Default What would Smokey Yunick build?

As a practice in theory, I was wondering what you guys would think Smokey Yunick would build today? With no limits, or rules to break?

It would have to be competitive in road racing, and somewhat streetable (ie, it could be taken on a road-trip). Of course, the foundation would be a 68 Camaro. But, other models could be explored. Just wanting to pick your brains. Thanks.

I don't know if Smokey would be involved with racing at all. The sanctioning bodies, especially NASCAR, have gottin way to strict to allow any of his innovations or rules interpretation.
I have worked on a couple of his cars over the years and some of the things found have been interesting to say the least.

A close friend dug his Camaro T/A car out of a snow bank many years ago and I helped with the resto. Same friend got serial #1 70 Camaro from Smokey about 15 years ago and we are currently restoring it.

Perhaps it's just me, I would not mind hearing about "some of the things found have been interesting . . ."

I was hoping some of you would share your opinions, sort of to pick your brains . . . There is alot of knowledge and experience here. I was hoping to see some imaginations at work.

I know a few of his legendary tricks. One was to have a very large diameter and very long (like 50ft) fuelline from the tank to the engine. It made it possible to run a few extra laps more than the competitors between stops. The rules didn't specify how long or large the fuelline should be...

There was an article in HotRod in the late 70s listing many of the tricks.

You know he was allways working on weight,,,,so I'd imagine he be a very big fan of Carbon Fiber pannels and parts.......That said I'm sure he'd paint them all and never let on about it lol
