Default Couple questions

Hello Everybody,

I have a couple questions I would like to get your opinions on, here we go.

1) Anyone used this website for buying any parts they seem to have good prices, www.anfittingsdirect.com

2) What size wall thickness is being used for stainless exhust systems??

I am just doing some preplanning and general shopping for parts and etc.. I have a pretty good grasp on all my big ticket items now researching the little items that I see costing way more than you ever expect!! LOL

Ahh one last question, anyone know or heard much about the new version of GM's LS3 crate engine the LS376/525?? Looking into it versus the MAST LS3, I know the Mast is right about 600hp vs the GM at 525 but the Mast runs about 13 or 14,000 range vs 7500 for the new GM.

I used their fittings and teflon hose and it went together easily with no leaks. Quick shipping too.

Almost half the price saved for a measly 75 hp? I'd say that is a no brainer, unless you got it like that. It would be GM all the way for me baby.

Thanks Don, they look like quality fittings.

It's a return on investment quandry IMO. If your primary goal (pleasure) is tracking the car then the 75 hp will be appreciated, on the street it may just get you in (more) trouble, but you'll definitely have an edge in most bench-racing circles.

That was my first thought! Am I going to really notice that 75hp differance, I am not the serious racer the car is mostly going to be a cruiser and sometimes track and autocross for fun nothing serious.

That is a rather large price difference for not much more power..

I am all for spending the money where needed, but also getting my bang for my Buck.

But you are building one killer car

You'd notice the hp mostly on faster race tracks. For autoX I'd take a hard look at the torque spec comparison. I feel most people place too much emphasis on the big hp # when the torque curve is realistically where majority spend most of their driving time. The transitional point is where the torque curve leads up and intersects the hp curve on the dyno chart. Think about going hard on the brakes into the corner then driving off the apex, what rpm will you be at and how much grunt off the corner do you want? The tighter the course the more emphasis on torque. Tire size and compound and trans and final drive gear ratio's all factor into the equation too.

Take a small displacement 2 stroke motor as an extreme example of controllable power out of a corner: At the intersecting point you have relatively low torque curve and a steep hp curve which can make it tough to maintain traction driving off the corner if you're in the proper rpm range, if you're too low in the range you've got an absolute dog driving off the corner.

I'm far from a pro but that's the process I apply in my evaluation process.

The GM crate engine looks to be a great deal if the torque curve and quantity compare.

Hey thanks for the thoughts on my project, I have your same feelings on spending the money on the needed quality parts but yet getting best bang for the buck!!

So the 525 is an LS3 with an ASA cam and slightly better valvesprings?

Lets be honest, 525hp is more than most of us are able to drive 110% out of. Those cast manifolds must suck a few ponies too.

IIRC the ASA is under .600 lift so it's going to be durable, with GM back-up warranty.

So who has bought a LS3 430 and thrown a cam in it and saved a bundle?
