I drove an early 80's bright orange Lada for a while in my college years. My father got it from a church for free since they could not get it registered. My dad went to the DMV and the lady told him $375 to get it pink'ed and registered. He tossed the keys on the counter and told her they owned the car. $55 later he walked out the door with a pinkslip and registration.

That car was the biggest steaming pile of putrid monkey turd I have ever driven. I'll take capitalism any day of the week.

At least they keep the spirit on a high level

On the other hand the very newly rich russians have a lot of cool cars.

When I was in USSR in 1985, families had to wait up to 8 years for one of these once it was ordered. (and they were considered fortunite)

I had forgotten what a pos those things were.
