Default Ls swap headers 67-69 Camaro.

Hello everyone.

I have a 69 Camaro with a 6.0L. I have hedman husler mid length headers and they are leaking pretty bad. What headers would you recommend? I dont want to swap my motor mounts in order to use the headers and I have the stock steering on a stock subframe. Thanks for your advice and help.

I was looking at speed-engineering headers. They seem very well priced.

Thumbs up

I am using the Street and Performance plates and autokraft oil pan with a set of Stainless Works headers in my stock subframe. No clearance issues at all.

I'M using Street & Performance original placement plates and ARH headers and AutoKraft pan . All fits great but the headers are expensive but fit great and tuck up tight to the floor.

they have to match your motor mounts. If they are the musclerod headers then youll have to pretty much get the same. Or its just a guessing game. I have the same ones on my 69 and they are designed with the motor a little more forward and they are made specifically to clear the ps on driver side. I want some longtubes, but i will have to get the musclerod ones and no others

Yup. Just looked. I do have BRP motor mounts. Well at least they are a little cheaper than others. Looks like I have to use either mid lengths or use THEIR long tubes.

Why not just figure out why yours are leaking...

Best gaskets I ever used are EARLS - with an aluminum frame that hold graphite replaceable inserts.

I've also seen headers where I've had to cut the flange because one tube was welded up with stresses in it and it just wouldn't seal. Cut that flange and make it separate and never had another problem with 'em (that was on a buddies Mopar 440 motor).

Do a search for Earls Pressure Master header gaskets (or similar as their are other manufacturers)... Summit Racing sells 'em... and I'm sure there are others.

Also - it might make a difference with the bolts you're using and the torque applied. NEVER torque a steel bolt into an aluminum head DRY !! You'll gall the threads and you won't really get the proper torque on the bolt. I always put Anti-Seize lube on the bolts (and even a dab on spark plug threads). I use PERCY'S VIBE-LOCK bolts because they're easy to use and once locked into place - they stay put. They're expensive - as are the gaskets... but sometimes expensive "isn't" when the stuff WORKS.

I believe its leaking at the collector. Ive taken the car to a local exhaust shop and they cant find a leak. however when I am driving its obvious its leaking under the car. Ive loosened the collector and added RTV and the leak is still there. Ive contacted Hedman and told me to use the RTV. Still ticking. I have added copper gaskets already. Its just leaking from below.

This might sound strange, but I have heard that you can hook a strong vaccuum cleaner to the tail pipe to create a vaccum, and then use something like an insence stick to create a little smoke to see where it gets drawn in.

I don't care that you're "hearing" it --- if it's leaking there will be a carbon trailer... and that should be SEEN. If it's up top of the system - you'll need a light and a mirror.... If the leak is big enough to be heard - the carbon trail will be big enough to be seen... and it might not be the header collector gasket at all... it could be anywhere that is welded -- and depending on age and scraping etc - it could be somewhere else along the pipe.
