Default Question for Carolina residents

A friend of mine will be going to Columbia, SC this summer and while there, his wife wants to stay a few nights on a beach somewhere. I've heard of Hilton Head, is there anywhere else to check out?

They could also check out Mertle Beach. I have not been to the others, but I have had a lot of fun at Mertle. Last time I was out there kite surfers were tearing it up. They had a huge kite with 2 strings so they could controll them and they were surfing with them. They got huge air. Lots of pretty young scenery as well.

Yea, Wilmington is very sweet, but it is in North C. Kind of a college town. You can also check out the NC battleship in wilmington. My wife and I took my dad to check out the battleship when he came out to visit when we lived back there. Also if he is a car guy DSE and 21 century are near the border of north and south Carolina.

Default It really depends on what she wants to do

In South Carolina you have Myrtle...kind of touristy with lots of stuff to do

Charleston, with a neat historic district

Kiawa Island, high end beach stuff

Hilton head like you already mentioned and not far from Hilton head is Savannah, Ga...think in the "Garden of Good and Evil"

I vote myrtle, lots of good places to eat and good hotels to stay at. Usually they have something cool going on down there.

Hilton Head is a great place if you are into high dollar shopping, Golfing, Tennis and of course great eating. (Trivia note: If you look at a map of Hilton Head, it is shaped like a tennis shoe.)

Charleston is by far my favorite coastal Town in S.C.
So much old history there, old Southern Plantations and architect. Good Golfing there too, shopping and food.

Myrtle Beach is the most popular. It is the most visited by people from my area here and probably has the most to do for a family. It is really a Pigeon Forge with a beach. Personally, I don't care for the tourist trap appeal of it, but that could be because I live in a tourist town.

Myrtle Beach if partying like kids is the desire.

Charleston (or Savannah, but a little further) if a relaxing, be with adults vacation is what you desire.

Hilton Head if a high-end, hang with the snobs weekend is what you are after.

Mark

If they hit the Myrtle Beach scene, I recomend staying at the Ocean Reef aka Myrtle Beach Martinique. (http://www.mbmartinique.com/) We stay there 3-5 times a year on long weekends and such. Nice place on the ocean with lots to do in the area.

Just my 2 cents!!!
