good question. I'm a moderator or Admin on 5 different sites, and in all cases they asked me if I would be willing to help out. I'm sure it's because of my sparkling personality!

In reality, on this site every mod has been picked due to being a good member, level-headed in discussions, and someone who we feel will keep an eye out for the site. It's up to Scott as to when we add a moderator, and as the site grows it generally follows that we need more moderators to help watch over things.
