Solid engine mount question

I currently have polyurethane engine mounts in my car that are about 5 years old. I can fit two fingers at rest between my header and upper control arm mount on pass side and header and steering shaft on the driver side...yet both headers show that they are constantly contacting both the UCA and steering shaft. So the engine is really moving around a lot on these mounts with the type of driving that I'm doing with it.

I'm considering upgrading to solid mounts to combat this but I have one concern. I need to tilt my engine back a good ways to get my shifter stub on my trans out of the tunnel hole before the trans can slide back for removal. I know I can take the shifter off the trans from the top but with my setup this pretty much means complete removal of my center console which is NOT fun.

How much will my engine tilt back if mounted on a typical solid mount?

Mine doesn't have to move super far, I still have room between my distributor cap and firewall with it tilted back...but it does need to move back enough for the tailshaft of the trans to drop about 5-6" or so before it'll be able to slide back.

Also, if one uses solid engine mounts, what trans mount should be used? I currently have a PU mount there as well.

I guess I could just put new PU engine mounts in, these are so loose I was able to take both motor mount bolts completely out with the engine still sitting in place on the mounts. That's a minimum that I'll do but I want to pursue the solid mount ideal also.

You should get plenty of movement with a solid mount fore and aft. At least that was the case with my 69 camaro. Very little side to side once everything is tight.

I wouldn't run a solid mount unless you have no other choice. You feel EVERYTHING.

If you decide on solid motor mounts, the rule I've always heard is to NOT use a solid trans mount with solid motor mounts. The trans needs to be able to move. Using all 3 mounts of the solid type can result in trans mounting pad breakage.

I was of the impression solid mounts can pull around the block in a high power car (distorting the main bearing crank alignment)

I have solid mounts in my 67 Nova and will be changing them out for a limiter strap and standard mounts. The vibration sucks
