1972 Buick GS - Worth??????

I have a lead on a '72 Buick GS. It has been done up as a Stage I clone. It was originally a 350 car. I'm not an expert on what all the Stage I package consists of, but it is supposed to have all of the items that make it look like one.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but plan to go look at it this weekend. It has a 455 that is bored .060" with a pretty wild cam. TH400 tranny, 10 bolt posi (unknown ratio). Bucket Seats, console, Stage I tach etc.

The car is complete and driving. It is supposed to have some minor rust issues (ie: small spot in lower doors and front fenders, spots in trunk) The interior is all there, but needs redone.

Any idea what it's worth if it basically needs the body and interior redone to be a good cruiser.

If I grab it up, I'd probably do all of the body work, have the interior done (stock) and possibly put in on Air Ride with some Billet Buick Rally wheels.

Tell, me about it, when he first sent them, I thought "my god my eyes are getting bad"!

Hopefully the next round of pics will be a little better. I don't know too much about these cars. I've been doing some research. I'm not concerned with the authenticity or anything. I'm more concerned with the problem areas. I'm sure they had problems in the same area as the Chevelles.

The price seems right, so unless it's a total basket case when I see it in person - It may be headed to my house. The bad thing is, my garage is full (and so is my driveway) and my dad's garage is full too. We need more garage space!!!!!!!

Any ideas on a value?

I've been browsing ebay it seems like these cars aren't bringing that much money. Most of them on ebay are in the $5 to $8K range. I'm just curious whether or not this would be a car that I could finish and take to some shows for a season or two and sell for decent money.

A super nice clean 72 GS Stage 1 when restored will bring 20 to 30 grand. Maybe more depending on options and the quality of the restoration.

The 72's just don't bring as much as a 1970 Model would. 1970 was the premier year for Horsepower and will always bring more than the 71 or 72's.

Since this one is a clone and needs work you'll want to be into if for under 10 grand. It's hard to say for sure without actually seeing it but that would be a pretty good rule of thumb for that year. I noticed it has a 1970 Front Bumper on it. With that being said there may be some other parts and Pcs on the car that are incorrect for a 72.

I would recommend bring someone with that has Buick knowledge so you don't spend more than its worth!

They are nice cars, faster than most people realize and if you go to a show you won't see 100 of them there.

Thanks for the info Todd. After seeing some more detailed pics of the car we decided to pass on it. It looked like it had a hack job floorpan repair (overtop of the rust), the trunk floor was rusty, the lower quarters, rockers, doors, and front fenders were rusty. The guy already sold it to someone else. He was only asking $3500, but it would have been way more work than we wanted to get into right now, especially when we've got other projects that aren't getting done.

Your car is flat-out BADASS by the way!
