similar to programming a radio station preset.
No secret sequence of buttons to push!

• Backlit soft touch silicone buttons
Easier actuation by feel, no diverting your eyes from the road to see which button you're pushing!

• Extruded aluminum ECU
More robust to avoid physical damage during installation

Porterbuilt
07-31-2007, 09:15 PM
The Level Pro is a pretty cool system... the one annoyance is that is "pulses" while setting itself to the programmed height(s). Fortunately the guys at Air Ride came up with a new chip board to eliminate the "pulsing". Make sure you get it now... or you will have to get it later.:)

Can't wait to see the truck done.

Do you guys usually have the paint baked off? How do you like the results? Hows the cost compared to having it blasted? Any chance of the metal getting to hot, and warping?

I have a place near me that does it, but I don't know of anyone who's used it.

i didn't know they were going to bake it off , but i did not warp the metal at all . i dont know if i would do a car with big 1/4 panels .

wiedemab
08-07-2007, 07:11 AM
Baking of the body shouldn't cause any of the metal to warp. Warpage (if that's a word) is caused by a concentration of heat in one area. The expansion of the heated area, which is constrained by the metal around it causes a wave in the metal. If the oven heats it evenly it shouldn't cause any problems.

Unlike materials that are bonded together that expand at different rates would cause problems, but I think in the case of an all steel body you should be OK.

BTW - the truck looks SWEET! I think I've seen enoughs ass for a while though!

Later,

Marty,

Those wires could be from the cores used in the casting process. I've seen wires like that used to hold several cores together or in place. Although that is in steel castings and they normally are made of an alloy that melts away where exposed to the liquid metal. I'm not real familiar with the aluminum casting processes. Just a guess. Looking bad a$$ by the way. Keep the pics coming. Gotta love these trucks!

Later.

Thank you very much.

We are going to be using Tracy Weaver from the Recover Room (http://www.recoveryroomrodinteriors.com/) for the interior. He did my dad's 57 and it turned out great. I'm very happy with him and plan to use him on my next few projects.

Yep - that was a tri-pod that I gave you. It's pretty cool all of the big shops use them.

Just in case you can't figure out the Tri-pod you could alway's set the camera on a cardboard box.

Good Afternoon,

I'm a little late getting this e-mail out.

Kenny is really kicking butt on the body mods. He is making sure everything fits perfect.

Hard to tell from this picture but you can see Kenny has widen the rear cover to have a 3/16" gap.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_11_23_KD_0.jpg

Tailgate has been smoothed.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_11_24_KD_0.jpg

You can also see the side of the gate has also been filled.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_11_24_KD_1.jpg

Cab is ready for Primer. The cab has been widened 3/16" to line up with the bed sides.

That's one hell of a lot of work and it looks great! How's the wheels holding up in the shop environment? My first set of wheels got some scratches from all the grinding dust.

Hi All,

Kenny is really cranking on the Bodywork.

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_12_03_KD_0.jpg

Looking down the side of the truck

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_12_03_KD_1.jpg

You can see that Kenny has fitted the cladding with the fender.
There used to be a 1/2" gap

http://www.syborgtwinturbo.com/albums/Build/2007_12_03_KD_2.jpg

Just a quick shot with the Side Cladding on the Truck.

Hard to tell but it's straight all the way down the side.
The bed is no longer wider then the truck.

One of the most important things I've noticed this week is the fact that
Kenny may have actually used the Tripod.

Good Morning All,

Just a Quick Update.

I've been looking for a Solution for my Wilwood Brake pedal and I've found it.
The bonus is Shannon even offers a Matching Gas pedal.

Where's the 26's and half-cab body drop and dancing bed?

Sweet build up for sure. My first vehicle was a Nissan Hardbody that was lowered on 50 series tires (before big wheels were available of course...).

I always wanted to buy a wrecked/rolled early 90's twin-turbo 300ZX and use the drivetrain & motor with the truck body & frame. I was 17 with no money, a dad who I could convince to help me, and time to day dream.....

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your dime on track day
