Default saginaw 800 steering box questions

Doing a father son project on a '73 Mustang convertible. Planning an LS1/T56 swap and would like to improve the steering.

I recently did the IROC box swap on my first gen camaro and love it. While doing the research for that swap, I learned that the 71-73 mustangs also used the saginaw 800 steering box. While at the "pick a part" buying something for another project, we ran across another "XH" IROC box and grabbed it thinking we would use it on his mustang…….turns out, while the Mustang uses a saginaw 800 box, the mounting tabs are much different.

So, my question…..can anyone confirm the interchangeability of the saginaw 800 internals?? Can we take the good internals from the IROC box and use it in the mustang box?
