Default Stalling issues

I have been having stalling issues with my 68 Camaro. It has been my daily driver for about the last 10 years and has been pretty much in the same configuration. It is a 327 powerglide car. HEI flame thrower, edelbrock 1406 (600) The car seems to be runnning better than ever besides the stalling issue I'm having.

The problem: The car will only stall when it is at or very close to close to idle, warm, and in gear. So if I'm coming to a stop or just sitting in traffic. It gets worse as it gets warmer. As soon as you put it in gear it will stall unless you give it a little throttle, but it will still stall if you only raise the idle speed. When it stalls, it acts just like switch was flipped. If I put the transmisison in neutral, the car will not stall.

Things I've done: Replaced spark plugs, cap, rotor, swapped with another 1406 carb, clean air cleaner, new fuel pump, cleaned fuel filter

Enigne: intital timing 8 degrees, 20-24 degrees with vacuum advance on manifold vacuum
21 in Hg vacuum at idle

I'm not really sure what the problem could be. I've been driving it around in this configuration for close to 10 years. Any help would be much appreciated. You know how you can get to your wits end with problems like these. Thank you.

I'm more of a stick-shift kinda guy, but could it possibly be the torque converter going? Would make sense if it does it in gear...

"like a switch was flipped"

......is there a safety switch on the auto linkage that could be bad/loose/out of adjustment?

pull your dist cap off and look at the pick up coil and module. see if the pick up looks overheated, oiled up and check the connector. could be a module issue too.

Do you still have your old yellow wire that ran to the coil from the R terminal on the starter? I had a car where they added an HEI but forgot to terminate that wire. It was grounding out on the bell housing on hard acceleration.

Thanks for all the replies. I replaced the HEI dizzy with a new one and it looks like the problem is solved. Thanks again guys. Love this site.
