Default Our latest project…Introducing Jacob!

So I’ve been meaning to post about us being pregnant with our first child for a while now. Well, now I get to post about our newborn son Jacob! On Thursday morning I was up around 5am getting ready to head to a work meeting 4 hours away. Beth woke up to her water breaking around 5:15. We weren’t initially sure that’s what it really was. There was a blizzard forecasted for the day so I figured Beth was just worrying and didn’t want me to leave in this weather. We did a little searching on the internet before we called the hospital. They told us to come in to have things checked out. They said it was no rush as long as we could feel him moving around yet. He was kicking a little yet so Beth took a shower while I gathered up our “it’s go time” bag. By the time we dropped our dog off at the boarder we got to the hospital, through admissions/paperwork, and hooked up to some monitors it was 9am. We didn't realize she was actually in labor until we asked what the printouts were tracking. It was contractions and they were only 3-4 min apart. They checked and she was dilated to 4cm already as well. I guess Beth wasn't just over-worrying about me driving.

Jacob was born Feb 23rd at 3:45pm weighing 5lbs 3oz. Beth was at 34 weeks 3 days so he will be in the NICU for a while. He has had no major issues so far with being 5 ˝ weeks early and Beth is recovering extremely well. We truly have been blessed.

Here are a couple pics of our little dude.

Everyone says he looks like me. He definitely doesn’t have my procrastination gene though! He's definitely more like Beth being “ready” way ahead of time.

Yesterday he took his first bottle feedings like a champ. He did not have any problems coordinating drinking and resting/breathing. I’ve changed a few diapers and we gave him his first bath as well. The main things he needs to do before he can come home is continue feeding well and put on some weight. He could be here anywhere from 7 days to a few weeks yet. It’s too early to know yet.

This has been a crazy/amazing experience. We’ll have a tough time figuring out a schedule since the hospital is around an hour from our home. It’s going to be tough when we have to leave our little man.

Congrats Ed!!!!!!

I'm really happy for you and your wife. It's an amazing thing to see and be a part of. Makes any grown man cry like a girl too. LOL..

Enjoy each and every day. Even the late nights, lack of sleep. My son just turned 8 and i have no idea where the time went. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world though. He's the best thing to ever happen in my life.
You're in for a great time. .

Congrats Ed!. My sister had her first child back at the end of November and her experience was a lot like your wife's. She was in no rush to get to the hospital and was in very little pain. Then like an hour later he son Christopher pops out. Funny thing is my sister is petite.

Thanks guys! Yes, we are trying to cherish every moment we can with him. It's funny how even changing diapers is almost a joy. I find myself cheering him on when he has a big #2.

We ran home last night to pick up some things and try to get a good night sleep in our own bed. It was tough leaving town. We packed enough for a most of the week and are back up with him. Hoping to spend as much time as possible bonding.

He had a bit of a step backwards yesterday with bottle feedings but is right back on track today. They doubled his feed amount and he has been drinking them down quickly. They are still tubing a good portion so he doesn't get burned out on the bottle. He is making progress and Beth is still doing good recovering as well.
