Default LS1 Information

All,
A guy I go to church with asked me today if I was intersted in a 350 that came out of a 2000 or 2001 Camaro. Knowing that this guy knew nothing about cars, I was hesitant to even answer him until he told me it was $1,000. Supposedly, a gentleman he went to school with pulled this motor, ECM, wiring harness, etc. out of this Camaro and now has no use for it. I believe he will throw in the transmission too at no charge.

Now the question I have is how do I tell if it is definitely an LS1 other than the all aluminum block? Did GM make an aluminum 305? This almost seems too good to be true. It has to be blown because I don't have this kind of luck. What do I need to look for? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

They did not make any 305 (00-01) camaro's all ls-1 in camaro's are 5.7 liters 346 CID so don't be worried just make sure get everything for the motor the only difference would be z28 and SS the SS has more HP but it's not a big deal hope this helps

Tell him you want to pull the oil pan first. If you don't see any metal shavings, I'd jump all over it. The best way to tell if it's an LS1 is just by looking at it. Coil packs should be on top of the valve covers and it has a large black EFI intake on top that looks like a slab of ribs. Grab a picture of one off the internet and compare it when you go to check it out. $1000 for a sound LS1/4L60E is highway robbery. Don't drag your feet on this one.
