Default Dehumidifier

Anybody using one in the garage to keep the rust down? I'm about to blast the body for my car and not priming for a long time. Any thoughts? Is there something to spray on the body to help from rusting?

I'm on the downside of a project that started as a primered shell. It had been blasted and coated in a self-etching primer when I got the shell. Between the time it was blasted and when I sent it to the body shop after fab was about 5 years. There was zero issue with surface rust on the areas that had primer and anywhere I needed to modify or weld the self etching primer ground off without trouble.

I would highly recommend it if you are going to blast the car. I'm sure the body knowledgable guys here can recommend a product. Perhaps even something you could spray yourself with a cheap spray gun depending on your local legalities and situation.

Default Dehumidifier

It would take one hell of a dehumidifier to take all the humidity out of the air to keep it from rusting--- I dont think it could be done unless you have a air tight space. youbetter count on a lot of rust if you leave it a while--- or coat it.

Coat all bare metal with epoxy primer. As already stated, you will not be able to get rid of the humidity. You will be fine if you coat everything in epoxy primer directly after any stripping. I live in a relatively high humid area, such as you do and never have had a problem with any bare metal rusting if I got it coated soon after stripping it.

Dehumidifier defiantly makes a big difference, but you need to get a primer sealer on it ASAP.

I've always ran one in my garage.. seems like concrete loves to act like a sponge for moisture.. sometimes I empty a bucket of water every other day during certain conditions. It does help.

Got a picture of yours? Look for some today. Just to help out. I'm sure I will need to prime this thing quickly.

if you have the $$ and are serious about this then get a Santa Fe Sani Dry.
Nothing in the market compares...

I paid 1500.00 for mine.. I maintain under 50% RH in 2500 square feet.. in the North east...

Not just any epoxy primer --- you want an ETCHING epoxy primer on bare metal.... or a wash sealer.

But what you REALLY need to understand is that you must know what you're going to finally paint the car with --- and everything from the bare metal needs to be compatible with THAT paint choice. This isn't where you just go all random and buy whatever someone else says they use.... Paints today are SYSTEMS.... and need to be treated as such.

Do your homework first -- make certain you understand your paint from bottom to top.... or you'll end up with a compatibility issue.
