Default Where to get CA black plates made?

Does anyone know of a company that can make the black CA license plates? I want my current modern plate redone in the black 68 style. Or is it easier to buy some on Ebay and jusr re-register my car with those ones?

Thanks

No you cannot buy them at the DMV.

I was on the wait list for that legacy program.... not sure that will actually play out. Does anyone trust the DMV?

If you want to do it now, you need to buy some unrestored or restored black plates that are "clear" with the DMV and they will let you reappropriate them.

You also need to buy a year correct sticker to put on it. It's a

I just did this last year. It all comes down to how much you want to spend for nice plates, or junk plates, and either restore them yourself or have it done.

I have personally met the person who is in charge of the legacy plate program. It will happen, as long as they get the pre-orders. If we all have a 'gonna do' attitude it will never happen.

I'm not throwing stones, my car still has white plates and the application for my black plates is here on my desk...

But that is not the person who you have deal with at a local DMV.

And that is probably why subconsciously you have not filled out that application and gone down to your local DMV.

Haha! No, you're right. However, all you do is mail it in with a check and then the mail genies bring the plate. It's not like they press the plate for you on the spot at your local purgatory, I mean DMV. They have the guys up in Folsom to do that.

I'm dragging my feet because I'm trying to decide whether I want a personalized plate or not. I used to think they were cool, then I thought they were corny, now I kinda want one again.

If you check out the DMV's facebook page they in the past have listed the amounts sold on the pre sale. I believe the requirement was 7500 for each era plate.

Last I checked the black and yellow were the only ones to exceed the requirement at something like 12-13k sold.

If I remember correct they will start making them in May.

what is a year correct sticker and where do I get one of those? I thought about going the DMV route but they are dragging their feet on that.
