Default 65 Mustang MGW shifter on a T5

I really want to use a MGW shifter on my T5 that I am putting in my 65 fastback, but I am concerned about the length of the stick that comes on the MGW.

I plan on hiding the shifter under the boot, to keep that factory look inside, but I don't want to have to reach forward to hit all of my shifts. That so far is my only concern with this thing. Anyone have any info on how these things workout in early model cars? Doesn't have to be a Mustang, pretty much any old car.

Thanks!
