Default Newest Car Craft

Did anyone else see the slame on Mark Stielow built '64 Chevelle in the latest Car Craft? I don't have the issue with me, so I can't quote it exactly, but it stated something like "possibly the worst project name for a car of all time, Malitude. Recently on ebay, auction went for $64k, reserve not met..."

It's hard to find as it's printed vertically.

Not sure why that was in there, .

After the "rebirth" of Car Craft, that magazine has really gone downhill. I like the new Hot Rod, Primedia has done a nice job with it... but it's too bad about Car Craft because in today's market, the magazines are REALLY hurting. As a whole, advertising and circulation percentages have fallen double digits in the past two years.

Somebody from Primedia needs to go pick up an issue of Racer X. It's a motocross lifestyle magazine and I think is the best magazine out there period. I'd love to see an automotive magazine go that direction. I want tech articles, I want features, I want new products... but I also want interviews, human interest stories and stuff from behind the scenes. Stuff like that new motor that Crower has invented and his life story, a review of the movie 'World's Fastest Indian', etc, etc.

So there you have it, I bitched about Car Craft but I also offered constructive criticism.

There's another good mag that was started called C16 magazine. I know when I say here that it's an import magazine people will say yuck BUT - check it out. It IS a lifestyle magazine and is very well done. It's being redone by another publisher I think now and haven't picked up the latest. But when you're at the mag rack, I know it may burn your fingers a little but pick up an issue of Import Tuner magazine or Super Street magazine. They make these japanese cars a CULTURE. That's why the youth is hot for that stuff. It's fresh, high tech, exciting and it goes beyond just the car. There's a good reason that 30% of the tuner crowd is women, a first in any car culture ever! Why can't we take from this stuff and apply it to our magazines and car shows and make a Muscle Car Lifestyle??!!!! It shouldn't just be about the cars, a lot of it would be but it's also about clothes, aceessories, it's about the people, etc. A couple hot rod mags also come to mind like Ol' Skool Rodz and Car Kulture Deluxe. There's a couple magazines going in the lifestyle direction.

Just a thought.

John

Default Racer X

Scott,

I agree 100% about Racer X. My brother writes and shoots a ton of pictures for that magazine. While this reeks of nepitism, It is quite possibly one of the best put together magazines on the market.

Freiberger has been a god send for Hot Rod, and I loved his editorial style for Car Craft, in fact, the reason I subscribed years ago. This knucklehead who writes for them now is a joke.

Darren

While it hasn't been updated in a while, for you motorcross guys.

Car Craft has been very weak for sometime IMO. I cancelled my subscription over a year ago and haven't missed it yet. Now I only get 7 other magazines a month

I haven't seen it yet but I think it is pretty funny. My nickname for it has always been the Tuna Boat.

Did you finally sell it Charley? I saw a "misfire" for sale post on PT.com, I think. It was posted for sale and then almost immediately deleted. This was after the second ebay auction.
