Not auto related, but definately horsepower related -

The Lake Rescue Shootout at Lake Of the Ozarks, Missouri was this weekend. The Callan/Mystic team set a new record of 208 mph in a measured mile from a standing start. Envision in your mind the fastest cars that do the Maxton Mile. Now think of a 10,000 lb, 50 foot boat doing it that fast. Pretty wild.

It sounds awesome. The video would be cool.

I always admired the guys who weren't afraid of a rearend full of water.

I know there is equipment to prevent it, but it still is a spooky visual.

My hat is off to them.

The videos aren't ready yet, but here are a couple of pics. The first one some professional guy took. The second one I took in the cockpit while running around before the race.

To put it in perspective, imagine a car like the 1220 RWHP twin turbo Viper that won the Maxton Mile this year, looking out his window and seeing that big thing accelerating just as fast. It's pretty sick.

Bruce, what are the details on that thing? How big are the motors? Props? That's just crazy. I love it.

Hey Scott -
The engines are Lycoming T55L7 turbines. We have them set right around 3,000 hp each. They go through BPM surface drives to a special set of Mercury Lab finished propellers. We tried a bunch of one off custom props, but the Mercs have been the best. Also, a "normal" high performance prop spins at 3500 rpm. Ours spin around 9000. Let me tell you, it's a real trip when a prop blade comes flying off at that rpm. Fuel consumption at idle is about 120 gal/hr. Also, when you fire up the engines, the exhaust temp reaches 600 deg C in about 3 seconds so when we are near a dock, people back up pretty quick.

I have a 5 MB video that, get this, the Missouri Department of Tourism sent us. It's a shot of the 208 run. Not the best quality, but you definately "feel" it. I can send it to you if you have a place to put it.
