AN Fuel line & Vapor weeping

So I just hit a milestone in my build and was able to fire up the engine for the first time, as great as it was I quickly realized something was up with the car when the next day the garage smelled of fuel. I traced it back to the fuel line used in 90% of the fuel system Aeroquips Startlite line hose. It has a AQP inner liner and cloth Kevlar fire resistant outer. So now im looking for an alternative. I would use a PTFE lined SS braided hose but I don’t want SS outer braid, and typically the bend radius is way too big for the space constraints im working under. From the research I have done so far it looks like about another 2500-3000$ investment to have every line on the car made out of Goodridge 910 hose with crimp on ends, or an XRP equivalent with convoluted PTFE inner liner. Has anyone else been down this same road, or had similar experiences with the Startlite hose from Aeroquip? Not only do I have a big pile of junk on the car none of the hose options I believe I have will use any of my vast inventory of hose ends for the Startlite hose just every direction seems a waste of money.

Yes very common with most aftermarket hoses I've found out, not sure which don't smell bad. My next build I'm going with all hardlines. Maybe someone else will chime in with lines that don't smell.

I went with the PTFE hose from Pegasus Racing. It has a black-braided outside cover. It is not cheap and you must use their hose ends but it meets all your other requirements. Good luck.

TechAFX.com has the solution for you. We are using them on a project. Killer lines. Tell Will or Larry I sent you. They have a Video on the site explaining the technology.

As others have said go with PTFE teflon hose and proper fittings and be done with it

I was just about to do my whole fuel lines with the rubber internal/stainless braided outer hose. Are you guys saying that it will smell like gas if I use that hose? Argggg. Good thing I found this thread.

Yes. I recommend hard lining fuel systems as much as possible for this and other reasons.

I went with regular steel lines all down the frame and Areoquip #FCU0620 black line (ptfe) for all the flex lines. Areoquip line is very easy to use.

FCU0620 is Startlite Hose, the same stuff I used.


I think im just going to switch over the Brown&Miller Hose for the fuel system.

BMRS has the best stuff you can buy thats why everyone in nascar uses it every thing is crimped and pressure tested its my first choice for hoses
