Default Cicada Killer Wasp

A couple of these things were in my garage when I went out there today to pull in the grille. Yikes these things are big.

Yeoza, how did you kill it and keep it intact? Or did you just happen to find one napping next to a quarter...

We have had a few of those flying around. Find their hole in the ground, then wait till sunset (they go in the hole at dusk) and dump a quart of gasoline in the hole. Don't light it or anything. The fumes will kill them. They say their burrows can be 4' deep. Also interesting is the males cannot sting only females.

They are solitary wasps. For the most part, they have no interest in you, and will not bother you. They hunt cicada, sting them to stun them, then bury the cicada with an egg. When the egg hatches, it feeds on the stunned cicada.

Shiny Side Up!
