Default Need Advice - Safety Issue

I am looking for some advice on how to proceed to prevent someone else from getting hurt by a design defect. My niece was involved in a near head-on driving a 2008 US manufacturer vehicle. The shoulder harness and airbags worked, but the seat slid up the rails and she broke her femurs and destroyed one knee under the dash. The seat slid forward because the Chinese-built (marked on the component) seat motor was held by two screws that screw into the nylon (or plastic) bottom of the motor assembly, and the screws pulled out releasing the motor, which is all that keeps the seat from moving on and off the front of the rail. Obviously a lawyer would be interested in pursuing the personal damages, but we are more interested in identifying a serious design flaw that could, and may have already, kill somebody. Any of you guys have experience or knowledge that might help us get started? Thanks

Pappy

Don't expect a quick response. I filed when the roof panel blew off my C6 and there was a recall and fix long before they got back to me. Your case may be different since there was a serious injury.
