I had heard that Ford was working on a Flat 8 engine for this or a future Mustang model. Is any of that true?

IIRC at least 1 Ford engineer was quoted as saying the 2015 5.0 GT output will be higher than the 2014's.

Last I knew, speculation for the GT350 is in the 500 fwhp range, NA, but me personally, I haven't heard of the flat 8 engine.

EDIT: OK, today I did see the flat crank speculation.

LOVE IT!!!
Not sure if the pic is of the GT500 or the GT350.
The GT350 will have about 500 or more and the GT500 is going to be top dog. That's what I hear anyways. "If" they release the GT500, which I hope they do, it's the 5.8 supercharged.
I think Ford is looking to upstage Dodge with their Hellcat. I hope so. Let the new school muscle car wars commence.

After reading the usual boards, it sounds like the GT500 isn't gonna make the party anymore at some point. It makes sense. Ford wants to make a car for the world, Dodge wants to make a car that sets a couple records that don't really matter. They matter to us, but that's a tiny demographic. Ford has the better sell plan. Based on CAFE standards and stricter policies all around, Ford could make a ton of 500HP GT350s instead of a few thousand 1000 HP Shelbys that nobody will drive.

I think we are looking at two different cars joining the party IMHO the GT350R and the GT500.

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...py-photos-news

Notice the 350R has no bulging hood (very pronounced IMO when the you see the GT500 pic in full size) or the same heat extractor vents compared to the supposed GT500 spy pic (in CA from June). Then you have the same car in a parking lot and spied in Dearborn with a distinct supercharger whine. That is no flat plane crank 5.0 which is supposed to be in the GT350. Anyhow that is my opinion but the evidence certainly suggests it. Ford wants the buzz and brand recognition just like the 5.8L Trinity motor provided. SVT's history has been always trying to one up the other guy. Love the modern HP wars though...good stuff.

I had read the SC 5.8 was not going to make the cut for the '16+ GT500. I hope that's not the case.

You got it brother. I do believe that these are two different cars as well. The GT350 and the GT500.
I hope the trinity motor isn't dead.
