Default Old or New?

Hello everyone! I am looking for your opinion on this as I cannot make a decision. I have a 70 Nova, Thinking about doing a full build on it. I am also wanting a Z06/ZR1 very, very badly. The Nova will cost as much or more than either of the Vettes(new or used). I owned a Z06 a couple of years ago and loved it! I just cannot get the old cars out of my blood!

There are alot of good points and bad for each car. With my work schedule, I'm afraid I will not get much use out of the Nova but could use the Vette more often. It would take a while to save enough money to do the Nova and I would have to have a shop build it because I do not have the tools or ability to build it. I really wish I could do it myself but I know I do not have the abulity and want it to be a great car when done(if I do it)

So, If you were in my position, what would you do? Please vote and give your reasoning for the choice.

THANK YOU!!

Michael

Just went through the same delemma.....I figure you can always go buy a new car. Old muscle has been making me horny since childhood. I went with the old car build. Just dropped off my 1981 Firebird at Speedtech for a full PT build. The new muscle will always be there down the road if and when you want it. My .02

Good luck on your decision...

Z06, you can throw 5x the money at a Nova and still not have a better all around car that can cruise in comfort all day with the A/C cranked, then take to the road course and properly thrash. The current Corvette is probably the best all around performance car you can buy from a price/performance/reliability proposition.

If you can consider a ZR1 then how about a Z06 for now while you build the Nova?

I voted for the Vette option. Since you can't build it yourself (the Nova) and you have to save up the money. Buying the Vette - you'll know your exact cost... have it now... and have a car you can use daily if you want to. Sorta like having your cake and eating it too.

The NOVA can always be built... when you have more time and money.

Just from your post sounds like the Vette is the way to go but I voted for both. How far along and what kind of shape is the Nova at this point?

If you want a decent driving Nova to drive right away pick up a set of aftermarket upper control arms, sway bars front and rear, brakes, tires and wheels. All of these items can be bought for cheap if you wait around and find deals and I bet youd be under $5000 into the Nova at this point.

Here is what the Nova looks like now. I am not sure I would keep the air ride, if I do, I would change it to the ride tech system. I would also change the wheels. It has a TCI 4 link and has been mini tubbed. 4 wheel disc brakes too.
It would need a complete interior and paint as well as possibly changing to a LS motor and 6 speed. It now has a 383 with a turbo 350 trans.

I really appreciate everyone giving their opinions! I really hope more will chime in and give theirs as well. I need all the help I can get!!

You are further along then I thought with the Nova. Sweet looking car!!

I still say both if you can. If you cant you can't, like Greg said, buy the Vette and piece the Nova together.
