Default Project Dorothy

At long last I finally have interesting things to post about my active project.

Some of you may recall that I posted a trial baloon rendering by Kris Horton of my project for feedback. Based on the feedback, Kris made some really nice changes and we have finally finished the exterior design.

Meanwhile, the fabrication has been underway for about a month. Below are the semi-final renderings. I am expecting to get the final hi-res pictures this evening.

Also, I now have a web site up which will document this project. You can check it out at http://www.CamaroSuperCars.com

In short summary:

Built .060 over 396
FAST XFI
Comp roller cam
AFR 315 CNC port heads
F1-R Pro-Charger
T56
Quadralink
9", 3.70, Truetrac
Gobal west upper and lower control arms
Coil overs all around
DSE mini tubs
18X12 Forgeline SP3Ps with Gunmetal centers - rear
18x8.5 Forgeline SP3Ps - front
Wilwood 13 inch, 6 piston, C5 brakes in front
Wilwood 12 inch, 4 piston brakes with integrated e-brake in rear
DSE Quick Ratio 600 steering gear

See the web site for the entire tech sheet and tons of pictures...

I am pretty excited about this project...

Nice! I like the exhaust. Is the hockeystick stripe a bit different? I like it!!

Yup. Kris completely changed the hockey stick stripe. I really like the big swoop and the heavy head.

Well, we are going as fast as we can but there are still a few parts that are weeks away from arriving and then the custom paint and body work still has to happen. I think I am about 8 weeks from completion.

What is your schedule?

Looks good . My only thing is the hockey stripe, I love the big swoop , but I am not keen on the "check" near the headlights. I am sure it will look good either way, just wanted to throw out my $.02. Can't wait to see it finished .

I thought I would update this with the actual status of the build.

At this point the car has been completely dismantled.

The subframe was removed, media blasted, smoothed, ground, holes welded up and powder coated. You can see the pictures of it in here. Note that there was NO bondo used on this subframe. A filling was done with a tig welder and then it was smoothed with a grinder. The Chilcotes did a bautiful job prepping this for powder coat.

The engine and T56 transmission were mocked up in the car with big block motor mounts and the ATS transmission crossmember. Everything bolted up perfectly but the tunnel did have to be modified to preserve the proper transmission geometry relative to the rear end.

The DSE mini tubs have now been installed. Tom Chilcote did a really clean job of this and even managed to add an extra 1/2" of width on each side in the process.

The DSE Quadralink pockets, cross member and Panhard bar bracket have been installed.

The trunk pan needed to be replaced and this is also done at this point.

Here is a picture of the subframe after it came back from powder coating...

and one more..

Tracy, I love the stripe!!! It gives the car a nice modern and agressive look. I would have though of blacking out the rear panel to match, but I'm not gonna force you to do it. I just think it would look classic and strong. It's looking good so far. Can't wait to see it together.
