looking for some home ideas

I have 2 more years and I can sell this house, I am going to remodel it so I can get the $$ to buy me and the wife a huge shop and put an apartment in it , a house does us no good ! we need shop space, she does upholstery and I do the columns, my shop in the back is getting smaller by the day for me and I need more space, the wood on the front is original from '86 and when I replace the windows I want to put new wood on the front, how do you guys think this log siding would look finished in natural with clear ? ya aint gonna hurt my feelings if you say no so please give me a real honest opinion as I am going to sell it and it has to look great for the next person , I have had it for almost 10 years and want something else !! I plan on leaving the rock as it matches the fireplace

Ahhem... Just clearing my throat...did you say ice as in your complaining that Florida had some crap weather. We had the coldest winter in 30 yrs here...what ever you had would have been like a vacation for us..lol and yeah I think that the house would look good with the siding a lighter color

Well, I always love the log/cedar siding, but to make a good judgment I gotta ask what color is the roof? It looks to be dark under the step up

the roof is a dark brown metal, that was one reason I bought it , a lifetime roof basicly, I am tossing around painting all of it light tan colors and replacing the lower panels, it has to be lighter it is just to dark, no, no complaints about the weather here, I am only going to move maybe 8-10 miles away from where I am now, I know of 2 different buildings that can be bought only just a few miles from here

Well if it's dark Brown roof, then the siding definitely needs to be a light color. But if you're going to change the roof color then a really light colored log wouldn't look as good as a medium colored log. So, what's it gonna be? LoL!

The best advice I can give you is do what everyone likes. meaning neutral colors. don't do what you like. your selling to the masses, not making something for you. thats the number 1 rule in real estate. Curb appeal. plant some shrubs and bushes. you know the stuff women like. gotta make it warm looking. if the wife likes the the husband has no choice. or else

that's why I posted this here, you guys opinion means a lot as I am not building it for myself, going to sell so each thought from anyone here will help a lot , I am thinking on painting it all the lighter tans and neutral colors, the shop in the back has the same lap siding on it as the front of the house, I am going to take it off and replace it with the same stuff on the sides of the shop so I will have a good selection of good lap siding to use and replace the lower boards that are bad on the front of the house, I guess this is going to be my "house build thread " ? I will post up a few more pics tomorrow , the place will most likely be sold to a car guy and kinda needs to stay with the right look , I have location location location as everyone says, I am 2 miles south of nas whiting field on 1.3 acres and the house is 1600 sq ft of living with a 1400 sq ft shop in the rear, when I bought the house I got bent over but it all worked out in the end ( very long story) so I have 2 years to make it count now !!

Siding is listed as a Cabot Semi-Solid Stain in Spanish Moss. Garage doors are listed as Sherwin Williams Garden Gate (SW6167) and the trim is listed as Sherwin Willimas Saw Dust (SW6158).

you can use a lighter color - as in the garage green tone to accent the railing cap and or the 2" exposed roof line (where gutters would be) - but not the whole fascia, just a portion of it.

There is a transparent paint that emulates the stain look you can use to get that modeled look.

I like those colors, but I think I would like something lighter, the front has that inset porch and it looks so dark because of the dark colors, maybe some type of desert color with a white trim, I am not sure if I will be able to get windows in the bronze in the sizes I need, the back door is a slider and getting replaced next week with a french door I just got, I had to buy a white door , only one I could find to fit the opening. do you have any pics of lighter shades of tan ? I am going to be starting on the shop very soon and its the biggest part to paint, most of the house is brick and very little painting. thanks for your help, Jim
