Default rambler update 6/17

yes guys im actually working on it again

WOW.... FEELS GOOD TO BE MAKING PROGRESS...again

just finished the 06 power tour last sunday...i saw no rambler americans...imagine that.....
im fired back up on the project.....
two things im doing this weekend
making mounts for the new camaro 67-8 gas tank and straps...just have to make hangers for the straps to hinge from in front of the tank and weld tabs with a nuts off of the floor in the back so it will fasten just like a camaro....
im also using sheet steel to cover the original firewall..it has too much stamped detail in it for me ......so its going to be slick ...just finished cutting an tacking it on....

so yes it been a while but im back on this thing steady now....
baby is due first week in october so i gotta get real busy ...

ill keep posting update pics ....often

Default more progress

tonight 6/21

i worked to get the new 67-8 gas tank under the trunk floor.
REASON FOR DOING THIS......
the original was small and offset to the right side the muffler went next to it on the left under the trunk floor..the filler neck was a stub that came up through the floor in the center and a rubber hose connected it to a metal pipe that came out the center of the tail panel .
(i didnt want a fuel cell taking up trunk space )..so i thought about what cars had this same style and figured out 67-8 camaro tanks have the same gas filler style...i found the measurements ..based on that i ordered one and also purchased new camaro straps...

IT WORKS ...IT WORKS....

....only had to remove the original exhaust hanger bracket on the left inner frame rail..drilled a couple of spot welds and bang..its off....
stuck the tank under the floor used a ratchet strap to hold it up.....SEE PIC
it fits great ....im going to make two L shaped mounts for the front of the straps to mount and a tab to the inner tail panel with a nut welded to it for the back....................ok maybe its too much info... but thats the latest

YES!! You have not given up. I haven't seen the updates you talked about in the beginning so I thought maybe you stoped again. Your car is going to be awesome. I love cars that you dont see very often. Congrats on figuring out the tank!
