Default 1970 Camaro 427ci LS1 Project

It ‘s hard to believe, but our portion of project 1970 Camaro LS1 Swap is complete. The engine will soon be off to another shop where a PTE-88 turbo will be strapped to the front. Here is a brief wrap up and specs on the project.

The Darton MID Sleeved 427 was acquired from Steve at Race Engine Development.

The customer opted to spare no expense and we installed a Callies Race Master 4.000” Forged Crankshaft, Howard Specialties 6.125” Connecting Rods, and Custom Diamond Pistons.

We had the rotating assembly, and windage tray Teflon coated by our good friends at DART Machinery.

After we received all the items back from coating we began the installation process. At this time the customer decided to go for the show car look and have the oil pan, front cover, and rear cover powder coated glossy black. As always Bill at QC Coatings was up to the job, and everything came out excellent

We topped this stout short block with ET Performance 255cc 11 degree cylinder heads, Morel hydraulic lifters, Comp Cams Pro Magnum Rockers, and a ported Edelbrock Carb Style Manifold.

Future plans include Accufab 105mm Elbow, Wilson 105mm throttle body, and Big Stuff 3 Unit.

you take an EFI engine, slap on a carb style manifold and add fuel injection. It will be sweet though.

Big boost? How much psi can the stock manifold take before it becomes a concern?

Looks great, Eric. Thanks for posting.

We went back and forth between a Beck sheet metal intake and this ported Edelbrock carb style. I believe both would work out well in this application. As for adding fuel injection to the carb style manifold. The intake kit came EFI ready including the fuel rails, and hardware.

Wow i never knew my engine already had its own thread on here kwel.
I/We went with the Vic Jr. due to the FACT that the fast 90/90 set up would be a bottle neck in the system and NONE of the sheet metal intakes have shown any increase worth more than what a ported fast would do. (dont believe me ask some of the sheet metal intake makers for some flow charts if they will even admit to having any)
After weeks of research and with great information on ls1tech, the Vic Jr. fitted the bill. Although it is a "carb" style intake , it is set up will bungs and fuel rails from Edelbrock. The position of of the intake flang assures a better distrubition of air into the engine instead of just the forcing more air to the rear cyls. All of this information can be research and verified on many of the ls1 sites , but many ls1tech. Price wasnt an issue as the porting was over 2k on the intake alone, in the end we went with what would work best with the air needed to support the turbo /engine.
A smaller combo (408 w/ stock ported 6.0l heads) recently netted 9xx rwhp . This 427 with the etp 255's should be fired up for the first time at the end of november

its the c5 silver pewter color

And the orginal 70 was traded for a 68 and a builder 70 .
The orginal 70 had the rear frame rails moved in 1 inch, and rules being rules i wount have been able to run in the proper class so i traded it for the 68 and the builder 70. i think i got the best of the deal.
The combo is going in the 68 which should be finished by the end of november. All paint and body work is being done by The Cobra Shop in North Fort Myers Florida.
