Problem........solution!?

I have this cute little 125 lb. Dane named Tucker (currently with an F) who had become obsessed (6-7 times in 2 months) with digging in one spot of our front entry plant bed. I've talked to him nicely, I've set him up and popped him with the "training" collar, walked him to the scene of the crime and verbally scolded him which is usually very effective..........but there is something with this spot! It's a 3' deep planter filled with pure loam, ideal diggin material.

Here's the mutt and his backhoe length legs.


He left the spot alone for a while, but twice in the last few days he's back at it. This hole will easily accept a basketball with room on top for cream, but the regulation football was convenient.



I've also tried red pepper but he likes spicy food so it had no impact.

Hopefully this is a solution...........I did 1/4 turn the sheet after the picture to minimize snagging a nail.

Probably a little sewer gas seeping through the soil, he smells the nutrient's in it and thinks its food. Sorry Siegster, no more sh$ting in the house for you and the fam. Sux. My tucker is sitting next to me right now as i type snoring like a mofo. He is one fat and lazy and lovable white english lab (and smelly)....i call hime the "rare white pig of livermore".

Will work.... Kind of! I'd just hook up an electric fence around it. My lab would get into different areas and such around the house, until I hooked up a hot wire around the "no no" places. Cured that!! LOL! Heck, I even had to hook up my car trailer, BBQ grill and satellite wires because she kept on chewing them up/off! Only took a couple hits!

No sewer, fresh 3/4- under the loam. He's got "open range" in the back to dig........BUT NOoooooo.

You and me both......some say he'll dig to one side. I'm hoping he gets the message that I don't want him digging there. He might experience the shock collar on full boost for the first time.

It's funny as he's basically a role model dog with this exception. Never has damaged any property other the the MCL in my right knee.

Agreed on doubts about the expanded steel. If he rips out a claw on it, you're going to have an expensive vet trip. If you want a barrier, I'd use plywood and then soak it in one of the products that's supposed to keep dogs from digging.
