Mil-spec connector help please

I am working on routing the LS3 wiring harness through the firewall on my 67 Nova. I am looking at Deutsch mil-spec connectors. Does anyone know which connectors I might need? There are so many to choose from. Part numbers would be a big help too. Thanks.

Check out http://www.iimuchfabrication.com/. John has these as a kit. I used one for my Accel setup and it has worked great. I had to pull my engine out 3 times and thank goodness I had this setup to make disconnecting a breeze.

I talked to John yesterday about his connectors. Do you have any pics of yours installed? I'm worried these might be too large.

These things are crazy difficult to track down what you want exactly. We used to use on big connector. But for instance the LSA engine has 78 wires I think. That is a massive connector. So we have begun using 4 20 pin connectors. The connectors are easy its all the accessories that make the install cleaner. The front and back shells really make the install that much cleaner but not alot of people sell them. Then do you want straight or 90 degree back shells. I have thought about creating a short kit like John as apparently done to just sell the connectors we stock. I got mine through an aviation company in Nevada. They have millions of part numbers.

I will see what I can come up with. To get you some more info.

After all the work I have put in to find these that we use. I'm a lot more likely to sell them through my shop then just give out the part numbers. You may or may not be surprised how hard it is to just get these part numbers.

The variables on each of these connecters is crazy. Plus the expensive tool you will have to buy in order to assemble the pin connectors.

seeing how I am control of 130,000 different a/c parts I could have probably cut the time down for you!

It has more to do with quantity then the actual product. When I'm calling to order just a small number of these at a time. Say less then 20, they have much bigger fish to fry then deal with me. The guy buying 1000's of these for aircraft are the guys they want to talk to. Not some stupid hot rod builder.

So here is what I have.

I like the 26 and 18 pin connectors. Not too big and not some huge bundle of wires on the firewall all coming out of one plug. I also like the back shells and it gives the connecters some stability and looks good.





From left to right you have -
- a 90 degree back shell used on the firewall side to keep the wires close to the firewall.
- 26 pin plug
-26 pin receptacle
- straight back shell

No you can interchange the backshells depending on you particular layout.

You can get each complete assembly in 18 or 26 pin for right about 100 bucks each. They will be on our website soon.

I spec out connectors at work for a living. Sometimes I can spend 8+ hours on one connector. Then it turns out the connector is made to order in Switzerland and has a 16 week lead time. My customer does not want to use a huge off the self AMP connector from McMaster or Digikey, but they want their machine in 3 weeks. I end up making cables twice for 4 times the cost.

Trick connectors are sweet if you have the volume and can wait for special order items. Crimping tools can add up quick too. Basic Molex = $50, Nice Molex = $200-500, Special Lemo = $600+

I don't blame anyone for not giving out p/n's.
