I looked into getting a composite traverse mounted mono-leaf.
Some of the issues I found were:
- One off custom composite springs are prohibitively expensive
- Using the factory one on the 'vette was not an option -- my project is just not that wide
- Tuning to the specifics of the vehicle would be a challenge
Not saying that it cannot be done and the way the 'vette does it is really the right way of doing a leaf spring (i.e. no axle wrap as the spring is used just as a spring, the spring is not to locate the axle, etc.) and I would assert a weight savings over even coil overs.
