On the way home from our honeymoon at Chevell-abration, my wife told me she wanted an early Chevelle wagon.
She started searching online, and found this one. We found someone local to look at it and give us his opinion of the car, and it sounded just like what we wanted.
On thursday we made a banzai run down to Kearney Nebraska to pick up her new '66 Malibu station wagon.
The body was pretty solid, and the little rust in the quarters was cut out and fixed correctly. The floors have some holes, and the spare tire well is rotted out, but the frame, braces, jambs, doors, and all the structure is very solid. The paint is shiny and pretty straight, but by no means is it a show-winning paint job. It is 2-toned turquoise and green. The lower (turquoise) is the original color, and the dark green is also a '66 chevelle color. There are some graphics on the quarters that will be removed when I have time to do a little body & paint work. I bought it without those wheels, so I need to get a set of ralleys for it now.
The interior has new upholstery and bucket seats. It needs some TLC, and I'm looking for seatbelts for it, but for the most part, it's very presentable, and comfortable.
The engine is a 454. I'm not sure what heads it has (probably peanut-port) but it has a cast iron intake with a quadra-jet. It runs great, and got 14 mpg on the way home.
It also has a powerglide that needs work, but I'll swap in a good 700R-4 I have. It's a 10-bolt, 3.08 open but I've got a posi rear I can stick in when I upgrade to a 12-bolt in my '69. I will also do 4 wheel discs next winter.
We drove it home 500 miles, and it drove great, but there's a short in the taillights somewhere, and it blew the fuse. A Team Chevelle member from that area helped work on the taillights but we never found the short, and it blew the fuse right away. We did discover a ground-issue that we suspected was the problem, but something still shorted it somewhere.
This car won't really be "pro touring" but it will just be a nice cruiser, and the brakes & suspension will be upgraded to make it a little easier to drive.

In highschool a buddy of mine had one of those. As he was the oldest, and first with a car/license we were on a mission. Not having a ton of $$ and wanting a money ride a bunch of us set out to make it cool. Borrowed a spray gun and at 5am (no wind and all) in his driveway painted EVERYTHING black. We took the trim off, and did a half azz masking job but that was about it. Came out looking 100x better than we ever imagined it would. Put a set of 18" IROK wheels on it, cut the springs, and we were rollin.
