Default New standing mile record.. 278.2 mph

So I was at the Texas Mile this weekend cheering on my buddy that owns the Ford GT that had the record last year. The previous record was 267. They made a pass this morning and went 278.2! Crazy huh?

Assuming similar atmospheric conditions......11 mph's is really raising the bar on the competition!

Car is a 2006 GT, the motor is a built John Mihovetz Accufab engine now on Methanol. All I can say it makes around 2300 hp and they ran 278.2 at about 2000...

That is amazing. If you watch the video you can hear a little wheel spin in almost every gear with that much hp. Just on the edge of traction to get the most forward bit. The seat of the pants feel must be like a fighter jet.

Midway into 4th gear it sounds like it started to hook up. Car could use more aero downforce.

My guess is here's why they would rather ignore the wheelspin….

The rear wing works in conjunction with the rest of the body, the front splitter and the rear diffuser to produce downforce. This is the effect the air has on the moving vehicle. It also has the effect of causing drag. Downforce is helpful as this increases the effective load onto the tyres giving a greater traction ability (the tyres’ ability to create grip increases with the load or weight applied).
Drag is basically how resistant the vehicle is to penetrating the air, and is a function of many different fac- tors, including frontal area. Increasing the wing angle to give more downforce will increase the frontal area of the vehicle and consequently increase the drag level, reducing the top speed.
